  1. Years ago I had built a 1951 Chevy which I never liked. Nothing fit, it was never right. I want to use it to put in the restoration bay of my diorama which is an engine rebuilding shop with a small restoration business attached. I plan to show the bare frame before it is cleaned up and sandblasted. I'm looking for ideas on how to go about showing a grimy unrestored frame.
  2. That is Ontario licence plate blue. I had a couple of cans mixed to restore some plates in my collection. I'm using the rest as my FTB fleet color.
  3. I'll be 65 in August. I started in the 50's when my uncle gave me four or five WWII fighters, Spitfire. Mustang, Messerschmitt, Zero and I can't think of the other one. Next came the 1939/40 Ford kit and hundreds following that.A truck period in the 70's. Classic cars in the latter part. I built pretty well throughout my life with a few dry spells. The last 2000-2014 was the longest. I was on the road a lot and I built models in my hotel room to stay out of the bars .
  4. Neat. That is quite the engine.
  5. Thanks but it looks like it will be difficult to get the paint to stay on them. Opening them will show the brass.
  6. Went to get the primed body in the garage this morning to sand it and add some filler as required. Dropped the grille/fender assembly on the floor. Had to put it back together.
  7. Does that chrome smudge like Alclad does when you handle it? This is turning into a lovely brute.
  8. It is from a GMC Astro and I got it on eBay, from Spaulding.
  9. I thought I'd be just about ready to prime the cab today, but nooo....I had to add something else. An attempt at the cowl side grilles. Micromesh, wire & half round. Now I've succeeded in giving myself a few more hours of puttying & sanding.
  10. Hey Rob, it looks like sanding 101 times got everything smooth. You are well on your way.
  11. I'm pretty sure they have them at The Hobby House in Ottawa. info@hobbyhouse.ca
  12. Nice work. I bet that would be quite the ride!
  13. Little stuff tonight. Exhaust stack support, rain caps, quarter fenders, turn signals, rear mudgards. All of it will need touch ups of course.
  14. When i packed up my models about 12 years ago I wrapped them in Saran wrap so that any part falling off would stay with it. Baaad move/ almopst all of them are marked. Of course they were in there a dozen years at least.
  15. Now ain't that purty! It is going straight to my reference library.
  16. Working on the exhaust stack support.
  17. Absolutely gorgeous!
  18. Carl, are the Supertest decals available?
  19. Thanks guys. I'll look into those.
  20. I feel for you. I moved 5 times over the years. So I wish you the best, no hiccups, evrything smooth like clockwork.
  21. All this cutting and putting back together had an undesirable side effect. I suspect the location of the hinges on the grille created a gap between the trailing edge of the fender and the cab, necessitating moving the cab ahead. This left the wheels in the wrong location inside the fenders. So I cheated and moved the axle ahead too. Just don't tell anyone. The fuse block/junction box looked silly without wires so I added some. While this and the putty was drying on the body, I started looking at the stacks. I think I'll make a small headache rack to support them. These are the very tall stacks from the Snap kit. I'm tempted tp plagiarize Dan and go with short ones. But then again, this truck will pull a trailer full of valuable classics. Perhaps the tall stacks will prevent "soiling" of the cars. What do you guys think?
  22. Thanks guys. Lots to come yet. Hope you'll enjoy it.
