1934 Ford truck (Boom & Deck)

There was an explosion here last night which shook houses all over town and was heard for several miles around. It turns out a gas leak in someone's garage ignited and blew the garage to smithereens , damaging the neighbor's which was adjacent. You should have seen the flurry of speculation on facebook. Apparently no one was hurt.

Logging near Sudbury during the forties
landman replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In the caption that was with the photos they said that the horses brought the wood out from the cutting strips one at a time. Once at the landing, several were hooked up to a ruck which pulled them to a rail siding where the wood was transferred to flat cars which took it to the mill. -

Cut up the pill bottle I was using to store my toothpicks & micro brushes. The halves will become fenders. -
And now the young'uns think they're cool with large diameter wheels and rubber band tires.

Excellent on all points.

This is a truck shown with a load of newsprint at the Iroquois Falls mill about 100 miles from here. I read Pierce on the grille. Did Pierce Arrow make trucks?

No Carl. It was part of the MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) family of engines which replaced the y-Block.they went from 383-410-430-462. this is the 430 from the Orange Crate kit. It has Y-block valve covers for some reason.

One thing leads to another. Since I don't have a spare tire to match the truck's wheels I decided to use the well and stand to locate the boosting battery and its cables. Those pliers will become the clamps. And, since the cables will be permanently attached to the battery, I had to come up with a shutoff switch on one of them. I made the cables about 8 feet, they should be long enough to reach most applications yet still manageable. -

I've come to a decision. It will be a continuation on the theme "Ford with a Lincoln engine", the 34 with a 430. As for the '48 Continental, I may be able to do a curbside and park it beside the '41 I already have, or get a junkyard '41 and use the wheels and engine from it. There was a thread here of one apparently quite good built by Jeff Sauber. However all photos have disappeared.

That is correct and the car in the first photo is it. If he didn't own it as is suggested here, it was that car which inspired him to write this in response to another race song.

I wasn't planning on a replica of the original, just a play on the theme using either the 34 Ford or the 48 Lincoln.

I have been sorting stuff out and filling parts bin. In the box of the Tall T I used for the '25 Dodge project, there is a 430 Lincoln engine with a couple of intake options including the Latham blower. I started wondering where I could use that. Now we all know that the real Hot Rod Lincoln (from the song) is a Ford with a Lincoln engine. It turns out I have the remains of a Ford coupe , parts of which went into my '34 Chevy. So I thought a '34 Ford with a 430 would make a neat Hot Rod Lincoln. But then I also have a '48 Continental which would take some serious work to turn into a replica of the real thing, but what if I stuck that 430 in it? That would be a Hot Rod Lincoln too wouldn't it? And then who cares about its lumpy engine and featureless wheels ? the matter is officially open to discussion.

The kit's boom is likely based on this. I cobbled Mark's Manley with the kit's boom. This is the setup I'll use to wind the cable after painting.
