Thats not just the top, thats the whole desk! Mounted to thin strips on the walls, and has two legs screwed to the ends. Here's a different picture w/o the lamp installed. I may do something w/ the top. But I kinda like the worn work bench look.

Alternatively, if you want real chrome, Something that I've used to "rechrome" headlight housings is a product called "trim-brite" And it's actual metal but very thin and with adhesive on the back of it. It's marketed as a type of rocker panel decor. It comes in 6" widths, several feet long. I've cut templates out and restored the headlights on my Lincoln Mark VIII (to which replacements are not available) So long as you prep and thoroughly clean the surface, that stuff sticks really, really well once applied. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/TRM0/T1830/N0546.oap?pt=N0546&ppt=C0065

I am off to a good start. I just made a permanent desk at home finally. I really might build something this year!

I havent gotten hooked on garlic yet... but I have a bad habit of putting a lot of hot sauce and jalapenos on chili... and I love chili... And I regret it typically.

Build of my 1:1 2013 Mustang - Updated 4/11
JTalmage replied to SterlingStang13's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I agree. I've been so infatuated with hot rods lately that its prevented me from doing so! I am really surprised at myself that I havent picked up a dozen of the Revell foxbody drag cars by now. -

excellent job on the weathering. Looks like a truck you'd find tucked in the hills! -
If someone comes along and tells me it looks like doodie then I'll tell him where to stick it. However, if someone comes along and offers advice on how to make something look a little better and especially after I ask for comments/critique, then I'm all for it if they can go about it in an appropriate manner.

Reminds me of my experience using natural/artificial vanilla extract... So back when I was a teen, I loved milkshakes... a lot. They were my favorite thing. You know, all kids go thru phases. So I was reading up on how to make a real deal vanilla milkshake like a restaraunt. And I saw that artificial vanilla extract was used. So I would make my milkshake with ice cream, milk and artificial vanilla. It was amazing. So next time I thought if it was good maybe I should try more. It was still amazing! So the time after that I thought to myself if artificial vanilla extract tastes good then natural vanilla extract should be EVEN BETTER! Right? Wrong. I apparently used too much. And it's a darn good thing I had 3 days in a row off of work that week because I lived on the toilet for a few days. Now I'm apparently mildly lactose intolerant. Yay

JTalmage replied to TooOld's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is just amazing. I love both of those... the blue beetle and the little T... cool stuff. -
That is absolute perfection!!! Looks like someone bought their favorite car in '67 and loved driving it every day for the next 30 years

Bench Time = Therapy
JTalmage replied to MsDano85gt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That happens to me too... LOL There's just something about being in the zone! -
I want to turn mine into a short bed too. Also, a tip on the weathering, the inner fenders were galvanized so they really didnt rust like the rest of the body, but they did get a chalky gray color (plus whatever motor oil/power steering fluid is caked on there! LOL) and some did eventually rust at the tops back by the firewall.

I find it relaxing to build while listening to some good ole rock n roll, or watching movies (mostly for background noise) Of course. I find it just as relaxing to build a real car under the same scenarios. Also, I hadn't drank alcohol while building a model before the recent couple years (that's how long its been since I've seriously been serious about building again LOL) and that is also pretty enjoyable along with the music. -
Boy oh boy this is looking good

Why do your kits end up stalled
JTalmage replied to atomicholiday's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can completely agree with those reasons you listed. I see all the wonderful builds on here and I want to make mine that awesome... and get in over my head. Imagineering seems to take hold of me in both the model world and the 1:1 world... I like building it and buying parts more than I do having the thing together it seems. -

JTalmage replied to atomicholiday's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Agreed... its become more of a winter thing for me too. I have too many 1:1 cars that take up my time. Amongst other projects. Also, if the kit is molded in color I have to paint everything twice. That gets annoying. If something goes wrong I get burned out on it and throw it back in the box for the time being. Or if I lose a part I'll also put it back in the box and be done with it for a while. -
Ohhh Wild Strawberry Metallic.... gorgeous color.
-
I've not done a thing besides locate a few parts. I'm trying to reorganize and get a desk to build on.

Very good!

Out of curiosity.... why use the amt hatch instead of the revell monogram 93 ccobra hatch? Scale?

Eat My Dust now for mine... might be a toughy for folks in the USA. The yellow car on top.
