Still, anything that's not catalyzed is prone to shrinkage. And he'd still be dealing with the odor of the glue, when it's spread over a larger area. I don't have anyone to complain, here, so I prefer to use a two-part body putty. Milliput, or other epoxy putties don't reek anywhere near the Bondo, or Evercoat!

It really is! Thanks, Jesse! The aroma of wintergreen wafted from the box, when I opened it!? I don't mind the Charger having the opaque body, however. Maybe at some point, they'll figure out a way to mold it in the clear plastic, again.

Epoxy putty is great stuff! I think you'll like it. You can smooth it before it cures, by moistening a finger, and working it like clay.

I have an old jar with a slit cut in the lid that I use dispose of old "sharps". Definitely don't want to throw them straight into the trash! I've been using scalpel blades a lot, the last few years. The first package I bought came with a flat handle. I've grown to like it. I still buy and use X-Acto blades, too, but, for cutting tiny bits of stock, I've found the scalpel blades to be much more efficient.

Yeah, I thought it was cool, but, it certainly wasn't a dealbreaker, that it's now molded in blue. I would likely have painted it, anyway. I think Petty Blue is also known as Basin Street Blue? It's still kinda cool, to have it back around!

The cockpit is done. Finished the butterfly, and got it mounted! I'll have to think some, about what's next. It'll likely be the front of the motor. That way, I can get rid of some more of those loose wires (cables) by hooking up the throttle, shutoff and fuel controls. As always, questions, critiques and comments are welcomed. Thanks for looking!

That's awesome, Jesse! Yes, that would cause an out-of-body experience. It arrived, today! Looks as good as advertised. If I ever get a good opportunity, I'll pick up one of the yellow versions, too. I think it's cool, too. At the time this one listed (it was only there about 2-1/2 hours, before I saw it!), there was an incomplete built one they were asking $190 for. I think I got the built one for about $80, shipped. I also got a 1/16th Petty Charger. It's another of the kits I picked up for sentimental value. Got a nice deal on it, and free shipping. I had one of the originals, when it was released. I also got some Tichy nut/bolt/washer castings. Tichy's castings are the cleanest of all the railroad stuff I have found, and I've used a ton of different ones, over the years.

MPC 1965 Corvette - original kit completed
Straightliner59 replied to MrMiles's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It's been a long time since I cut myself badly, while modeling. In the 1:1 world, sheet metal and I are bitter rivals. Sheet metal has won several battles. I couldn't tell you how many stitches I've gotten, because of sheet metal! Fortunately, I haven't whacked myself with the flashing I use in modeling. Super glue works well for sealing cuts, though. -

That's what super glue's for!? -
Put the foot end of a pantyhose over the vacuum hose nozzle, and vacuum away!

What was your first model car?
Straightliner59 replied to Kit Karson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't recall exactly what it was. I was five or six, and built it in my grandparents' living room, on a folding table. I remember the smell of the old of glue. Best I can guess was that it was the old Monogram Ferrari 275P(?). I remember it being red! It may have been the Aurora Berlinetta. The timeline for either one of those seems about right--'64-'66, somewhere. It would be another several years, before I discovered what a real passion I had for the hobby. -
I feel that way, all the time!?

Wow! That assembly really eats up some space! Looks great, Jim. I'd say you did just fine, with it!

1/25 Revell Peterbilt 359
Straightliner59 replied to cifenet's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Man, it's looking a beauty, Steve. Very nice work, sir! -
It's one I've always wanted, too. It originally came out not too many years after I started building, so, I'm not sure why I never had one, before, because I've always thought it was cool!

When I bought the first one, I had planned to build it as soon as I'd finished my then-current project. I ended up with it in the display case, to await its redo. It's still there, as I went on to other projects. But, hey, it looks good, in there! I'm with you, too. I love the old Monogram kits! I have eight others in there, that I built. Three of those were rescued glue bombs. Several of them, I went a little nuts with! They're great fun, though!

That's a story I am very familiar with! At that scale, though, it almost has to, because it would be easier to talk yourself into doing it, since "I would put that on a 1/25 scale model, so..." Seriously, though, I am glad it did! It's much more interesting to watch, this way.

Thank you, Steve. I appreciate your kind words! I've been enjoying your Peterbilt project, as well. I finally got both rear axle sensors tied down and connected. I made and installed the fittings (engine block end) for the oil filter plumbing, and the oil pressure sensor. Next, I will make the mounting bracket and fittings for the filter. I'm thinking it might be kind of cool, if I can get the block assembly installed, before bedtime, in the morning.

This is one of my all-time favorite kits. Until six years ago, or so, I'd never even owned one. At that time, I acquired an unpainted, (albeit very cleanly) built one. The box is in very nice shape, there are a few extra parts in there, and the model looked nice enough to just put it in my display case, as it was. I didn't feel like I needed another, after all, I have my "grail". Today, I got an email notification that there was a new listing on Ebay. I had to see what outrageous price someone was asking for a built-up version that was not in anywhere near the shape mine's in. I found this--I don't know what etiquette dictates, I've no intent to be rude, but, for $100 plus shipping--I couldn't pass this up! I mean...what a beauty!

Yep! Just right! Your solder joints looks very nice, too. Really liking this project. Thanks for the link--I now have some on the way!

This is really cool. I absolutely love the way it sits! I'm not even a T-Bucket guy. What's your Renshape "analog" called? I wouldn't mind picking up a little. Thanks, Jim. Very nice work, here!
