Hi Brad, man I really like the tin work, beautifully bent around the frame rails. The rivets really hit it off too, good stuff! Very convincing. Your metal applications really raise the value and the optical perception of the whole car. This is a really clean build. Michael

Matt, I like the 1st pic especially too. Looks like the1963 or '64 category judging from the wheelbase, which looks to be the 150 inch range. Nice car. Finding PE front wire wheels will be tough. The guys who have good ones are out of stock. I checked and had email correspondence just this previous week. The kit ones are terrible.
-
Matt, if you don't mind; 152" wheelbase, 1964 182" wheelbase, 1969 The 2nd car is about a "front wheel and a half" longer. Everything else basically the same.

Hi Matt, I like these cars a lot too. FYI, do a Google search and you can find lots of original cars that have been torn down and completely restored with good photo and text documentation. Really a priceless collection that leaves practically nothing untouched about these cars. I agree too, getting the proper year is important as the development was intense. The cars that had the frames completely covered were show cars for sure, but I like the ones you're aiming at and I've figured about 1966/67 is about the sweet spot. Maximum wheelbase 175" for the open cars, longer and they don't seem to be in perspective, my opinion. Good luck.

Thanks Tom, I'm familiar, the 1st link is a fine tutorial which got me interested. I noticed too on these links, you were interested as well. Did you have success? I'm definitely giving this thing a whirl. Michael

That car looks fine to me, cleanly built with a nice paint job. Altereds are just cool in my book. How did you get the effect on the wheels?
-
Hi Bill, I'll do exactly that. I plan on posting stages of the build, and personally I'm real excited about going this direction. A vintage late 60's FED, all metal with spoked front wheels. Even if the first attempts don't work out, I'll stick with it. We can all learn from mistakes as well.

Got it! The kit rims should be used. They're cut in halves, then placed back on after the wires are affixed.
-
I agree larger scale needs more detailing, plus all of the flaws are even more visible. I'd still need optical help for the smaller parts of a larger scale model. I'm an older type guy and have problems getting away from 1:25. Plus, the walls at my place are crowded from really big historical wooden sailing ships, not much room for bigger type cars.

How to be competitive at contests.

Excellent! I wouldn't be in a contest either, but the info is valuable to make our own cars better. -
Hello guys, I've seen here on the forum info and a tutorial about lacing wire wheels. Has anyone actually done it? I don't get the deal about the rims. I can handle the wiring. How do I do the rims? Anyone? Michael

Brad, he's complaining now. Wait till the first time he turns the wheels sideways! Then it's no looking back. -

I can attest to the great effort that Brad made here. I've used this plan for the last 3 builds. I even glued the front wheels on the axle once. With Z-A-G. -

Joe, what's a kicker? Maybe an additive of sorts? -
Sheena, how about trying some acrylic, water-based paint that's thinned with water and let it creep into the crevices by using a fine brush? Anything that gets at the chrome could be easily removed with a dry brush or something of this nature. Whatcha think? Michael

I'd like to see a pic of the joint or connection that z-a-g didn't hold. Joe, I lied. My whole Fiat was not soldered but Zapped big time. Maybe though, I could be mistaken, and my stuff was a ultra brand new, with a secret formula. Sorry it didn't work for you. -
Very nice Brad, looking good.

"The Georgia Shaker" 1965 Ford Falcon - AMT - 1/25

Hubert Platt had a real nasty Falcon and toured the southern Match Racing scene, I never watched this car though. Several T-Bolts ran often in my area along with Dyno Don vs. Ronnie Sox was something I'd seen several times. I always thought this era race cars with injection and tinted glass was real cool. Nice build going on Safak, looking good! -
Thanks guys for the replies. Good info! Chris, this is some excellent info! I've been wondering why some wheels on race cars are golden-hued. Look here; These are done with Dow 7. I did a search on Dow 7 and up came some fantastic info, which in turn gave me a few ideas on treating the brass on my models. Plus, I found a metal I can use that has a soft gold hue, I'm excited about this! Michael

Hello guys, What are the rear wheels made of? In other words, why are they that color? Anodized? Thanks for looking. Michael
-
That's really a clean looking setup Brad and it'll look fantastic on this car.

It'll work Joe. Brad wouldn't tell us any nonsense. I got on to the stuff from him.
