  1. Well guys, I finally finished it and I have to say, I'm very happy with how it turned out. I don't want to seem immodest, But I really think that if nothing else, it's probably the "prettiest" car in my collection. I'm very happy that I chose the color combination that I did. It really makes it stand out from the crowd. Anyway, all of you that followed the WIP already know what was involved with this project, so I won't bore you with the details, but I just want to send a great big thank you to all of the individuals who either contributed parts or advice on this project. You are all enormous contributors to the success of this model. I thank you with all of my heart! Anyway.......on with the show! Of course, as always, all remarks, criticisms or whatever crosses your mind is welcome. Steve
  2. Check the Under Glass section within the next 20 minutes Kevin. It will be there. Steve
  3. Yeah well, there's always one in the bunch. Steve
  4. I bought 2, built one and would definitely build another. It would be interesting to see the figures on how many of these kits sold. I have a hard time believing it was really a disaster. I don't know any Model car builders that I can think of that didn't spring for at least one of them. Steve
  5. After nearly 6 months of sweat and tears, I've finally finished my AMT 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix project. I can hardly wait to move on to the next one! Steve
  6. I had a buddy in high school that was a Gremlin freak! You would never know it by looking at his large frame and rough looks, but he owned at least a couple of them while in high school and shortly after. As you might imagine, he was the butt of many jokes in school, but I admired him for not caving in to the peer pressure and sticking to his guns. He was especially proud of the Gremlin X "Levis Edition" that he owned. He has since passed on, but I'll always remember him as "Gremlin Marty". Steve
  7. Thanks a bunch guys! Unfortunately, I lied to you about no more updates. I do have a couple more small items that I will add here before shooting some pics and taking this over to the "Under Glass" section. I finally polished the hood last night in preparation for getting some embossing powder on the under side. While in the process of making the antenna, locating an acceptable mirror and adding the PE door locks, I was reminded of a piece that I wanted to address but had forgotten. There should be a brace between the radiator bulkhead and the grille, so I quickly tossed one together, painted it and put it on the model. Now it should be done and ready for a photo shoot. I'll get some pics posted as soon as that happens. Thanks guys!! Steve
  8. At least Revell got close. AMT missed the shape of the rear wheel openings on their '68/'69 B-body cars by a light year! Steve
  9. Bomb or not, I was sure glad that AMT gave us the kit. Steve
  10. Thanks so much everyone! You have all been a huge inspiration and a great support to me during the progression of this build and your comments have been warm, gracious and hugely appreciated! The next time you see this model, it will be "Under Glass". Hallelujah! See you there, and thank you all so much! Steve
  11. Thank you Kevin. It wasn't all that high on my "must have" list, but I thought that as long as I had it, I might as well build a simple curbside from it. Steve
  12. It was modified from one of the Monogram '59 Impala tops. Not my best work, but it'll do. I'm pretty sure that I could do it better if I did it today. Steve
  13. I'm very lucky in this respect. My basement has in floor heat, so in the winter, all that I have to do is set my tub of Super Clean on my shop floor and its warm whenever I need it. Steve
  14. I've seen that some will use a tea strainer to put their small parts in for stripping. I can surely accept that would be a very good idea, but I'm not that sophisticated. Steve
  15. Little car? You do realize that we're talking about a '59 Mercury here, right? I found one of the convertible "Junior Craftsman" versions of this kit some years ago and did to it basically what you stated. Not my favorite car in the world, but it's still kind of cool to have in the collection. Steve
  16. I have the same system. A large plastic storage container for bodies, a medium sized salsa jar for medium parts like bumpers, and a small plastic container, not much larger than a silver dollar in circumference, for the little stuff. Makes things a lot easier to fish out. Steve
  17. I have to tell you Michelle, that is without a doubt the nicest example that I've seen from you to date. Good to see that your skills continue to improve with each piece. Keep up the good work! Steve
  18. I love it!! Mainly because it looks exactly like my shop! Steve
  19. Works just fine for most paints. It can take anywhere from a half an hour to a few days, depending on the paint and how much there is. In the cases where I've soaked them longer than that, it was usually because I forgot about them. I'll let you be the judge on how effective it is. Enamel paint over night. Multiple coats of automotive lacquer and clear, maybe a couple of days. I'm in no bigger hurry than that. I have no issue with any product that people choose to use for whatever purpose that they see fit, but I don't particularly care for it when people claim that their technique or the products that they use are the "only" way, that's all. Steve
  20. Well, I can tell you exactly what Super Clean will do to the plastic.........nothing. I've used it for many years and have soaked parts in it for weeks at a time. Won't hurt the plastic at all.......guaranteed. Steve
  21. Thanks so much guys!! I'm getting pretty excited about finishing this one up and getting it in "Under Glass", but it might be a few days yet. I had to order some PE door locks a few days ago and it might be a little while before they get here, and I don't want to post it in all of it's glory until it's 100% finished. But I will say that to this point I'm very pleased with how it's turning out. In the mean time, I'll give you a few teaser pics of where I'm at presently. Steve
  22. Thanks guys! Assembly is continuing. The sun visors and dome light are in the body. Ready for glass. I also finished up adding the head lights to the front bumper and finished the grille halves. Chugging along. Steve
  23. Seriously. I would cut it up and use it for various things. Hopefully they let you keep it. I'll bet you would find that it would come in very handy. Steve
  24. You can always do a "let's see your" thread. These type of threads probably irritate some members, but you just start a new thread in the "Under Glass" section titled, "Let's see your 1969 Dodge Charger builds", or something along those lines, and people will generally be more than happy to post photos of their models. Steve
