Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My latest haul of Toy Show Glue Bombs. AMT '32 Vicky, '80s issue molded in silver. Missing headlights and grille insert but otherwise complete. Looks like it should respond to a Snake-Fu beatdown. '34 Ford--AMT '90s issue? Very complete except for headlight lenses. Haven't taken it apart so I don't know yet if it was molded in blue or is just VERY cleanly applied blue paint, but there's blue everywhere you can see (i.e., no white or gray). Another quick Snake-Fu flip. Needs bigger tires on the rear, though. Can do easy. MPC '57 Chevy flip-nose. Complete except for headers and taillights. Looks like a good candidate to try something I've been wanting to do for some time: Graft in sections from a Revell HT body (which has a crushed roof) to correct the side trim and wheel openings. If that doesn't work, I'll just clean all the trim off the sides and then maybe alter the wheelbase, just for the helluvit. Good cheap project. MPC '57 Corvette. All the parts to complete are in the plastic baggie behind it, but there's NO amount of Snake-Fu that can bring this one back. All I need here, though, is the body itself, which will go on one of the flip-nose gasser kits I have (which has a WRETCHED HORRID DREADFUL BACKBIRTH of a 2-piece body). These 1-piece bodies are getting harder to find, and I consider this one well worth the $6 I paid for the thing. The good wheels and tires and whatever else I can salvage from it are just gravy! AMT '62 Corvette dragster. Been a while since I've seen a better candidate for a full-on Snake-Fu rehab workout, a la the MPC '66 Vette gasser I recently showed here. The decals are in bad shape and will have to go, but I think I can save the purplish maroon paint. The hood lump just screams Modified Production, and I'm thinking the tunnel-ram BBC from an AMT '72 Nova will find a natural home under it. Can hardly wait to start on this one! -
Here's the Vega funny and the Mustang promo. As I mentioned, between this one and the red '65 promo I already have, I can get together one good all-red promo. The leftovers will be used for a street cruiser or maybe late '60s high school hot rod.

What are your Bucket List Kits?

The Valiant exists. I have the grille/bumpers/headlights from one (acquired in a bag of random parts). And yes, I have plans for it. -
Lindberg '34 Ford Roadster Pickup Update #1
Snake45 replied to Dragonhawk1066's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very cool! I've recently bought a couple of these old Lindberg crocks and am looking forward to working on them. Drive on! -
I love that swirly blue plastic! If it were mine, I'd polish that plastic up and build it that way.

Walmart Color Place Primer--Get It When/While You Can!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
They call it "fast dry enamel." I thought it might actually be lacquer, but I primed my '65 Chevelle wagon with it and painted it with some kind of rattlecan blue lacquer that didn't give me the look I wanted. I stripped the body by putting it in a tub of rubbing alcohol, which took the blue right off and left the primer intact and clean. So I guess it's not lacquer. -

It's stood up to everything I've thrown at it, including Duplicolor and Rustoleum. But I can't guarantee you won't find something that will eat it for lunch. -
Looks like you did okay with what you had to work with. Not a factory color so it's a phantom all the way, and not a bad looking one at that! Well done!

Round 2/AMT Plymouth Prowler Concept Car Snap-It
Snake45 replied to Joe Handley's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Then my work here is done. -
Bought this at a toy show for $5 or $3, I don't remember which--a guy was selling a HUGE collection of Corvette promos, diecasts (all scales), and a few builtup kits, cheap. Too bad I'm not into 1/18 as he had several VERY nice ones at VERY cheap prices. I already had one of these in solid red, but fell in love with this burnt orange/rust/brick red color. Not a lot of Snake-Fu to do on this one. Sanded tire treads, brushed wheel spokes with decanted Krylon Satin Clear, did some detail work on front park lights/turn signals. Both the front and rear side marker lights were in a sort of copper or goldish color, so I did the fronts in amber and the rears in Clear Red Acryl. This is another car that I like, but not enough to spend $20-$30 on a kit and 30-40 hours building, painting, and polishing it. Couple hours work tops, $5--on the shelf, DONE!

Wow, that's pretty much my definition of The Perfect Hot Rod.

Sweet! I'll probably order several sets. These look good on almost everything.

Round 2/AMT Plymouth Prowler Concept Car Snap-It
Snake45 replied to Joe Handley's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I ended up painting everything on mine except the body (which I polished). Mine doesn't seem to have front fender gaps. Are you sure you have them on the right sides, and in the right holes? I remember things got a little confusing for me up there for a minute figgering out what goes where. -
Help me understand the NHRA classes for an old Gasser
Snake45 replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Looking at the 1965 rulebook, it looks like G/G (5.00 to 10.99 #/ci) and H/G (11.00+ #/ci) are for "non-supercharged pre-1960 flathead V-8s, in-line 6 cylinder and straight 8 engines with stock production-type heads." -
Very nice! We don't see nearly enough Javelins here. Well done and model on!
-
They're separate chrome pieces, like the fender gills originally were. Of course they look nothing like real '68 Vette door handles.
-
Very cool project! And you just gave me a great idea. I've been wanting to do a '49 Ford gasser but have been undecided on what engine to put in it (don't wanna use the kit engine). Gonna use a 409 and call the thing "The 4 (0) 9er". Thanks!

Looking good! Drive on!

Doesn't look like it would be to hard to make a camper top out of sheet styrene. Design your own! You can make it better...faster...stronger! You could make it (wait for it)...... THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR VAN! -
Is Photobucket dead or under maintenance?

My avatar is back up over there, so I guess PB is running again for a minute. -

I just noticed my avatar is missing on another board, which means PB is down. It was fine all day. -
True, but not as much as last week's, when Rotator just destroyed Icewave and HUGE got broken completely in two for the second time (after starting the season VERY strong). And I never DREAMED I would see Bronco get so thoroughly pwned as it was by Whiplash. That kid did an AWESOME job with that! I'd have never guessed in a million years that BiteForce would take the whole tournament. That thing just seemed to fly under my radar all season, quietly winning without much fanfare. One to watch next year, though! Saddest robot of the year: Chomp. Its only weapon was a spike-hammer thing that seemed to be mounted on some old Erector Set parts. I don't think it did any damage to any other bot all year. All it had going for it was its self-righting AI programming, which seemed to get an awful lot of use every bout. Several of the robots shot flames, but I don't think flames were any kind of factor in any match I saw. Several bots caught fire, but from internal causes, not from being burned from a foe. I assume the rules prohibit the bots from dispensing a burning liquid like napalm. Now THAT would do some damage! (Come to think of it, the rules must prohibit shooting water, too--that would seem to be an effective weapon.) I can hardly WAIT for this to start again!
