  1. I have that kit around here somewhere, never got around to finishing it but I just might! To make that truck in stock 4wd form, a little kit bashing and a resin piece will get you there. The LRE, as mentioned, has the rear end and you can pick up the front axle, transfer case & leaf springs in resin from Dencon Resin to do a stock 4wd conversion of this kit. I might have enough pieces/parts to cobble together a truck in stock form and if I do, I might see if it could be casted by a resin caster.
  2. Okay Don, 1 down and the rest of your builds to go! Looks good and it will only get better as you do more of them, I know because I have seen the improvement in my BMF skills. The 50's and 60's era cars are the best to work on with BMF as they have a bunch of chrome work to do and I think you should tackle a '57 Chevy or Caddy next! Keep at it, you will get better at it!
  3. I think I will buy a couple of these just because of the 8 lightbars alone! I am not a huge police car builder but something about the Charger appeals to me, don't know what it is! Hard to believe that in this age of kits that we will have 8 lightbars!
  4. Don, Take your time, don't try to do it all at once. I often take up to a week or more to BMF a car because I tend to stress out over it and I suspect your fear might cause the same issue. I waited a long time to finally BMF my models and now that I have, I enjoy the look of them when they are done. I have about 4 or 5 models that are at that stage and that is what is holding them back from being in the display cases! As a wise man once said......Patience Grasshopper!
  5. George, The problem is most likely with the way the mag gets feed thru their sorting machines at the PO. I agree that it is a shame that GB has to send replacement copies and it adds to the cost but at least they are willing to do that. IIRC when I requested replacement copies they were sent in an envelope so they didn't get shredded a second time! It has been discussed on here countless times before that the paper that MCM is printed on may play a part in the damages that occur to it. Speaking for myself, very rarely do any of my other magazines show up with any damage on them compared to MCM and I believe it may be due to the difference in the paper material used by Golden Bell Press.
  6. Hopefully I will see my issue here soon but I am convinced they pass it around the post office before putting it in my mailbox! Sounds like some good articles in it, can't wait to hold it in my hands.
  7. As has been stated a no chrome kit appeals to a small bunch of modelers in the hobby. Start producing kits without chrome, especially those that should have chrome pieces, and you lose me as a customer. I have neither the time nor the desire to master the art of spraying Alcad because someone wants to offer a new kit with "chrome delete". A better question would be "How many of the new Mobieus Lonestar kits will you buy if you have to do your own chroming?" Me? NONE! Besides, I have 300 kits yet to build so if it were to come to be, I would be busy for quite some time before I buy another kit.
  8. I am with Stasch, if you have a distributor in the US I would be interested. I liked the video and they look simple enough to use.
  9. Allan, Find some old chrome pieces to experiment on, that is what is typically done to a grille to give it some depth. It can also be used to give parts a weathered look, like on an engine or wheels for example. You can buy a product from The Detailer to do a wash on or use some thinned black paint or ink to do it yourself. The key is to practice on scrap pieces first to master the skill and the consistency of the wash. Look around here and keep asking questions, a very helpful bunch is here. Welcome to the forum!
  10. Thanks for the update George, hopefully enough phone calls and prayers would be enough to lift his spirits. Can you get us an address for the Nursing Home so we could send him some pictures or cards? I doubt he has alot of interesting stuff to read there! Maybe we could send him some magazines (car related ONLY! ) as a means to lift him up. Thanks again.
  11. Sounds like he is on the mend and I am glad to hear that he is out of the hospital. Get well soon Ed!
  12. Tower Hobbies has this kit for $18.49 plus shipping. It is listed under Monogram and has the black car on the box cover. Check out their website and I think you will find some other items that you may need and then the shipping is spread over several items and is easier to accept. Keep in mind that UPS and FedEx recently raised their rates as the higher fuel prices have forced them to pass along higher costs!
  13. Jon, You are probably thinking about the NY Toy show. Google it and see if that is what you are thinking of. In the past the model companies would announce some releases there that may not have been ready for the iHobby show in Chicago in November. I am not sure that the model companies go to the NY Toy show as the cost vs. benefit might be too great. In the internet age, we usually know about new releases before they can be published in a magazine.
  14. I just got home from the Midwest (nice snow piles you got there Harry ! ) and #154 was among the mail. Not sure which day it was received (doesn't matter at this point) and my only complaint is that the bottom right hand corners of the pages were tattered (sha-doobie) and the magazine was a little beat up. Got a quick scan done while waiting for the compuker to boot up and download 5 days of emails (ugh, I'll be up late) and looks like a good read is coming. Like the midget article as I just bought one of the Edelbrock midgets.
  15. As a long time and very satisified customer, I would tell anyone to have confidence in ordering from Don and Carol. If you know what you are looking for, and they have it listed in their catalog, then rest assured it will be right coming from The Modelhaus. Pictures are nice but when you consider the vast amount of product they offer, it could take someone quite awhile to take pictures and post them online for us to see. I would rather they keep up with orders than to spend the time posting pictures.
  16. AAM had some of the best resin pieces around in the day but they are out of business. The former owner is a member here and is a wealth of information about the hobby and many things automotive related. A wise person once told me that if I find something in resin that interests me, I should buy it as there are no promises it will be available later. That is the case with AAM as I had the chance to buy some of their items back in the day and always told myself "next month I will get that order in" and alas I waited too long!
  17. A couple of weeks back Ed Shaver relayed he and his wife were having some health issues, does anyone have any updates? I hope and pray that things are getting better for them and Ed will be back here soon. Thanks in advance for any news.
  18. C'mon Charlie, you got the driveway cleared, now get back to the bench and get that thing finished! Looking good, can't wait for the next installment of your build. Mike
  19. Mark, I am digging this and I really appreciate the how-to to do it ourselves. While buying a resin piece could be easier, the way you showed how you mated the two kits together really makes this look like a simple project. I have two ideas in my head for this prototype- a COPO version and a ProTouring version. I think the COPO would use the standard grille and the ProTouring would use the RS grille with the hideaway headlamps. I really prefer the hideaway headlamps from the 67/68 Camaros over the 69 but keeping with the theme, I guess the 69 grille would be the one to use. Can't wait to see some progress on this, you got it done yet?
  20. Shucky, why doesn't she have a shovel in her hand? Looks like if you rev up the engine in the car and put it into reverse, you could get half way down the driveway before you would get stuck! I am supposed to head to Milwaukee tomorrow, not sure if the flight is still on but I will find out in the morning. It was 64 degrees here today in the Charlotte area, although we are supposed to see the temps drop and some rain move in later this week.
  21. I wish I could agree but alas, the USPS has yet to deliver mine. I got excited seeing it at a hobby shop the other day and almost bought it (jonesing that baddddddddd!) but had confidence that it would be waiting for me when I got home today, but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! (sorry,I just channeled John Belushi there for a moment!). I did pick up a copy of Fine Scale Modeler as some mentioned in the chat room that it had an article about resin casting that was very helpful. I plan to read it on the airplane tomorrow and with any luck, my MCM will be waiting for me when I return next week.
  22. A pleasant reminder why I moved South nearly 6 years ago! The only bad thing is that I am scheduled to arrive in Milwaukee tomorrow afternoon, provided the airline is going to stick to the original flight itinerary! Gotta go see if I still have some winter gear to take back home with me. Thanks for the pix Gerry!
  23. Cato, I had called GBP several weeks ago and was told that the magazine was on the press and that it was shipping soon. I failed to post that information but the reality is that the magazine is late, again, and it will be that way until Gregg & Co. get caught up and make changes to the process. Thank you for sharing your information that you were able to get from the office at GBP as it is encouraging to hear the December issue is going to be right behind the November issue. With the February issue being a contest issue, it could be possible for MCM to be back on track soon. I just hope that my copy is waiting for me when I get home later this week but I won't hold my breath as my mailman must read it before he delivers it.
  24. Harry, The mere mention of snow down here in Charlotte results in mass bedlam at the grocery stores and school cancellations because it MIGHT snow! I remember my days at Jewel Foods back in the 80's when we would get hit because of a snow storm, hard work but fun to watch the customers reactions!
  25. I'll bite and go with the flow and say real. Interesting subject matter, can't wait to find out whether I am correct.
