Practicing silver soldering continued....making a Bugatti front cowling and attached firewall
More pinpoint flux application with syringe. Solder goes to heat and sticks where the flux has 'etched' the metal of it's oxide layers.
So more precise flux should mean a cleaner joint and less clean up...in theory
Metal base with magnets and a heavy bending tool to hold everything stable.
That is important for me as I can't seem to hold parts, flame and add the solder at the same time...just not co-ordinated enough
Here I could just fire in the torch from the front and watch for the solder to shine, puddle and flow
Firewall soldered to the formed cowling, sanded and blended joint
Took a couple tries to get the entire seam covered, but it did
Still not an easy process, but much better when my parts fit together and are stable
