Front Engine Dragster: The Old Master
10thumbs replied to ApexSpeed's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Again, cool rides. My next project will be a FED. -
Hi Ray, nice cut. You do these cuts from above? Interesting to see this approach. How do you tap the drill/sink point? My setup is such that I get at these cuts from the side with a sliding carriage. Man, would I like to have a look (and a sniff {woodwork} in your shop) and do some model talk. Got any cool beer? Michael

Life after the purple pond question
10thumbs replied to Againmikewins's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi Jesse, that's interesting. I used German brake fluid on a Lindberg 64 Dodge and the styrene started melting at the windshield pillar. The body cannot be used again as the surface was etched as well. Is there a difference with the DOT numbers? If I recollect, I had DOT 4 brake fluid. -
Life after the purple pond question

Guys, I realize paint stripping is a big theme here, and pages of "what's your favorite" is here to read also. I can soak a painted body in this stuff and all paint is gone in 5 minutes. Did it today too. It does not harm metal, glue or styrene/resin. Dowanol PM. Dow Chemicals. 1 liter costs about $10. Excellent stuff. -
NOMAD WHEELSTANDER - Belated Christmas - 1/13/16

Hi Joe, I had on a 33 Willys build last year issues with the front of the styrene frame with metal attached to the small skinny styrene frame rails. I changed it out several times. I like your method with metal both sides and bolting through the rails. Looks good! -
Hi Brad, those radius rods kick butt! Very nice. You have some fine detailing going on and the sum of these efforts make for a very special build. I enjoy your updates.

Hi Joe, your leaf spring setup looks great. Good stuff! -
I got this from the link;.... "perfect for tying midges and nymphs of all types". Geez, man they get personal.

Thanks Lee. I should've added this would be for American made motors/cars. I do think the real mag wheels look good.

Hi Dave, yes the car would have black crinkle valve covers. -
Flyfishing store....The wife is still laughing. I told her where I was heading Saturday morning. She says that place has been closed for 10 years! Maybe I should go downtown more often. I'll check ebay since I know what size to look for. Thanks Brad.

LOL! Yeah, often the ladies aren't any fun anymore. So, up on the roof again eh? Joe, don't worry about the neighbors either. Christmas decoration will start soon, the kids will think Santa is up there on the roof. Good idea about the asphalt diorama. -
Nice work Brad, that piece will look good in there. Question: Do you know the diameter size for the instrument wiring?

Hi guys, There's a current thread going on now, http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/106708-best-color-for-magnesium-wheels-and-aged-natural-finish-aluminum/, from JTalmage. I'd really like to know which parts on the real cars were actually made from magnesium? I know there were some Dana 60 housings cast in magnesium for Mopar racers, and front and rear wheels. What else? Here's the scoop; I've found a metal that I can cast to make parts and it looks like magnesium! The dull, golden hued wheels I can now re-produce. Good. What other parts were made from magnesium? Thanks, Michael

Really an excellent job on the detailing and the wiring. I've definitely made notes on this.

Brad, aren't you doing the Ford T body? Excellent updates! Great detailing. This is really looking fine.

Looking good Joe! Good paint and detailing, lots of extra parts....good stuff! -
That car, and model are beauties! I especially like the Bantam bodies that aren't so tall. Sleek and trim is my favorite look. You do very clean work.

Kerry, that car is cool. Nice job! Question: What exactly is the "Digger Cuda" chassis? Michael -
Hi Brad, you read my mind. My next post was asking....what on earth are those super fine wires? Yep, there's a fly fishing shop in my small town. 1000th Anniversary next year! Kind of young for this old country. Guess where I'm going Saturday morning!
