Man, oh, man! Those headers are freakin' sweet! I have one of those Dubro benders, too. Nice tool to have. I used a scriber and protractor, and marked mine at 45, 60 and 90 degrees. That gives me a shot at duplicating bends! :-D

'70 Chevelle kit - Revell vs. AMT
Straightliner59 replied to atomicholiday's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I think you're right about the cowl induction bulge. When I was trying to decide which one to use on mine, I ultimately chose to keep the Revell snapper hood. I will likely try the '68's chassis, before I go further, with mine. -

The color combo is excellent! Nice work!

Wow! That's a beautiful Maserati! It appears to be the same one I picked up a few weeks ago. Yours is in...well, there's no comparison. Mine's a bit rough, and sans box. Nice one!

Monogram BADMAN

The odd thing about it, is that Tamiya's "Lavender" is really closer to plum! Now, if somebody was to do one in pink... -
Monogram BADMAN

Thanks, Snake. Here's the thing with springs and me: I hate cleaning up mold lines, so much, that it "feels" easier to me, to scratch them! Looks bitchin', in green! -
Monogram BADMAN
Straightliner59 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's the beginning of mine. It should sit like this. The engine and bellhousing are from the '66 Malibu (Red one), the trans is from the '70. I'll be using Miss Deal's rearend!grin I have a spray can of Tamiya "Lavender" that I'll use to color it, and, I've chosen an appropriate name. I replaced the front chassis clip with Evergreen strip, and I've begun making new leaf springs for it. I may start a build thread for it. -
Monogram BADMAN
Straightliner59 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you want to replace the Badman's rear axle, Miss Deal's is an excellent choice! Since it's so big, it looks right at home, and, it's at least a passable version of a late '50's GM diff. It could use a couple of bumps added, but, otherwise, it looks pretty good. -
Monogram '66 Malibu Street Rat
Straightliner59 replied to Straightliner59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I was wondering what it was, only to decide if I wanted to use it under the Badman I'm working on. Auburn also had a two-speed rear axle. Like I said, I've driven a lot of trucks with two-speeds, but, have discovered they are rare in racing/street car applications. They have infrequently been used, however. Anyway, I discovered a Monogram Talladega in my stash. Can't go too wrong with a Ford 9"! -

Steve, that looks more like it than anything else I've found! -

I don't have one of those. I think the axle in the red kit is actually a two-speed axle, odd as that seems. I've driven plenty of lumber trucks with them, but never seen one in a car! -

I remember hearing or reading somewhere that it's something particular. That section on the rear cover that sticks out has to do with the overdrive unit. It aligns with a section on the front of the housing casting. All that notwithstanding, I'm looking for a diff for the Badman I'm fiddling with, and I don't seem to have an abundance of 1/24 scale pieces. -

Whew! I love that paint job!
-
I can't understand why you'd want to change the paint scheme. Those lace panels are sweet!
-
Hahaha! Nice!
-
In the box, in decent shape, that wouldn't be unreasonable, at all. In this condition? Hahaha!

I should add: the "Hank's Speed Shop" name was a tip of the hat to Hank Borger, who was one of my earliest inspirers.

Scott, I have a bunch of pics I gathered from the interwebs, for an article that used to be on the old SLM website. Tom West, who worked with Jim Keeler to bring that line to be, told his side of the story, regarding the development of Aurora Racing Scenes. I also have a bunch of files of Tom's design drawings from the project. It's one of my favorite series, even though I've never seen more than the two engines and a mechanic and tool box kit. I still have one of each of the engines. I'm rambling! I recognized it, based on the cutouts in the rear window. You may be correct about the rear tires; I am unfamiliar with those kits. I agree...it's pretty saddening. Here are a few of the pics I found, and a couple of Tom's drawings. He gave me permission to publish them, so, I am pretty sure he'd be fine with me sharing them, here. He was a great guy! I hung out with him a couple of different times--one of them was at GSL, in '97. Was a lot of fun!

If you compare it to photos of the Racing Scenes Vega, it becomes apparent that it is, unfortunately, an Aurora body. Oh, well!

Closest thing I have to weedburners are these. They are made from thin-walled plastic tubing made by a company called Contrail Model Aircraft (https://www.scalemates.com/companies/company.php?id=569 ) . I inserted aluminum wire into the tubing to help it keep its shape through the bends.

While there's no doubt it could be fixed, it's just such a waste! The point is that no one will buy it and fix it, therefore it's pretty much ruined. :-)
