Whats the weirdest kit in your stash?
mr68gts replied to mustang1989's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I may have to find that one! lol -
I miss my model room...... I can't wait till we have a home again! At this point I'd be happy with living in the 5th wheel trailer lol. One thing about model rooms or corners is they can always be changed up to suit ones needs at a given point if your flexible with your area. I have some ideas for my next one when we purchase our next house to make it easier to use. Not so much with the pegboard but I would like to be able to organize my scratch building material for example. I had started buying up all the evergreen sizes of various shapes I could find since at the time I wasn't near any kind of hobby shop. The addition of a lathe and or mill takes up much usable space and must be a consideration when purchasing such things. Part of my problem was that my model room also served as a 2nd guest room so there was a bed in there along with everything else lol. And the father in law was usually the one who stayed in that room when he would come to visit so I had all my models in the closet or on shelves I hung up around the perimeter of the room. It worked quite handily for what I needed but I really needed more space as there were also a couple of antique sewing machines in there also taking up space next to the model desk. Hopefully If I can find a nice 4 bedroom house I can confiscate one of the rooms for the sole purpose of the model room and no longer have antiques and a darn bed in there with me! Yes, much more organization will be in order for the next model room! Paul

Dyno Don Funny car coming next year 2018
mr68gts replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I built the Beswick GTO and the chassis took TONS of clean up and moderate patience to build. I used the main floor board as the squaring tool to fixture the chassis until the glue dried on the cross member. I am on mobile on the road or I'd post a picture of how it turned out. With enough time and patience they do come out prettt decent and even though not completely 100% accurate for the model, they represent a Logghe chassis and that is what most people look for. -

The original decals were simular to slixxs but not as good quality. (Obviously) If someone isn't yanking out chains, it is nice to see this one back even though I have an unbuilt mint original. -
Tim, This model is WAY beyond impressive and there are probably no words not already said that could be thought of from me lol. Definitely like the wing. I think it finishes off the car. I would assume a stationary pivot up front and a hiem joint assembly in the rear? Looking forward to your next update! Paul

Should have had someone hold his beer...

Small World...

In my opinion I would salvage it as best you can. I am sure much of the parts and paints would still be able to be located. -
When I raced bmx my rims were barely a little over an inch wide. Bmx rims would be closer to scale than any 10 speed/mountain bike rim. (Wrong diameters) unless thkse are badly scaled.

My 2 chow mix dogs that I had would lay down in the model room on occasion. Dixie my female Black Lab/ Rottweiler mix (all 89 lbs of her!) will generally come in tossing some toy in the air so I will stop and play with her for a minute before she kills something on the desk and then she leaves content. Once in a while she will just lay down next to me. Last night was the squeaky raccoon. She LOVES her squeaky toys ha ha. Patches my male cat that I had would lay in the model boxes. Shelby my female cat used to like Evergreen plastic. Wouldn't mess with anything else but the evergreen. Go figure. lol

coming in clear over here

I haven't had many problems with the computer running win7. Have you tried contacting them and letting them know what's up? Might be something they need to repair.

What you refer to is a Vertex Magneto. The cap has 8 holes placed in the side of the cap. The wires still go to each terminal, they are just arranged inside the cap with terminals and secured with screws to the terminals inside. Firing orders are still the same as that is determined by the crank and cam cycles. There generally is no coil on a vertex mag but companies offered conversions to run one sperate from the internal generator. Tip, DO NOT rotate a mag in your hand and touch the terminals. Most being self energizing with shock the unholy H. E double hockey stick out of ya! There are or have been conversion caps for this style of magneto to run normal style external terminal wires.

When trying to upload pics from my phone to the site I always get an error. I haven't tried since the newest update however.

LN8000 transporter updated 11/19
mr68gts replied to mr68gts's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Breaking out the supersized penny to show the door striker bolts that I managed to machine finally. Had to part them off the bar by hand with a razor saw while being mounted in the lathe then turn them around in the chuck, grabbing them by the post and machining the other side. They are simply too small to do any other way. I literally machined them with my 10x Optivisor on lol! What to do now.... hmmm.... Maybe try my hand at a latch of some sort to coincide with the bolt. I will probably epoxy magnets into the doors and behind the post to keep it closed provided I can find some small enough to make it happen. At this scale I am not even going to attempt working handles. I am going to make the hinges from brass however as I can get better strength from the brass. -
I can redraw the pattern to the revell rims if you need me to. Or Brad can just make one up since he would have to draw it anyway copying revells as a template.

Thank you guys! I've been trying my hand at machining the door striker pins for this but they are so small that I may not be able to do them. (at least with my lathe anyway) I may have to make them out of music wire and brass tube from Albion though. I am going to give it one more shot on the lathe and see what I can make happen. Paul -
No problem. I should have mentioned that this is one half of the rim. Do it in pairs. Offset the spoke pattern when you glue it down and done. I have always wanted to try real wire wheels and I have an idea for it but it is going to take some doing in 25th scale
-
Here's a pattern I made up this morning if someone wants to print it out so you can try to "lace" your own wheels. You can blow it up to what ever scale you are doing. This pattern was done to a 18 inch dragster style wheel with 36 spoke. I may try my hand at some of the Borrani style wheels later. I know they are several different rows of spokes but even that shouldn't be too hard.
-
I'd probably be good for a couple sets depending on price.

Not coming up on mobile

These were actually done using the old Straightline Modeler method that is no longer available online sadly. Quite labor intensive as you clean up the rings. build hub halves from scratch and lay individual spokes made up of .010 round stock from Plastistruct following a pattern laid down. Works pretty good but they are extremely fragile!

mr68gts replied to mr68gts's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thank ya brotha! Pretty nice to be able to concentrate on this now that we are all moved out. I finished up the spacer and the scoop this morning so onto the oil pump I go! I will holler at you this weekend if your going to be around. Paul -

Tim, thanks, sometimes it gets a bit busy lol. Little bit of an update. Got some time on the computer finally! Managed to get the hat spacer almost done. (i need to move the top foward lip out more to match up with the scoops flange.) Oil pump is next. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I can put in an order at Shapeways for these parts. I think that's all that is left of the engine parts anyway! Paul -
