Double Survivor Resto: AMT '65 & '66 Mustang Fastbacks
magicmustang replied to Snake45's topic in Model Cars
Nice saves Snake. I still have my original AMT '65 Mustang Fastback kit. I built it as a Gas Ronda A/FX car many years ago. Have the original box with all the extra parts if you are in need of some. Love a good save! -
Wow John, great job.

Hemi Under Glass model MPC 1/25. Any good?
magicmustang replied to a topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It builds up okay with a few changes. Some great photos from the Mecum listing:https://www.mecum.com/lots/CH1013-167137/1966-plymouth-barracuda-hurst-hemi-under-glass/ -
Grumpy's Toy IX 1972 Vega rebuild
magicmustang replied to magicmustang's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Yep, but I would have to disassemble it again, so I'll live with it. I believe the engine bay was white and the windshield wipers were deleted, too. Oh well, maybe on the next rebuild! -

Grumpy's Toy IX 1972 Vega rebuild
magicmustang replied to magicmustang's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
The side of the kit box said it was a "small block Chevy 350 engine" but your right, every thing else was incorrect. -
Well, it's has been a while since I looked at some of my old Pro Stock builds. Took out my Grumpy's Toy Vega and had never realized that when I build it in the early 80's that MPC had made several mistakes. The engine was a 350 ci Chevy with an auto trans and Holley 4500 carbs, all wrong. Found a nice 302 (331ci) engine with a 4 speed trans in a '68 Camaro Z/28 kit, added a correct high rise manifold with dual Holley 660 cfm carbs. Found a good set of proper headers. I think it looks better now. Pic shows rebuild with original kit engine next to it. I guess I need to go thru my other Pro Stocks and look for other mistakes.

Got one on the way. Thanks to all. -
Holley 4 bbl carb Which kit?
magicmustang replied to magicmustang's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Great information. I like the one in the Revell '67 Corvette Coupe but no one responded in "Wanted" to trade. Any other kit besides JoHan, as I had two pairs of those but they are in my built '68 Camaro and '70 Maverick Pro Stocks. Thanks for your reply. -
Holley 4 bbl carb Which kit?
magicmustang replied to magicmustang's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yep, looked at those. Not quite it. -
I would say the chassis in the MPC Cougar and Judge are even "Pre" Stage I. Like your pics.
-
I think the Polar lights Mustang FC chassis and tin would serve you well. Correct roll cage, footwells in floorboard, and straight rear frame.
-
The stage II has a different roll cage shape (thinner?), floorboard tin (footwells?) and the frame goes straight back from the rear axle mount verses curved down on the stage I.
-
-
The one shown on the side of the box is the most accurate, but that's not the one inside the box. Inside is a stage I Logghe but Dyno was running a Stage II in late '67 and '68. The later MPC Stage II Logghe is correct but pricy and hard to find. The Polar Lights chassis in their Mustang FC kit is close.

Nope, that's not it either. Thanks for your reply. -
Holley 4 bbl carb Which kit?

I thought that too. I looked in my AMT '66 Nova and my '72 Nova kits, no match. I'm pretty sure it's a newer release. Thanks for the reply. -

Pulled that kit and looked. Nope that's not it. Still looking, thanks. -
Found this great 1/25th 4 bbl carb in my parts box. Am in need of another. Does anyone known what kit it came out of? I sprayed it gold as it was chrome and wouldn't be as clear in a pic. I think this chrome air cleaner went to it, has a offset rectangle internal mount. Maybe a extra display engine in some kit?
