What movies do you watch over and over?
JTalmage replied to sjordan2's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I'm currently watching my favorite older TV shows on Netflix at the moment... but when I do watch my movies its typically these: Mad Max series Clint Eastwood/Sergio Leone's "The Man With No Name" trilogy. Bullitt Gone in 60 seconds (original) Hollywood Knights The Blues Brothers Vanishing Point (orignal) The Great Escape Nevada Smith The Magnificent Seven The Getaway (original) The Thomas Crown Affair (original) Cannonball Run Hooper Smokey & The Bandit series Back to The Future trilogy White Lightning America Grafitti The California Kid Gosh there's soo many.... I have so many car movies its rediculous. Hot Rods/Car Chase and Westerns are my favorite movies. -
Thanks! I didnt have much time to work on it this weekend. I had to go out of town. But I did work on it friday evening and when I got back yesterday. Here's what it looked like out of the bag on Friday. I needed to do more parts and perfect the look so I added more iron surfacer, let it dry, brushed on the solution, and back in the bag it went for about 2 days. I wrapped them in plastic bags too... as an experiment to see if it would give it any textures. Here's what it looked like when I got back sunday. It didnt let some of the spots fully react to the solution. So I touched those spots up with more iron surfacer and back in the bag it went... You can really see the imperfections on the hood and a little on the roof. I took it out of the bag this morning and it looked considerably better but I didnt snap any pictures. I think the body is done now as far as rust goes. I did cheat a little and realized that the roof on '55 chevy trucks can be white. But I didnt know that when I painted it. So after I rusted the top I painted around the perimeter and some parts of the center w/ white, and then rusted it again. Looks perfect! The window trim is deceiving because it LOOKS like it should have BMF on it for the trim... but pictures I see of most trucks dont have chrome trim. So I need to do more research on that.

I'm in love with this build. Amazing! I cant bring myself to hack one up like that for the fear of it not going back together!

Not sure if its the same, but I've used the old white glue to glue in any windows on model cars.

lmao... wow. uses like 6ft for a 3" problem.

What cars interest you in resin 1/25

It's an oddball... but I wish someone would master a '93-'96 Lincoln Mark VIII -
I'm on one called "Model Cars" but its mostly people asking over and over how to do this or that, and where can I get this car that doesnt exist or that car that doesnt exist.

Some Amazing Scratchbuilding
JTalmage replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thats pretty freaking neat. I remember as a kid getting some wooden cars just like those... built the exact same way... the way the wheels are dimpled and had bronze pins... almost like the same guy made em. Neat!!!! And thats what I would consider "building from scratch" as well. -
I'm hoping my plan I had for something very similar to that will pan out. I painted a red/brown color over the red oxide primer, then a white over the red/brown, then the green over the white. I'm hoping that I can wetsand it very lightly to expose the white and then go thru to the red/brown which will look like dull rust. We'll see. The paint doesnt stick to this purple plastic at all it seems which doesnt make me very happy.

Looks great! Love rusty cars...

Looks good. Like almost faded to a coral color.

Youre making me want to pull mine out of the box and start on it... Going polar opposite of your idea though!

That was exactly what I had in mind when I did this. However the chrome was gone on the spokes of the fronts. The rears I tried to wipe off the best I could before putting the solution on them. I'm going to add some greyish paint to the spokes afterwards. Just a mock up pick. But good catch on that. Most dont notice that.

dang those are beautiful....

Love Top Gear! Great ideas and cool builds!

Thats what I thought when I read the article. 57's have the things on the hood like a Bel Air of the same year. Similar. New pictures! Rusted the old cragars because the chrome was worn off. Also put a few dents and dings in the truck because hey, its an old neglected truck turned 60's Hot Rod! I followed that with a base coat of red oxide primer. And I added my favorite 2 part solution... but should I add more??

Still awesome that you have the imagination to use these things that would probably just get thrown away and then you turn it into something awesome! -

garage diorama fully detailed and fully scratch build ...
JTalmage replied to crazyrichard's topic in WIP: Dioramas
What kind of wood are you making most of this out of? I swear one day I'm going to make a diorama. But I dont think it will be nearly as good as anything youve done Richard. Just awesome work! I cant get over your ability to find some every-day item that most would not look twice at before throwing it away, and you see something else in it and turn it into a part or a piece of furniture, or the heater from your last hot rod garage... I cannot get over your creativity. It's amazing! -
Promotional rescue: The 1957 Ford Custom 300 sedan
JTalmage replied to Maindrian Pace's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I agree. Looks fantastic but it definitely needs some BMF on the trim, and some white walls. that would really set it off. -

JTalmage replied to JTalmage's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I have some leftover photo etched grille from the General Mayhem project thats on hold waiting on parts still and I think I'll use it. It wont quite have the depth the original grill has, but it will at least look the part. I would make a grille from styrene sheet, but I dont have that kind of patience. -
