  1. Thanks Randy. If Testors did their homework they would known that the 73 bumper is about twice as large as the 71/72. If it was a separate piece like in plastic kit it could be swapped with one from a kit or a resin replacement. They could have also put on the 73 stripes (which are a little wider) or let the "builder" put on their own decals. I think they were going for the average person and wanted to make it look nice in the packaging (which it does) and were not too concerned about 100% accuracy. As I have said before, the paint on these is very nice and they do a fabulous job on the hood if it wasn't for those darn vents carrived over from the MPC kit. Here's the DM diecast which is the gold standard as far as being the most accurate 71 Mustang model.
  2. You are right about the box art Gary. It's a shame as it looks to be an okay kit (no worse than an IMC GT40 MKII).
  3. Very nice. I have built a number of 1/43 kits and this looks pretty detailed. The decals will be fun.?
  4. The movie was pretty bad but "eleanor" is one of top recognizable tv/movie cars of all time. I guess I am partial to yellow 71-73 Mustangs. Mine is the top picture. I will admit I did not see it in the theatre - I was a sophomore in high school around that time.
  5. A wheels swap would make sense on this diecast. Also, a repaint ang grille swap and you could make an Eleanor since it has the flat hood.
  6. I have some experience in this area. The sales tax (if applicable) should be the rate based on the buyers zip code (state, county, city, parish). What I assume if the seller is not responsible for remitting the amount billed to the taxing jurisdictions but that Ebay collects it and remits the taxes to the taxing authorities. I think this came about because these jurisdictions complained for decades that the self reporting of "use" tax by buyers was very low and since online sales grow every year those sellers had an advantage over brick and mortar stores that had to charge everyone tax applicable to the state of purchase.
  7. No love for the best kits ever? ?. You might consider the Motormax diecast for some SnakeFu magic. It's the red one in the back row next to three Testors ones. The front row are AMT and MPC. I also have a green Motormax sportsroof and the Danbury Mint Boss 351 and blue Mach1 which put everything else to share. Also not pictured are some Japanese kits (with no engine of course).
  8. I bet a few out there would not mind seeing both of these kits reissued. I built these in the 90's. After I took the pictures I touched up the stripe decals with blue paint on the Kemp Cobra.
  9. Engine aside it's a hybrid 72/73. I say this because the side stripes and grille are for a 72, but the larger bumper, chrome around the headlights and the stripe on the trunk are unique to a 73. I'm not sure if those style hubcaps were available in 73 - they first appeared in 70. I know - only the purists care. ?
  10. I agree 100% Mr. Boyd. I think the Japanese have always liked the Exotic european engines and will go to great lengths to make detailed racing and non-race car kits and let the American based companies make muscle cars and sedans, etc. usually with engines to please the Ford, Chevy, Mopar guys etc.. Meanwhile in Europe most North American builders ignored the fabulous (usually curbside but very accurate) 1/43 kits in resin and metal and covered many cars not available to ths day in 1/25 scale. I know these statements are a ast over simplification but I am pretty grateful for whatever is out there but I also will be the first to point out "errors" such as "that engine never came in that year Mustang" but most of us are talented enough to makes things right. If not, we look to the resin casters that make our hobby ever better and we can forget about all the current chaos and do what we enjoy in one of the few silver linings of the times - time to spend with family and some extra hobby time.
  11. The stripes came out pretty good. Now to finish the exterior glass, decals, etc. and hopefully I can wrap this one up in a few days.
  12. Very nice build. One of many many Mustang kits I have yet to finish but I have painted a few bodies.
  13. Looking good Cobraman. I think you are beginning to like the 71-73 Mustangs. All of these are a restomod in a way since the Boss 429 engine was only available in 69-70 Mustangs even though those years had a smaller engine compartment. FYI - the title says 1/18 but these are 1/25 scale based on the old MPC kit (but recast in metal of course and the body is prepainted).
  14. Just about done with the chassis. Not sure how much of the engine will be visible though. Waiting for the stripe paint to dry.
  15. Super nice paint and detailing. Well done.
  16. Learning curve. Started to put on the orange stripe decals are decided they are not going to cut it. The are too many places they decals will not form to the shape so I spent a lot of time taping. Also decided to go with the HRM carbs as the others were too large and slanted. I also had to cut away part of the bulkhead for the engine to fit. I got a little more done on the interior and will paint the stripes tomorrow and maybe finish the rear suspension and engine assembly.
  17. Thanks Jason. I am going to have to see if any of the kits I have include those interesting roof lights. The ringlets look smaller than I thought but I spent an hour on the seat already. I think I have photoeth ringlets but that would take forever to do.
  18. Thanks. I'll use which ever steering wheel matches the pictures you posted the best.
  19. Latest progress. Next steps are the clear pieces, decal and final assembly after test fittiing everything.
  20. So the exhaust winner for this build is Thunder Valley cast metal one. It's on the top left. Mad Mike's is one the bottom right and is going in the Thunder Valley conversion kit. The HRM on the top right will go in the modified Fujumi MKI and the bottom left is the IMC set which is 1/25 scale which is too small for these kits and will be used for a MKI.
  21. Worked some more on it yesterday and this morning. More decals problems (Fujumi guages) so I ended up doing the glue trick versus putting them in water. I hope I do not run into this problem with all my older kits. Once I get the interior done and test fit everything I will figure out how far I will go with the parts box engine. I'm saving the 3D engines for some other kits and using this one as a test to see what I can do with the rear suspension with leftover IMC MKII and MPC MKIV parts.
  22. I forgot exactly how much they were new but I seem t recall at least $150. I have the yellow 72 Mach and 03 Mach1. I hate t say this but if you wait another month you might see prices drop as people start to sell off some things. I picked up a Maisto 03 Cobra off Ebay for a good price a few months ago at about half of what some were listed. I am crossing my fingers that the All Ford show in June @ Carlisle will still happen as they are always vendors up this with hard to find models and diecast for sale at reasonable prices This is going to be an interesting summer for sure for car and model shows. I've been watching old episodes of My Classic Car and other shows that used to be on Speedvision and of course building models. Good luck in your search.
  23. Eddie Money is next to Rhoda. RIP Roc Ocasek and the others.
  24. Gary, You are the best. I made some progress today on it. This will help a lot.
