Great topic, following along; like to see something other than red Superb engine build so far I think I have one of these in my stash too
-
That red looks good, she is going to be beautiful! Had a little air brush brain fart myself by adding the wrong diluent and spraying waaaay too much pressure. Three coats and nothing would stay on the body?!?!?! Grabbed a rattle can and had it done in 30 sec...sometimes old school ways work fine

Airplane Engines in Autos
Twokidsnosleep replied to Twokidsnosleep's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So my Fiat kit that inspired this thread arrived yesterday after work.....it is a beauty! Italeri seem like they have done a good job in putting it together with multiple coloured sprues, a little plastic bin for screws etc and an instruction pamphlet I am on this old car kick at the moment, so this fits in nicely the other little bags are detail stuff for other cars...rivets, joints, seat belts that kind of stuff Loving how they packed this up; separate bags for sprues, body in plastic and a little protected cardboard box. It reminds me of how Pocher packaged the Alfa...maybe even a little better Anyways, this is the kit that had me start this thread, so here she is on my living room floor -
Okeee fine, just making sure
-
DO we post the build thread info here only or start each kit's own thread????
-
Oh dude I totally took that as a joke, just poking some fun back at you

If you are in the South East Asian Hemisphere all those arrows would line up and point you to Shangri-La http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shangri-La Ya, I kinda freaked out at the clear as mud instructions in my kit too

Hey Greg, Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate that! I feel my work is very basic compared to others but I am just posting along recording what I did so I can review it and get better the next time. Cheers, Scott

Hey, no worries man! Keep plugging away, but take your time as well. I spoil my stuff getting anxious to finish too soon It is a great build you are showing, seriously

Absolutely! The banter and side tracks are what makes it interesting and worthwhile to post your WIP stuff...then everyone learns and wins Does it take that much time to show us a bit of the how?? How much time is spent setting up the Photo Booth and playing with the white balance etc etc to take that beauty shot? We are all busy. But some responders are right, some want to show just the what they do and not the how.....fine understood I don't think anyone needs to freak out over not building fast enough for others....just keep us in the loop with a quick note and follow through on your thread I read a how to thread on making decals from a few years ago that bailed out after part II.....then nothing, it ends; dude falls off the face of the earth

I was thinking and doing the same last night....other than finishing my kit and cleaning up! Had the F40 parts and instructions out and noticed mostly Japanese writing. I have a patient who is a translator, but the modelling jargon may get lost in translation. Hope to get moving soon on it, not allowing two builds at once on the bench

Your pictures are light years ahead of most of us....especially mine Great work on this car and close to my heart.....my first was an '89 Civic Si Might just have to modify the fujimi kit and make her. I think I will fire up the Ferrari and join in here when I finish my MG; more fun building in a group and getting motivation that way. Just need to finish!!!

post your homemade tools for building!

This is the hard drive out of a dead computer Around here we drop old computers off at a recycling depot and they are sent to Asia to be gutted Wise to destroy the hard drive so not readable, but I found it makes an excellent turntable for painting, working and displaying. I add the small round wheel as a "step up" and then glue a larger base on top In this case a chunk of recycled ply from an old shelf at work The painting clip glued on the stick is an underwear clip from a new pair of ginch....those plastic alligator clips are awesome Thus you can do a diorama and spin it around as you work.....while your puppy watches -
Sign Painters One Shot Enamel
Twokidsnosleep replied to jwrass's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thanks Ray, it is an amazing art form. I got a techniques book that is a good starter and goes through all the basics of brushes, lodging, paints design etc. I agree lots of practice is needed, going to take some time to even get half decent. Thanks for the encouragement bud, Scott -
Ok smarty pants you asked for it! Just another of the same shot to bore your socks off, but this time everything not lying on the grass is glued on! Oops, forgot to paint the brass steering column first...that was a late night goof up and when I decided to stop My magnifier/holder man has his hands up in surrender...or maybe he's saying "WTF, finish it already"

A Whole Day of Modelling That is something very rare, but happened today....with research, dog walks and meals interspersed No cleaning, shopping, errands or nothing, just a rare treat of working on a model car So I got quite a bit done; some major assembly with body, fenders and interior together and cemented to the frame. Have been working on hooking up all the little bits and wires. I added a magneto and its wiring, oil lines, fuel line to my fuel pump(single one now) some fake wiring to tail lights as well I have a bit of a hard time in the engine bay as no parts are labelled in the instructions and some of the bits I cannot ID from my book or the Internet. These are old cars and lots of mods also occur. Getting a bit ansy to just slap the last stuff in and call her done, but I am unhappy with the dash still and can't put in the steering column until the dash is in. So I will pace myself, slow down and finish it off right. No pics, she looks the same as all those dry fit shots I have been boring everyone with. Later, Scott

You gotta post to lean no matter what skill level and Skip is right that there are too many people who start something and then bail out without any notice of why. If they posted where they were having trouble, they might have learned something and finished the build I am not so S-hot either and there are some great guys here who point me in the right direction and I love the banter with modellers of any skill level with a different or new view on how to do stuff. Here to learn and get better. There are some who seemingly want only their ego's stroked and show no 'how to's' just pretty pictures that we are to fawn and drool over...and don't get me wrong, they have fabulous work, but no info on how to get there in our own work. I guess some show competition types don't want to share trade secrets. I see that attitude on many internet sites I participate in from my professional ones, woodworking, leatherworking etc. I respect people who actually show and tell how they do stuff...Harry P is a great example of one who shares a ton of info in his great builds, I have learned tons from him by osmosis! Rant ended

Wow, the computer gods are against me this AM with both laptop and ipad crashing on me on photobucket So I have also been working away on the two dashboards I made. Harry P did a little how to on this in one of his Big Boy builds so hats off to him for helping, merci! I found the kit decals for the dials pathetic so went to the internet to search the TC's dials. They are beautiful analogue works of art- Jaeger dials I took this dial and shrunk it down and overexposed it to brighten it up, then through trial and error printed out the little dials until I got a couple close in size. White glued the paper to thin styrene sheet (Evergreen) and then white glued a bit of plastic cut with an appropriately sized hole punch. Cut it all out and dry fitted them in. I need to diddle with the exposure and saturation still to get all the dials to match, but getting close. My computer at the office is the best one to use as the home printer sucks and slows me down The process is shown in the picture below moving left to right Close up of the pear wood dash.....need to match those dials a bit better; the spedo on the left looks better than the washed out tach on the right. Look at that vs the kit decals though..yikes! C'est tout pour maintenant Scott

Saturday Morning Miscellaneous Ramblings.....remember those articles in Road and Track?? The past week I worked on a steering system out of brass and aluminum. Not going to solder it as my soldering sucks so will be CA glued Also got in mail from Las Vegas some ID tabs for my builds. This will look good for the little diorama I have planned for the MG
