This is the rig of a local man who had it painted like this to honor his son killed in Afghanistan. https://www.facebook.com/lemondeducaminnage.1/photos/pcb.425484704287243/425484450953935/?type=1&theater

Ford Race Car Hauler
landman replied to landman's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Paint is my weakest point as a modeller. It has always been a frustrating, messy, difficult part of the job. And of course, it is what people see first. I painted my '67 Mustang at least twice.before I got it right. -

Taped the body together and mounted the frame in it to "study" the various exhaust routing possibilities. One scenario would be to turn 90º to the bottom of the battery box and exit there. At first I thought It would be neat to cancel the first compartment door and go through it. But I assume that leads to the batteries. So it would have to go under the lip. A second scenario would be to mount the stacks together under the lip and bring the piping to them. A third one would be more "racer-like" would be to come out at an angle with big-bore pipes. And a fourth easy one( not to say lazy) would be to dump straight down from the ends of the mufflers. -

Removed the piping from the mufflers and drilled them out for 1/8 tubing. Made some exhaust pipes out of that. Added a second channel to support the mufflers. -

Took a run at painting the cab Ontario Licence Plate Blue (Far right in post #63). Of all times for the rattle can to start acting up. Tried to salvage it using the other can I have. Should have used it first. The second photo shows what I thought of the results. What are the steps to clean up the brake fluid? Purple Power again? -
I built that kit years ago along with the Formal Sedan. I had the convertible apart with the intention of restoring it but it seems to have disappeared. So I will redo the formal sedan instead. I didn't remember the spark plug wires otherwise I would not have commented.
-
Thanks Harry, are you sure you didn't add spark plug wires? Everything you see in these photos is from the kit with the exception of the windshield, which I cut from Lexan to replace the kit piece, which had a swirl in the plastic.
-
Harry, what type of brush do you use? Wide/thin, skinny, pointy?

landman replied to Hessel Hemstra's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hessel, I saw Ostende on one of the posters for that fantastic show. So I'm pretty sure that is where the Jaguar LSR ran. Just an aside. You were in the same neighborhood as that historic event. And again, I wouldn't want to be a judge at a show like that. The quality is mind boggling. Congrats. 1949[edit] 132.596 mph (213.393 km/h) through the flying mile: in May, Jaguar demonstrated an XK120 roadster to the press on the high-speed autoroute between Jabbeke and Aeltre in Belgium. The road was closed for the occasion. The white left-hand drive car, chassis number 670002, was the second XK120 built. Jaguar's development engineer Walter Hassan was to have driven but fell ill, so Jaguar test-driver Ron "Soapy" Sutton substituted. With hood and sidescreens erected, and the airflow under the car improved by the addition of a full-length aluminium undertray, the Jaguar was timed through the flying mile by the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium at 126.448 mph (203.498 km/h). With hood, sidescreens and windscreen removed, a metal airflow deflector fitted in front of the driver, and a tonneau cover fastened over the passenger side of the cockpit the speed improved to 132.596 mph (213.393 km/h). The Observer's Book of Automobiles said it was the fastest production car in the world.[17] -

Richard, I think Dan has made all the wiring to the front clip "Quick disconnect" and the front clip itself is removeable to facilitate servicing. -

Installed the completed engine in the chassis along with the radiator. Had to carve at the other side of the front crossmember to clear the air compressor this time. With everyting in place I'll be able to invert it and figure out an exhaust system. Started on the interior and the wheels as well. -

I had given it a good wash with Simple Green. But this time around I soaked it in Purple Power and it worked a lot better. It is back in primer. -

The engine is pretty well done. The instructions show a heat riser but it wasn't in the parts I bought. If the air cleaner proves to be too tall, I can always cut it down or fab some remote installation. As for the exhaust, I'll try to fab something like a Nascar exhaust in larger diameter, likely a drinking straw. I will need to cancel one of the storage compartments and make a nice oblong hole for the pipes, sorta like a Mercedes SLR. An I thought I had cleaned up that resin body thoroughly. Go figure. -
A new garage door opener. This is taking me away from my modelling bench. I suppose chores must still get done.

Beautiful work Josh. How do you keep stuff so neat? My cutting mat looks like a pigsty compared to yours. -

I just had another idea. I was to shorten the longer exhaust pipe so it came out between the cab & body to install the kit's stacks. But the way they are, I could rotate one of them and have both exhaust come out the side à la Nascar. What do you guys think? -
What did you see on the road today?

Sorta like huge decals that envelop the car. -

Had to test Photobucket. It no longer lets me just click on the Img. link, I have to highlight & copy. The photo above shows the notch I made to the front crossmember to clear the oil filter. Also modified the exhaust pipes to fit the 534. Shortened the rise on both, the run on one and made recesses in the ends to hook on to the manifolds. Almost ready to mount the engine. -

There are wrapped ones here, GN's test cars. There was a Corvette-like car running around in a black & white paisley pattern this winter. Some are checker, others zebra, all black & white. Sometimes it seems like it isn't enough camouflage, so they stick bras on both ends. Of course, I never have a camera when I spot them. -

Mark, I'm using the slotted wheels that came with the resin body along with the hubs & backs from the hauler kit. See post #4. Mark, I'm using the slotted wheels that came with the resin body along with the hubs & backs from the hauler kit. See post #4.
