Plastic A.D.D. strikes again... The tale of 2 Model A's
JTalmage replied to JTalmage's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That would be cool especially if you raked the chassis too. Real mean looking wedge. no color plans yet. I just mostly pulled it out of the box to chop it and come up w/ a plan. It needs to go back in the box so I can *finish* stuff. And no, no progress for muscle truck yet. I got some resin parts for it that will help further it along but it is still in that "I took it out of the box to plan and tinker, then it went back in the box to finish something else" stage. LOL With the hours I've been working, and the work I've GOT to get done on my real cars... I just havent been able to get dedicated lately. most of what I do comes from late Fridays/early Saturdays with a beer at my side and netflix on. -
Plastic A.D.D. strikes again... The tale of 2 Model A's
JTalmage replied to JTalmage's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You'll have to stretch the roof a little, or lean the front A-pillars back on a 32. -
So, I can't seem to finish one thing before getting burned out, but yet I can't not touch a kit so I decided I wanted to mess with an old monogram kit. I had won a salt flat 30 model a resin body off ebay which spurred this. I wanted to chop one of these badly... so I did. My intent was to make this a channeled hot rod... but I think I like it better w/ the fenders! This was my first real roof chop on a model car. Got pretty hairy at first but cleaned up nice. After the roof came off I had one of those "oh, what have I done!" moments... But after about an hour of sanding and filing it turned out really great! So I mocked up up w/ the fenders and the chopped body... and as much of a channeled fenderless fan that I am.... I cannot get over how awesome this looks... Wheels are from ThePartsBox.com and is the front Drop axle. However the axle wasnt sitting in its proper place. If I did that the front would sit up even more. I want it to sit EXACTLY like it does in the above picture. In the weeds, tires almost rubbing the fenders. I think that is a hot look... Just gotta figure out how to make it all come together. I think I'll substitute the 4 banger for a Flathead V8. One thing I didnt take pictures of... I also flipped the trunk hinges to open to the front instead of for a rumble seat. So I can put the fuel tank/battery/etc back there.

Some bumper mounted high powered foglights would be pretty hilarious

Roadkill Monte
JTalmage replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've already thought about it too... but I'll never get to it. I have a TON of kits destined for Roadkill replicas.... just can't seem to finish anything to get to that point. -
Got this... Apparently it's soo new its not on the website yet... found out after getting it that it's from Altered States models! It's a '30 Model A Roadster salt flat racer. With copious amounts of louvers which is pleasing! It's designed to work w/ the old monogram 1/24 scale kit (the green one) and since I've been hoarding those lately I'm kinda excited about this one.

AMT 49 Mercury rebuild (scalloped and painted!)
JTalmage replied to JTalmage's topic in WIP: Model Cars
So my friend had real trouble drawing on the tape w/ a pencil. So I took it back and rewrapped it w/ green tape, and then free-handed some scallops on it. Not my best work but I had some free time after I got off work before I went to bed, and just wanted it DONE. So... you could say maybe the car was built by an amateur in the 60's if it were a real car. (or an amateur like myself in the 2015's hahaha) In hindsight I liked what I did on the trunk better than what I did on the roof and hood. Wish I would have done that to those instead of what I did. Oh well. Live n learn. I painted the exposed areas w/ tamiya titanium gold. Which is a neat color by the way. Then I lightly dusted it a few times with tamiya candy lime green. Which is also a killer color. I let it sit for about 20mins and then couldnt help myself and started peeling the tape! I knicked the roof a little peeling the tape off. Paint wasnt 100 percent hard. Oh well! Never intended it to be a show winner. Just wanted to finally pull it out of my parts box! Probably work on it a little more this weekend. Going to foil the front and rear window trim. -
I'm kinda towards the middle of southern Ohio...

Yep.. AMC Pacer. Nicknamed "the fish bowl"

Painted trim vs. BMF
JTalmage replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's a comparison on two builds of mine. These were taken at the Cincinnati Challenge by someone. I do not know who, otherwise I'd credit them. Pictures are sort of low light. but you can still see a big difference. First one is an AMT '68 Roadrunner that I used a Testors paint pen/marker on. Then cleared over that. Here's another picture of my first attempt at BMF. It's the AMT snap tite Barracuda. I feel pretty confident in doing BMF now. Especially if THAT was my first try... I just cut out thin lenghts with a pair of scissors from a swiss army knife I've used for years for my model building, and then trimmed them w/ a fresh, or fairly fresh blade and then used a toothpick to rub the edges in, and used a paper towel to sort of buff the chrome. Then cleared over them. It works for me but may not work for you. But thats how I do it. -
Wow thats coming along well! I havent touched any of my kits for the cannonball
-
Looks great! I just picked up the round2 reissue of this kit last night.

Probably pretty comfortably on his expensive sheets and pillows bought w/ inflated model car part prices. lol

Your worst builds
JTalmage replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All of my builds that were terrible have long fallen apart. And I've either salvaged them for other projects, or threw them in a box to be rebuilt later. -
What was your 1st 1 to car
JTalmage replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My first car... My grandma bought this car brand new. Had 32,000 miles when I got it. It is a 2.3 4cyl with a 3 speed auto. No highway car by any means. I love the car, needs restored now though. Hit a deer in it and its sat outside while I try to get my '88 Mustang street/strip car in shape. -

In true Roadkill fashion the hood would be strapped to the roof. LOL Neat idea though!

Holy cow...I WANT this...
JTalmage replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What a beauty. I wanted one for many years as a kid... til I realized how expensive mopar stuff is. Closest thing I had was a clapped out '74 Plymouth Scamp lol
