Need help with parts
jbwelda replied to Nova-ss's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
oh. i stand corrected then. i thought the reissue (which the motor i showed certainly is from) was just like the original, but obviously not. i would have preferred those dodge valve covers to be honest. thanks for the corrections. -
that looks sweet! how bout some detail pics, under the hood etc?
-
i would be willing to bet if everyone is being honest (no slur intended on any party, just sayin), and not counting some punk walking by and grabbing the package on the porch, that it has already shown up or will within a month. ive been in a similar situation more than once and every time, way past the point where youve forgotten about it or written it off, it will show up one day unexpectedly. once months later. personally i think the usps does a pretty admirable job, especially out here in the country.

Need help with parts
jbwelda replied to Nova-ss's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i am not so sure that bottom left motor is from the alakart, and definately the ala kart didnt come with that induction setup. heres an ala kart motor i just built: i didnt show it, but the trans is really not very engraved like the one shown is...i wish it were more detailed like that! but man thats a great little stash for the future! -
>I often thought that the chrome finish drag chute packs were meant to mimic the flame retardant material >used on the driver's flame suits. by golly i think you hit that nail on the head! that thought never crossed my mind but now that you bring it up, a little dullcoat and indeed: flameproof material! here i thought the best you could get out of it was to paint around the buckle for the pack and leave it (the buckle) chrome!

1/25 figure of a "square" from the 60s needed
jbwelda replied to Aaronw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

Ed Roth's kids are building cars!
jbwelda replied to seeker589's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i think that is one of the koolest 58s i have ever seen. -
even though i had to lay out > 30 bones, i think i got a great deal on these old revell parts packs. there was one in pretty nice box (roadster chassis speed equipment) plus at least one of the same without box, plus major parts of the roadster frame etc. this is some very cool and detailed fiddly bits. plus two chrome parachutes! not sure why you would want chrome parachutes but there you have it...twice!

Ace Hardware store sale
jbwelda replied to wisdonm's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
ace/university hardware in berkeley has half its basement dedicated to models and probably 2/3 if you count endless hot wheels, etc. plus all kinds of cool architectural accourtrements for all the architecture students at the univ. its a great place and you wouldnt even know they sold models from the outside. on University right where it dead ends into the university. they usually participate in these sort of promotions and also have one or two sidewalk sales a year with big discounts. -

jbwelda replied to Chris in Berwyn's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
this isnt my normal subject matter but that sure is kool! just the fact that frame appears to be molded all in one piece, seems a modern miracle to me! and i totally dig those front wheels! looks like another one or two for my christmas list! -

> It was. It was actually a Show n' Go car. that had to be some hecka ride! yeah i thought i remembered it was a real car. dont recall whether the model came first or the car. i have seen the current black widow out at shows etc. its slightly different but i believe its got the main components of the original. might be totally wrong on that and if so please correct me. again not sure which came first, the model or the car (back nin the sixties, not the current day black widow)...or, for that matter, whether i remember a 1:1 black widow "back in the day".

Channeled Deuce Bellypan Roadster No.2 - Completed 12-19
jbwelda replied to Bernard Kron's topic in WIP: Model Cars
i think that first one is pretty sweet looking too! about the ride height situation, i see the front end coming down a bit more and then it would look much more like the prototype. im looking at the profile photo of your model and comparing to the profile of the prototype...i notice that the rear wheel line that was formed by the fenders now missing, and looking at it in relation to the top of the tire. i think it looks pretty close. thats why i think either mounting the front axle higher on the frame, or getting one with more drop to it might improve your outlook a bit. meanwhile though, No 2 is certainly looking good too! -
that bubble top looks like it belongs there! what a killer design!

Project Willys Panel
jbwelda replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
are there any photos of the car as it is or mocked up as its going to be? -
funny thing is, i really dig the black widow, green hornet and that line of kits. yeah they were funky (the rear axle of the green hornet anyway is attached to the frame ends like its the rear crossmember too, etc) but they were really kool at the time and even now. i like the lift off body of the hornet and the black widow just looks good. lots of upgrading options out of the spares box too. so i am glad we are seeing the black widow again, they were getting too expensive on ebay.

>the cool old Wild Dream kit had to die to make this kit is that true? its a shame if so, and i am not doubting your word, just curious are there significant left over parts in this reissue, the fire engine? if so it might be worthwhile just for the chassis etc. thanks for the info by the way, its always interesting to see what one classic model morphed into in later years.

chances of finding model kits at carboot?
jbwelda replied to Deckerz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
hmmm i went to a lotus club show out in coventry and they had a boot sale and indeed there were a number of models, built and not, to be had there, for pretty cheap mostly. now i know what you mean probably isnt a car-centric flea market (as they are referred to here in the states), but i think you have as good a chance as anywhere of coming across something. secret probably is to get there early (as in way before i care to get somewhere like that on a sunday morning) as i have ahem heard thats when the good stuff goes fast. now that i think of it i was at a neighborhood flea market in copenhagen and two or three people had model kits, i recall one tamiya wrc subaru or something like that. -
just got word from tapani that work is progressing on the type 3 karmann ghia, in fact it sounds like it is on the verge of being offered to the public! he sent some photos of the master he is making for me to post here. looks killer from my vantage! here is what he said about the master: I have attached Tamiya KG bumpers, but am still going to make the KG34 bumpers for the kit. The body casting is rather thin, so the builder can cut open the engine cover and add the detail seen under it. I will also make the dash board and cast the door/rear panels whose master parts you see inside the model in the photos. price should be 45 euros and will fit the tamiya karmann ghia. from what ive seen in real life, the interior have seats much like a porsche 356, and the enthusiasts fujimi 356 has excellent ones.
