I think us Americans should remember the NFL is just a game and as William above points out is just nonsense, which is why it's so fun to watch. But to use professional sports (especially the brutality of the NFL) as a source for role models is not a good idea.
Cheating is cheating, and the Patriots will be penalized. But while the haters question their integrity on playing with the psi, why isn't there more questions on their blindness to Arron Hernandez's life as a murderer? That to me taints their integrity more than video cameras and soft balls. But it's too abstract of a connection to write a damning headline I guess.
I just want to say one more thing. The year the Patriots went 17 and 1 (the year of spy gate), the DETROIT LIONS won just one game (I think) and when I watched their last game I looked in the stands and it struck me that these are true football fans. No joke.
Wait, I lied. One more thing. There was another coach from Massachusetts, William Naismith (inventor of basketball) who coined my favorite sports quote:
"Athletic competition is the Enjoyment of the opponent's Character."
I read this in a small booklet published from the time of the game's 50th anniversary. I lost the booklet and I can't find any documentation of that quote anywhere. And that says a lot about our society ...
