  1. I have one of these in black, I bought at the local toy show CHEAP two or three years ago. I think I only paid $3 or $5 for it.
  2. [voice of Forged in Fire's Doug Marcaia] Okay, let's talk about your Impala model here. [/voice] Top to bottom: Two different screenshots of the AMT Impala; the Real Deal; Green Light 1/24 diecast. One detail: Looks like maybe they've altered the front fender tip "slots" from 4 (standard) to 3 (optional light package, as seen on the TV car). Or am I seeing things? Discuss.
  3. I hereby declare that "'68 Coronet" is now officially the "Free Bird!" of this forum.
  4. Very cool! Due to Modern Family, I can no longer see one of these without hearing Sofia Vergara gushing over Billy Dee Williams' and saying, "In my village, you could not call yourself a drug lord unless you had one of these."
  5. That's still a pretty decent kit for its age. I remember watching the show but I don't remember the Cobra. I might not have been into cars yet at that point. Didn't she have some oddball cat as a pet, like an ocelot or something? I seem to remember she always wore black turtlenecks.
  6. Dunno, but AMT did a 1/25 C4 snapper. I built one.
  7. I'm with you and Alexis. Hey, I'd love to see one too, and in fact I have a Modelhaus resin repro patiently waiting its turn in the Snakepit, but I'm tired of reading about it. Yes, it's wanted, even needed. And no, Round 2 isn't gonna make one. Nor will Revell anytime soon. Buy a resin (someone else does them too, now) and build it, or come up with something else to obsess about, just for a change.
  8. You're expecting common sense from anyone in the 21st Century American education system? Really?
  9. Hmmm, I'll have to research that. I know it was molded in silver. It was also billed as 1/24, which is very rare for a Revell and led me to believe that it was developed from the Callaway.
  10. Testor Little Bottle Orange is a near perfect match for Chevy Engine Orange. Hugger Orange is just a slight bit redder, but should be acceptable. I wouldn't lose much if any sleep over it.
  11. It's definitely the best one I've seen, and it only barely qualified as "marginal/acceptable." If I ever come across one with a really good green paint job, I'll grab it and send this one down the road.
  12. In these pix, the Maisto car is charcoal gray and the Motor Max is candy green. I bought the Maisto as a kit at Hobby Lobby (with 40% off coupon) and the Motor Max at Walmart. As far as shape, external detailing, and overall “look,” there’s very little that differentiates these two models. Both look like a late-model Camaro to me. Seeing both sitting on the table, one could easily think that they both came out of the same mold. The Maisto has an opening hood, with a one-piece plate representing some engine detailing. The Motor Max hood is closed solid. The Maisto’s interior is slightly more detailed, mainly due to the tiny stickers that you install yourself. The Maisto kit came with two sets of wheels, one set silver, one set black. I used the silvers just to brighten up the otherwise dark model a bit. On my two examples, the paint finish of the Maisto is superior. The Motor Max’s candy green has some slight “ghosting” around panel lines, and a little dust. So far I’ve seen four or five of these Motor Maxes in this color and this was far and away the best of them, though not perfect. The others had significant “ghosting” and thin spots and areas that looked a bit like runs. I would NOT order one of these over the internet; I would only buy this color after examining the example in person. Motor Maxes I’ve seen in other colors don’t have this problem, just the candy green ones. Both models are available in several different colors. Which is better? If you don’t care about the underhood detail of the Maisto, there’s little difference between them and I’d say you could make your selection based on color, price, or easy availability. I just happened to buy the Maisto first, and only bought the Motor Max because I kind of collect and build green car models and I liked the color of this one. If I’d bought it first, I wouldn’t have also bought the Maisto. Very little Snake-Fu was needed on these. I think all I did on the Maisto was sand the tire treads. The Motor Max needed only tread sanding, some clear red (Sharpie) over the rear side marker lights (which were painted orange/amber), and some black inside the tailpipes.
  13. I don't care if they have to tie it to Baby Yoda, I'd buy one or more. But it still won't happen.
  14. Sadly, we're a couple years too late. There's pretty much no gas left in WD world at this point--evidently only enough for Darryl's motorcycle.
  15. Hey, bud, I just did all I could afford to lighten your load and free up some space for you. The box arrived today, BTW. Haven't had time to open it yet but I'm sure everything's fine.
  16. Not bad. But don't waste your time developing a new series, just get one made the iconic car on The Walking Dead. Think I'm kidding? Colt just brought back the super-expensive Colt Python .357 revolver, which they discontinued over a decade ago. The TWD hero, Rick Grimes, carried one for eight seasons.
  17. Jangus, I have a Surf Woody that I'm not planning to use the Paxtons on. I'd be glad to send them to you, if they'll work. The setup is for a small block ford and looks like this: https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/show-rods/amt-surf-woody/untitled-scanned-03.html#media I am planning to use the kit intake manifold and carbs, but can let you have the belt/pulleys, lower support, blowers, blower backs, blower hoses, and pressure pots. Email me if you're interested: SnakeACP45 at AOL dot com.
  18. Very nice! The old crock builds up pretty well, doesn't it? Model on!
  19. And that's not the half of it! That flip front end fits only slightly better than the one in the MPC '57 Vette gasser, which is to say, not at all! I ended up gluing the thing on solid and then cutting the hood away separately, and the whole front end now looks 100% better. And I've still got a LOT of work to do on the wretched backbirth!
  20. I think the best you could hope for there would be the topless AWB funny car. I think you can buy a resin '64 Cutlass several different places. Pretty sure MCW has one, and I know they have a '65, as I bought one last year.
  21. Naw, haven't been looking for '64s, just '65s, and I scored a couple. This resin one is marked R&R 1994 inside the trunk. No shrinkage, warpage, or deformity and it's 25 years old. There are two or three places offering resin '64 Chevelles if I ever want one, but no one I know is currently offering a '65.
  22. Great score on what was evidently a Holy Grail kit for you, Mike. I love happy ending stories!
  23. Thanks for all the ideas, friends! I've considered them all. Several of them would work great with slightly larger holes, or with styrene. I don't think I have the skill to pull them off on this particular job, though. At the moment I'm thinking of sharpening a toothpick to a pin point and trying to work some Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Glue into the holes. It's water-soluble and easily worked (and removed) until it dries. I might be able to get it very close to filling the holes, and if it shrinks a little--well, if I go with foil for the chrome (I use cheap kitchen foil, not BMF), the imperfectly filled pinholes might look like common dents in the trim. Which wouldn't be out of character on a Day 2 or '70s street cruiser vibe. We'll see what happens.
  24. By coincidence, just yesterday I also received an old '65 GTO in this very box. The headlights are of course MUCH better than any reissue. The rear panel/bumper also appears to be better than the reissues, and the original taillights look and fit MUCH better than the reissues, although I was surprised to see they didn't include even a hint or attempt at the thin chrome strips of the real thing; they're plain, like a '65 Tempest or LeMans. Oh well. The body on mine is perfect and has never been painted, EXCEPT the top has been glued on badly. There's severe damage to the windshield top piece, and it looks like someone tried to pry the roof back off at the rear and broke part of the lower part off on the right side. This wouldn't be a big deal to fix except it's molded with a vinyl top texture, which I'd kinda like to use. Oh well, I'll figger out some way to improvise, adapt, and overcome. Might even replace the whole body with a new reissue one, or at least the windshield frame. We'll see what happens. Interestingly, most of the original kit custom parts seem to be here, which I don't believe have been included in the kit for some time. Maybe I'll build a custom on a common junk reissue body.
