What did you see on the road today?
JTalmage replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yesterday on my way home from work, I spotted a blue 56-ish Crown Victoria, followed by a pink one. then a '69 Roadrunner, then a '48 Chevy truck, then a couple other older fat fender cars I didnt get a good look at. Musta been some sort of show I missed. I also saw a deer buy it by a fullsize chevy diesel literally right next to me. silly thing ran up to the road, got scared, turned around and ran back towards the fence, did a loop and ran right back toward the road w/ a burst of courage. Well, I knew what he was about to do, and I hit the brakes. Diesel truck didnt see him in time and WHAM! smack dab in the middle of the front end of that truck. Truck parts exploded and went everywhere. Grille, bumper, headlights, you name it! I was on edge yesterday after that! -
Nothing kills the modeling motivation like..........

I know how you feel. As I got older and tastes changed, room and furniture changed. I now no longer have a desk to do building. I set up in my buddy's basement for a while to build when he was in to it again, but that was short lived and I live too far from him to get anything accomplished. I now build on a fold up table in my room, sitting on a milk crate. No serious room on the fold up table, so every time I use a paint it goes right back in to my shoebox that I keep my building supplies in. -
AMT '74 Plymouth Barracuda snaptite, another quick build!

Well, white stripes it was. Added some BMF to the turn signal lenses and then added some paint on them. Decals were giving me fits at first because I was getting bubbles under them that I couldnt get out. They didnt want to adhere to the car very well either. But, with this kit being pretty old I almost expected that. However when I got them to dry and blew some clear on them, they turned out pretty well. It's so humid out that the clear was taking a really long time to dry. I was able to handle it a few hours later just enough to throw the grille into it, and the headlights/bumper. My real camera's battery decided to actually take a charge last night, so I'll get some good pictures of it when its finished... probably tonight! -
I have a dumb question. I've searched the web for about 20 minutes today to no avail.... does anyone make resin hot rod/deuce/t-bucket windshield frames? I've got a few bodies I'd like to put together once I teach myself how to build frames, and I realized I'm missing a lot of the window frames. I could muster up some clear for the glass, but frames, to me, seem a little harder to come by/build.

Wheels look neat! if they were split spokes, they would look close to the 10th anniversary cobra wheels.

Well, those were just a few mock up pictures. The rear valence and bumper will make the front end go down, because the back end isnt sitting where it should. Also the wheels werent fully pressed on the axles. I noticed those things as well. I'll take care of that hopefully once its done. Of course this makes me now realize I forgot to paint the rear valence. -

Thanks guys. I detailed the wheels last night, and also added BMF to the turn signal markers. Then painted them appropriately. Was so tired I forgot to take pictures. Plus I was caught up in Magnum P.I. lol I also realized I goofed and painted the tail panel silver, when it should have been black. So I corrected that. -
New month, new update.... Still havent gotten my parts from "a/gass". Been over six months. Might have to withdraw the General Mayhem from this challenge and find some other kit(s) to put in the ring...

Couple quick pics of it mocked up.. didnt have a lot of time to work on it this weekend... I painted the trim w/ model masters chrome and it looked just ok over the bronze. But I felt now was the time to try my hand at BMF. And I must say, I'm impressed with my first time results. I didnt do the wheel arches because I tried a few times and just decided to leave them alone. But everything else looks great in my opinion! Then w/ the BMF... Also added a wash to the gills of the grill center. BMF applied to the door handles, rocker moldings, and all window trim. Had the interior been in separate pieces I would have done door handles and whatnot, but since it was a one piece tub, I just painted the handles chrome. I'm also surprised at how well the BMF held up not in a "cold" environment. I've had this pack for almost a year unopened and its been anywhere from a basement, to the seat of my truck, to my closet and its still holds. So, since the car is close to needing clearcoat... this begs the question.... White stripes or Black stripes??? -
I love it!

I've been waiting for some parts for over SIX months.

Truth. lol It upsets me more when someone is careless or lazy enough to not take pride and put good solid craftsmanship into their own 1:1 project vehicle than anything. I have a friend who painted under hood of is '86 LX coupe with "heat resistant bbq grille paint" and isnt worried about the rust holes in his torque boxes, or the holes in the floor he's going to patch with flashing and caulk... like... really dude you have an aluminum headed 302 that is a MACHINE and you're putting not fixing the death trap that its in?? Thats the kind of stuff that really irks me. model cars are model cars to me. I love building them, but I do it for me. I dont go crazy detailed on them, or care if they have an uncontrolable flaw. such is life. It's just plastic.

Has anyone seen this kit on the shelves ?
JTalmage replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Uhh..... thats definitely a photoshop if I've ever seen one. However if it was a kit... I'd burn it. -
Needs the velocity stacks though!

And if you want to run Torq-Thrust wheels, you can probably rob them from the '68 Mustang Cobra Jet, because it comes w/ the parts to make a Bullitt car, and they are the goofy wheels that are bigger than they should be that fit *inside* the hollow tires.

So here's some pics from last night. Tamiya primer is the shizz... Shot some gray metallic on it after the primer, just a quick base of it. Same color as I painted the '94 Camaro I just finished Then shot model masters dark bronze metallic. Which looks *pretty close* to Aztec Gold. Sprayed the chassis to simulate overspray Got the chassis *mostly* detailed minus a wash to darken things up Had to put a few layers of brown o the interior to get it to cover... not happy with the fact that I nearly lose all the texture in the mold... Mixed some brown w/ a few drops of white and made light brown inserts. So more to come tonight. It's coming along quickly! Should I paint the headliner the same brown as the interior, or the light brown that I mixed up? What would it have been on a real car? -
LOVE IT!!!!!!! I'm a fan of any well done Mad Max movie car!!! A+!!

Pics tomorrow.... got a lot done tonight. Color isn't spot on but I'm happy with it. Interior is just ok. Really hard to cover up that molded in yellow plastic.... -
