  1. Don't mention that it's a diecast, just post it there and see what happens. BTW, have you noticed that resin models never get kicked down here? They're apparently perfectly welcome in Under Glass.
  2. Looking good! I'm liking your gold paint more the more I look at it. I gotta paint something that way soon!
  3. I appreciate the thought, but please, don't go to the trouble. I've decided that turbo's just not right for this build, and it's just a glue bomb resto anyway, certainly not worth using any rare parts on.
  4. Very cool! I like to do this kind of thing myself (though I seldom go as far with disassembly as you have) and will be following. You're making me want to get one of these. You bring up a great point about some things being available in diecast that you can't get in a plastic kit. When someone works some modeling skills on one of these things, I don't know why they're not welcome up in the Under Glass section, but the mods always kick them down here to Diecast Ghetto, where I don't think that many people look that often.
  5. The one I built was blue (first issue). I think I have another blue one in the stash. I know I have two or three white ones, too. One will be an organ donor for an El Camino conversion. Front disk brakes are correct (optional) for a '67 Chevelle. I think that was the first year front disks were available on everything in the Chevy line (except maybe Corvair) and Chevy made a big deal of it. All the new car brochures that year featured disk brakes, illustrated by Rally Wheels, and, interestingly the Rally Wheels were black, not silver. I don't believe I ever saw black Rally Wheels in real life, so I don't know if they ever actually built and shipped any that way.
  6. I finished a model today that's been sitting on the Shelf of Doom and mocking me since about 1992. Boo-yah! Take that, you styrene devil!
  7. That Revell '67 Chevelle is a sweet kit. I built one when they first came out (early '90s?) and remember it as having no problems whatsoever. I've got a few more in the stash--maybe it's about time to do another one.
  8. What a clean build! Well done and model on!
  9. Very interesting! Now take the Revell Ford body and put it on the DD Fiat altered frame and build an Altered out of it!
  10. What you seem to have here is a SS/RS 396. There's no Z/28 in there at all. Nice paint, though. Very smooth, although I can't figure our what's going on above the left front side marker light.
  11. There are many delusional people on eBay. Some are buying; more are trying to sell.
  12. Appreciate the offer, but I think it would be a little high-tech for what I have in mind.
  13. Oh, and remember: If your plastic polish job doesn't turn out the way you had in mind, you can always go ahead and paint the thing as normal!
  14. Local toy show. They moved it this month to a much larger venue. Many more dealers, many more goers, LOT more Star Wars and comics and D&D junk. My favorite glue bomb vendor wasn't there, not too many model kits at all. I did score a Revell "60s VW Beetle" unbuilt kit for $5, just so I didn't go home empty-handed. I've long wanted to whack off the back end of one of these and build a stakebed truck like one I saw in an ancient Rod & Custom mag many many years ago. Maybe now's the time!
  15. Me too and me too. If I'd had ANY idea that this would become contentious, I'd have NEVER mentioned turbos in the OP. I'm sorry.
  16. Absolutely beautiful work! Well done and model on!
  17. Monogram did a '70 Pace Car, too, but in 1/24. I knew immediately that this wasn't that because the Mono kit has the sunroof. In other words, you probably don't want Monogram decals for this MPC kit, as they won't fit. I had a real '79 Mustang Pace Car. 302/auto. Only new car I've ever owned, or probably ever will, at this point. What a pig it was. I have a Monogram kit, which I got about half-built back in the day, and then the decals got ruined for some reason and I lost interest in it. Good luck with your build. These were sharp LOOKING cars, anyway, even if they couldn't get out of their own way. I look forward to seeing your resto/rebuild.
  18. And, all too soon, will be voting. We are doomed.
  19. Okay, rather than getting into fights and/or tedious techno-talk about turbos, I'll just take turbo off the table. It's just a little "out there" for the build I have in mind anyway. But I appreciate the efforts. The 2x4 manifold in the '67 Chevelle Pro Street is looking better and better. But I'm still intrigued by the 3x2 idea, and I'm sure I have some of those on hand from either AMT or Revell '67 Corvettes. Was this really a "hot setup" for the street in the late '70s? (Even if not, it might be just oddball enough to work really well on this particular build.)
  20. All valid points. You have to like/want the molded color, and the plastic has to be pretty opaque to avoid the "plasticy" look. And then there's the problem with swirls in metallic plastics. I'm working on a green-molded '70 Camaro that had a deep "sink dent" right in the middle of the roof. I was able to carefully block-sand it all down flush and am driving on. Here's a way to maybe fill some other kinds of flaws. I used embossing powder here because black is black, but the trick should also work with sandings, filings, or shavings from the same colored plastic as your body.
  21. A '67 Chevelle would be Marina Blue. LeMans Blue would be a '68-'69 Color. I start by scribing out all the door lines etc, and knocking down mold lines and the panel line "dams" with very fine sandpaper. I've never used any kind of special "plastic polish" products, just Wright's Silver Cream silver polish and Trim Nail sticks, both from Walmart. The nail sticks work great and fast but won't get into all areas on all models (and Walmart hasn't had them for several months now). I buy white felt squares in the crafts section and cut them into 1" strips and use those to apply and rub the Wright's. Final buff is with an old flannel shirt. Don't have time this morning to post a lot of pics, but lemme see if I can find a couple on my hard drive real quick for you.
  22. Very interesting, thanks for the details. I appreciate the time you put into this.
  23. I don't believe the Revell B-M '70 Chevelle had a different intake from the regular SS454 kit, but if it did, it would be 1/24 anyway and probably not fit a 1/25 engine. But you've given me the idea to see what intake's in the AMT '70 B-M Camaro. The car I'm building is a '72, but the timeframe I'm building for is late '70s/early '80s (and it will be showing a bit of wear and tear*), so the Tarantula would work if I can find one. *Think along the lines of the Farm Truck on Street Outlaws--not a beater but far from pristine.
  24. Fabulous! I thought the first pic was a real car you'd used for reference.
