Those leaves will be sharp looking, good idea! A bit of metal can really spruce up a styrene model. Looking good Joe. -
Collecting Engines, Just Engines and more Engines.

Tom, I can understand why you like to collect motors. Super idea. I have a couple 1:25 built up too just waiting for a frame to put them in. I like the larger scale motors too. Good stuff! -

Is the roof cracked at the rear window? -
It looks like it's already finished. What are you starting to do with it?

Barracuda....Back from the dead

In Europe, the folks who do nothing but attend their Smartphones are called the head down generation. In my old days, head down meant something else. Kids. How about this; I asked recently a younger type teenie girl employee who Martin Luther was? She says he was a black dude that was anti-war. I say no, not Martin Luther King, but the German guy, Martin Luther. He was a bit older. She says, he was Chancellor. Now this is in Germany. I live here. But fact is, kids are not as informed as they used to be. -
Hi Tom....Wow! That is really a cool model, and I'm nuts about the way you present it, paint color, wheels and stance. The look just exudes power and understatement. A real classy model and it comes across absolutely believable and done with good taste. Compliments! Michael

Amen! Nick, I'm with you. I have to get that model. Somewhere there must be the kind of hood to go with it too, or I'll make one. I have one of those cool Revell Parts Pak 427's that's just waiting to be placed between those fenders. Cool car. -

"Jellybean look", how true. American cars may have become somewhat aerodynamic, but they still weigh too much. I think the reincarnated muscle cars look funky because they're too fat looking. Big fat tires, good. Big fat bodies, not good. -

Now there's a lot of Hemis. Looks like that car might have an altered wheelbase. -

Looking good Joe. Anyway, only Chevies can sit side by side. lol. Looks like you don't need a drill press just yet. Every time though I try some evenly spaced drilling I'm thinking too, better get one. Can I have the other Hemi? Those extra slicks lying back there look good too. Michael -
Super clean build. Those small cars I'll bet were a handful to drive. Cool and very clean build.
-
I like it. An injected SBC is the perfect motor for it. Dragsters are just cool.
-
Excellent build! The car looks exactly the way they did back in the day, man they were everywhere too in Europe. Great model you show us! Michael

Hi Tim, Good that you decided to become more active on the forum. Your Corvette looks very nice and super clean, a really solid built model. Congrats! Michael

Hi Carl, I can personally attest that just about any combo was possible back in those days. The exception was with some of the "Special Packages", meaning for instance a Hemi package, or with Dodges "White Hat" specials where a definite motor option and then only just a few body/interior offers available. In other words, if you ordered the car from a dealer, you could get it any way that was listed. Well, almost any way. Lime green with a red interior was not available, as an example. I was a Plymouth Salesman in 1971, used cars too. This was just before my Active Duty. I got the job as an interim before the war days started. Lots of Mopars were sold back then. I personally sold quite a few, and ordered for myself a red/white Duster 340 4sp. Nice car! Ma Mopar delivered quick too and was real happy to please. Michael

Hi Joe, We don't want to see no dang fender wells anyhow. Get them Hemis side by side with some room to breathe and make some room at the firewall for the driver's right boot when fully stretched out. You'll get there. Michael -
Harry....lol. My wife has "found" out new stuff to use around the house too. A couple of tools of mine, a sharp knife, a good magnifying glass, and countless other things that I got tired of looking for. I did find though per chance, her secret stash. Low and behold, all of the goodies in there! Amazing. Lots of my tools and goodies too.

What kind of black wash for ALclad II chrome?

I agree with Rob. If it's not right, wash it off with running water. -

Very impressive looking build. -
Hi Brad, I hope you don't mind me giving in some info as well. As long as you're experimenting, you may want to consider the degree of shine that you've applied to the joints, both the brass and the solder. I've done electroplating and still have a unit (in mothballs though) and we always try to make the same degree of smooth and glossy shine to the object(s) being plated. I've done no nickel plating per se. I can attest to warming the bath up too. More professional units have built in heating elements. Metals involved conduct heat well and it's generally not so much the high temps that are favorable, but the fact that all objects in the bath had the same warmed up temperature. Of course if the manufacturer recommends high temps for your particular unit, then by all means. I would say though both metals of a joint should have a good, and equal shine. Adhesion issues appear when the metal is not smooth. If scratch marks are visible from manipulation, then the metal is not smooth enough. Also, some plating solutions need to have the metal objects pre-treated, some even require submerging the objects in acid. Then another solution to neutralize the acid left on the piece. Then it goes into the plating process. This is just meant as some insight into the plating process, above all, clean and free of skin oils and as clean as possible. Michael

This really turned out great Joe, congrats! Well done and looks super mean and quick.

From what I've read here and from what I understand, the guys who aren't intimidated have experience with the material and have been using it for years. Tell us how it was the 1st time you thought about using it? How old were you? I'm past 60yrs. and I still think twice before building a car that needs the stuff. I'll probably not build anything that needs much of it either. I'd rather at this point do things I feel comfortable with doing. I'm still apprehensive about the tedious feel of to me, new technique.
-
I'm trying to understand exactly what you want to achieve. I noticed you have about 1600 posts and I feel enough info could've been gathered to figure your project out yourself. Grafting a new bumper sounds do-able, and making a suspension fit is done often. "Bending" styrene wheels sounds a bit too adventurous and maybe aftermarket would be the better way to proceed. I have the feeling you're just asking too much of the kit you have at hand, and perhaps better to get one that's more suited to your plans, with more of the parts you want already included.
