  1. They did have a moment of silence for Chris before today's race, a nice tribute for a man who spent his life covering all types of motorsports. The racing world also lost Bob Newton, the founder of Hoosier Tire, this past week. He and his wife started their operation in an Indiana barn back in the 50s and at one time was giving Goodyear a run for the money supplying tires to NASCAR. Many a short track, Saturday night racer is aware of the impact Hoosier Tire has had on the racing world.
  2. Thanks for sharing Len, looking forward to another one of your detailed documented builds.
  3. I think he meant you could give us pointers, not US pointers. I am not sure we can offer any tips or tricks, you have done a great job and that truck looks great. Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum.
  4. While everyone likes a bargain, not knowing much about that motor may make it more expensive in the long run. The motor Aaron pointed out has been around for ages and is easy to get another should something go wrong with it, whereas the "freebie" is probably long out of production and once you design your booth around it, you would have to make changes if the motor doesn't last. Bottom line- do what you can afford to do but if given the choice- I would go with the new motor and be done with it. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum and show us your booth when you get it ready.
  5. Experience, the best teacher they say! You will get it figured out and be casting in no time. What is it that you are casting?
  6. Taking the measurements are the first step in designing a model. 24 months is probably a safe estimate considering all they have to create to make an accurate representation, unless they cheat and use parts from the Regal or Monte kits, like the chassis or modify interiors or bodies. Nice to hear some long awaited kits could be coming our way. Interested to see what else is coming! Funny how Olds is out of business and NOW we start getting kits of them! What's next, Plymouths and Pontiacs?????
  7. I voted "other" because they all have something different about them that makes them equal in my eyes. Whether it be an engine, wheels, or just the look when they are completed, I like them all. If I were to have a 1:1, it would be hard because I like the way they all look and I don't know if I could make up my mind to choose just one!
  8. Just as important as the sizes, what wheels will fit these tires? I have bought some resin tires only to struggle to find wheels that will fit them or go with the theme of the kit I am building. Very interested in the size you list (235/60/15) as well as some large rears for some street rod projects. Let us know when these will be available to order!
  9. Best of luck to you Frank in your venture, I hope you are successful. If there is one thing most of us will agree on, it is that we do not have enough choices when it comes to wheels and tires- whether it be a set of custom or stock replacements.
  10. John "Records" Landecker, Fred Winston, Larry Lujack (good Ol' Uncle Lar and Lil' snot nose Tommy), Bob Sirott, and others that I am forgetting!
  11. Any one remember "boogie check"?
  12. Good looking build! Did you have trouble putting the mirrors together on this? I could never get the mirrors to glue together and stay on the vans i built.
  13. I am lucky in that my wife was able to bring home some boxes that are slightly larger than a typical model kit box. The kit fits in nicely and I try to wrap the kit in bubble wrap and/or tuck some newspaper into the box to keep the kit from moving around. I use USPS and have found that they tend to not crush boxes as bad as UPS. I have not heard any complaints about my packaging so I will guess that it is working!
  14. Me thinks Harry wants one for the ol' Real or Model Contest! Very nice diecast, white is not a common color seen on those cars.
  15. The UPS guy just dropped off my sweepstakes winning Tom Daniels Kit, Bad Medicine, that the folks at Kalmbach sent me for ordering the SA Contest 2012 issue. Apparently they drew random names and gave away some kits, nice to win something! A couple of years ago I did an online survey with them and a month later I got a new airbrush from them, another random drawing win! Probably going to hold on to this and offer it up for trade when some new releases come out.
  16. I keep mine in a nice, climate controlled area and I suggest you send them to me for safe keeping! I will allow visitation and can send one to you as you need them, no charge! (Cuz I am nice guy!) I have mine in the garage here in Charlotte and while it gets about 100 degrees or so out there, I have not seen any issues with them. The only problem I have found is that they tend to reproduce in the warmer weather as I have more kits now than I did last spring!
  17. Very nice Doc, I like the red more than the yellow, I guess cuz it is more of what I would build. Makes me want to get some work time at the bench!
  18. I am sure that these trade shows have lost a lot of meaning as Dave pointed out because of ability to post it on the web and reach a wide audience, not to mention the costs involved.
  19. So true Gary! I am happy that we are getting models that have been on wish lists for years, sure hope Revell has more great news next month when they announce their 2013 releases!
  20. For a minute there Doc I thought it was the former ballplayer from the Pittsburgh Pirates! Looking forward to his work!
  21. This was not one of Monogram's better moments in kit making. Like Jordan says, the details are lacking and by today's standards the model is somewhat crude. That being said, I would like to have one as I drove one in my teenage years working at a car dealership and it was a source of fun.
  22. This is what I have done for the last 15 years. I categorize them and use the filter function to sort them in several different ways to identify duplicates, kits that are opened vs. sealed, sell vs. keep, etc.
  23. What if we all chip in and get you a bus ticket and some vouchers for meals, would you consider going then????? Just kidding Gerry, you have contributed alot over the years here with your pictures, whether it is a 1:1 car show, a model car show or the iHobby show and I for one do appreciate it! Hopefully there is another modeler from the Cleveland area that will go and give us a report on what is happening.
  24. Bronco II was a Ranger based SUV from 1984-89, discontinued due to rollover issues and the arrival of the larger Explorer. The first generation Bronco, 1966-77 model years, has not been kitted to date but several resin casters have offered them over the years. Blue Oval Resin has a transkit available, the only current one on the market. Rumors persist of another resin caster possibly looking to bring a complete kit to market and it is among many modelers wish list for kit manufacturers to tool up.
  25. I forgot that the 1:1 was a 70, but if I remember correctly, the kit in question had a 71 or 72 in the box, did it not?
