I stopped in the HL in Kannapolis NC today and they had 2 cans each of the gray and white primers. $10.99 before my coupon. They also had a bunch of models marked down 40% on clearance, so I picked up another Ford Van and was tempted to get a couple of others before the voices in my head said NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just speculating here John but if someone doesn't submit pictures and information on the show, they can't run em! That said, you going to the next CKM show on August 24th?

1964 Chevy Suburban from 2011

Nice story and great scratchbuild! If you hadn't said so, I would have sworn that was either a resin kit or styrene conversion. Not sure if you are aware of it but there is a model show coming up next month near you, Foothills Plastic Pros I believe. -

The scratchbuilding and weathering on this model is incredible! The amount of realism is unbelievable and if I didn't know better, I would swear that was a real 1:1 truck! -

A short cancer update if you're interested...
mikemodeler replied to Terry Sumner's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Terry, Sorry to hear the news but keep in mind that modern medicine has made a lot of advances and no two people are the same when it comes to treatment and recovery. Let's hope your doctor gave you a "worst case scenario" and the actual news on the day of your surgery is much better! You have a big supportive family here Terry and we are all hoping for the best outcome for you and your family. Let us know what we can do to help you get through this and we will be there for you! Take care and God Bless! -
Craig, My deepest condolences on the passing of your wife Lisa. She sounds like the perfect wife, one who supports her spouse's hobby and encourages him in his pursuit of it. Please take the time to reflect on your happy times together and let those carry you through these coming days as you grieve. In due time you will find your way back to the hobby and we will be here for you. Let us know if we can help you. God Bless.

Keep in mind that Don and Carol started their business back before selling on the internet was common and they sold strictly at shows or mail order. It was enough work for them to just get orders out and put together their catalog and supplements, let alone taking pictures and adding to the cost of producing a catalog. Keep in mind a lot of their items are made to order and they don't always have everything sitting on a shelf, so getting pictures isn't easy. If Don thought he needed to add pictures to sell more product, I am sure he would find a way to do so. Much like Norm at Replicas and Miniatures, he has established his business as being one of the best in terms of service and quality of product and a picture catalog will only distract from the core of his business- casting resin. I will never hesitate to buy from them, they have always treated me well.

Great topic! It would be nice to have some of the industry veterans chime in, especially given the advances in recent years in rapid prototyping. I remember interviewing for a product manager's job at Revell in the mid 90s and as it was explained to me then, there was a lot of work in researching and measuring the subject matter before submitting it to the engineering department to begin a scale buck. Didn't get the job, someone with airplane background did, but it was interesting seeing the inner workings of Revell and how models were developed, along with meeting some of hobby's longtime product people like Ed Sexton, Roger Harney and a few others.

Would you pay for a premium membership
mikemodeler replied to martinfan5's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Gregg mentioned in a post that it was about $3,000 to fix the latest problem with the forum. Considering the frugal nature of most of us when it comes to paying for something we have previously received for free, a nominal charge for being here could go a long way towards helping Gregg with the costs involved. If it comes down to paying for this forum to enjoy it, then we all have to decide if we want to. If there is a decent sized core group of members here who use the forum regularly, then the cost would be small. Like anything else that has a fee, there has to be some benefit to the cost and maybe that can be factored into the cost. -
Do you only buy new releases
mikemodeler replied to greymack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like Lee, it comes down to subject matter and not necessarily the age of the kit for me. As a mostly musclecar and light truck builder, I have new releases and old kits among my stash! -

Another great one in the works, I could be interested in a resin copy too!
