Thanks! I'm really surprised how well the hood filling has gone so far. I've done it in the past with terrible results too....

1/25 Revell '29 Model A Roadster 2'n'1

I very, very rarely buy two of any model before building the first one.... but this one... I will probably have to have 5 or 6 of them easily. I bought 6 of the old monogram 30 Model A 5 windows off ebay so far... Never even built one yet... I just love 30-31 Model A's. Now.... If Revell released an updated/new tooled 30-31 5 window........... whoooooo boy.. I'd go in debt. I can already see myself getting about 3 or 4 of these kits mixed up on the bench while kit bashing and customizing. Looks like I'll be making some 30-31 Model A chopped 5 window hot rods sooner than I thought. -
I am soo doing this one now... Good excuse for what will be left of my thunderbolt after I use the chassis!

Looks like the Fairlane Thunderbolt Roof. Wrong for the year, but looks fantastic on there. The rear tail panel would need some work to look right as well... but I'm digging it so far!

That color works perfectly with the build idea!

Got home late last night and only spent about a half hour on it. Got brave and decided to just go ahead and chop the fender flare off. With a little fitting and visual inspection I trimmed the fender and the flare that I cut off, and added a few bends in the plastic flare to make it flow w/ the fender better. Turning out ok I think! I am looking at buying a body to cut the backs of the front fenders off and use them for the front of the back quarter panels... instead of hacking and reusing parts. We'll see how that pans out.

Neat idea!

I dig it. Gonna have to get a few of them for sure. And maybe experiment with the old monogram 30 5 window body on the Z frame.... -
NOW THAT is a great looking roadster!!!

use some baremetal foil in those spots, then use a metallic red or turn signal amber and paint that over the BMF and leave just enough unpainted to show the chrome bezel the light is in.

I seen that at the store when I picked up my single part spot putty. Should have gotten that instead of trying to be lazy. Does it sand easier and apply thinner?

Beautiful build

Which Dodge Challenger kit is better, the Monogram or Revell?
JTalmage replied to Monty's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wow glad I read this. I was thinking of picking up the new Revell Challenger 2n1 and now that I know its based on their metal kit... I may pass.... the '68 Mustang was enough for me... Sad really -
I think it would be awesome if I could actually make this thing look good when it is finished. Would be cool to see it resin casted afterwards if it turns out.

So here's some more pictures from last night. Pretty much spent 3 hours sanding on it. Here's the trunk after filling the sink marks on the edge. As you can also see there the roof was turning out better. I worked on the wheel arch a little and added a small strip of styrene to the very bottom to make it line up w/ the front bumper better. Still have to cut off the other 3 flares. I'm dreading it thinking I had beginners luck on the first one. Too bad I dont have a spare body to cut off pieces from. Also didnt like how the hood looked in person. Had some low spots still visible in the filler primer so I spent about another 30mins sanding it to what I think is pretty darn close. Hopefully start on the other flares tonight. I'll be impressed with myself if I can get those accomplished by end of week.

How quickly does the super glue and baking soda dry?? I switched to a flexible finishing glaze, but it is old, and seems to be a little rubbery. Although the roof turned out awesome last night. Posting pictures soon...

You nailed it! what a beauty. -
I hate having more than one project on the bench at any given time... but I just can't seem to help it. I pulled my '55 chevy truck out and it's on the bench, along w/ my Rockford Files Firebird... well, I decided that 1 extra kit on the bench was not enough to keep me from feeling burned out on the '55 Chevy truck... So I opted for another. Back story... I've had this one since I was a kid. And I remember my dad mostly building this one for me. Painted it blue... I have no idea what or where the engine came from because it's not the Hemi and it's not the flathead that the latest reissue comes with.. But yet it has the cross ram on it.. maybe it was my dad's Idea of a kit bash back then. I don't recall. Anyway, this kit slowly fell apart as it sat on the shelf and I decided one day in my early days to take it apart and rebuild it. I was probably either a pre-teen or an early teen at the time. lost interest in it after I masked it off because I realized it needed bodywork because of how the testors glue made sink marks in the roof due to gluing the windows in. Well, I didnt know how to do bodywork to a real car let alone a model car back then, so in the parts box it went. Fast forward to Friday. I was looking for some parts for the Firebird and for another member here. I came across the Merc and decided that its been shuffled around from parts box to parts box long enough and now was the time to let it come back to life. Over the past, say, 15 years or so since it's been in a box I've developed a greater appreciation for hot rods than I did as a kid. And one of those things I like are led sleds. So this will be rebuilt as a led sled and I'll drop it as far as I can go, paint it all black, and my friend said he wanted to lay down some flames all over it with some tape and cut them out, and I'll spray on a crazy color over the black. Started by shaving the trim and door handles... Also filled the roof and it still needs more work... Also shaved the hood... Several coats of duplicolor filler primer later... Probably going to go w/ this grille. I am thinking about finding some steel wheels and just using the baby moon caps and thats it... not sure on interior color either.. Engine is going to stay exactly like it is... I will post a picture of it as soon as I take one. So there's my 3rd on the bench adventure in A.D.D....

Cool thanks. I'll see if hobbytown usa has any when I go to get some brass rod/tubing to use for axles..

An old Sears Silvertone amp... this thing Thanks! I cant seem to focus on one project now that I have a desk...

More pictures of the "de-trans-am'ing" Shaving that rear spoiler off gets pretty close to busting thru the styrene... in fact. I threw a line of testors glue on the backside to help it... came back and saw sink marks on the trunk lid from it. Whoops. more areas to fill... So then I decided I needed to jump in head first and start cutting the flares off... I used some zap a gap and glued the t tops in... and then also used some spot putty to fill the gaps. I've never used bondo on a model before. And this stuff doesnt impress me. I need to find an alternative. Rebuilt the front wheel arch the best I could using the remainder of the flare and pieces of old rear spoiler. worked pretty well. Still need to do some shaping but its pretty darn close. I think so far it's turning out pretty good. I need to invest in a new type of filler to really make this thing smooth.
