  2. Well the first pic is something like what I was considering. The triangle shaped headlight would look good on a 34 where the grill is angled back, but it does give me some ideas to kick around. The grill/lights on the sedan look like an Edsel was some how involved in the process. Thanks for the response and the ideas.
  3. My current build is full fendered 32 3 window. I am putting in a more modern engine and updating the front & rear suspension. I would like to do something different with the headlights. Something other than the standard round ones. My first thoughts on the tail lights is have red lens cut into the body, maybe all the way across or individual lens cut into the fenders. My google search did not come up with anything for me. Thought I would ask you fine out of the box builders for idea Thanks Jon
  4. I built the High Boy version and also cemented the inner fenders to paint when I painted the body only to discover that it was near impossible to put the interior tub in place. I had to cut the glue out and then re-glue after the tub was installed. Other than that it seemed to fit down alright.

  7. Since the OP poll did not state whether it was for a 28,29,30, 31 or 32 or even a being a Ford , only the style of build. At what point was it change to 30/31 only ? Did the 30/31 A lovers take over this thread ? I what would be the advantage of putting the frame upside down ?
  8. I like E, would change out the wheels and go with chrome reverse with baby moons. Just noticed on A the horns (?) on front of the frame curve upwards instead of down.

  10. The last thing to do was the windshield but I couldn't decide on how to do it. Full, half, leaned back or straight? Then I decided I liked the look of none at all. Did some research and found out that no windshield was not uncommon in the 50's. So left it off. Thanks for all the nice comments
  11. Wife came back from the Thrift store with these. All still sealed in plastic . $4 for both.
  12. Just finished a "fun" build. Started with a AMT "kit in a bag" I bought at a swap meet for $4. It has the molded in driveline and exhaust so I figured I wouldn't spend much time on the underneath. The "Flatty' was a built motor left over from a past project. I wanted to represent a car some guy back in the 50's would build. All available cash was spent on speed parts and none on the chrome and paint. This was something I wanted to put together just to put my thoughts back in the day when Hot Roding started. Not built for contests, just for me.
  13. Not my idea of traditional but what ever floats your boat. Even an ugly kids is loved by someone.
  14. Traditional could be Muscle cars or Tuners depending on the era one grew up in
  15. One thing I keep in mind when I see other builds that are sooooo much better than mine is what someone said to me when I first started learning guitar. "Guys like Eric Clapton are not born with the talent they practice it until they get it the way they want it.
  16. If I can't improve on my work (at least in my mind) on most every build its time to stop and find something else to do. So far at 64 I'm still learning
  17. I agree that the names should be left off the entry slips. And maybe a table set up for builds people want to display but not enter in the contest.
  18. Your right when you say build for yourself. At first I was a bit ticked off . Later I decided not to let it spoil the hobby for me.
  19. I entered my first model this year. After being away from the hobby 30+ years I was inspired by this years theme "cars by Steve Stanford. I chose to try and duplicate this 32 5 Window and spent a lot of time trying to get it right. At the contest there was only one other entry and in my opinion it looked as thou the build had been rushed had some problems and I figured I had a good chance at a mention. I was a bit surprised when the other car received the trophy. The builder that won was a well known local builder and was known by most. I knew about 4 people there. I kinda wonder if it was not so much the build as it was popularity of the builder. I don't want to come off sounding bitter and I could very well be wrong. I know mine was not perfect and use my builds as stepping stones for self improvement. So my question is, do politics play a role in model judging ?
