STOCK CAR HOOD/TRUNK “TIE DOWNS”
stitchdup replied to CaddyDaddy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
the tie downs look to be motorbike inner tube or maybe even seatbelt cord in this pic. for inner tube i'd just use some black wire sleeving -
Guess I'll try this here (Need help with old Harley parts)
stitchdup replied to Monty's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
join specialist clubs for each model. if anybody knows where to get parts its those folks. also if they were exported and sold by harley, try those countries as a dealer network should have parts. were military versions made? if so those guys also hoard parts. ask at shows, wear signs on your shirt at shows or anywhere theres a load of similar interest folks. searching abroad is probably your best bet, harleys are more a weekend toy on this side of the pond but there are loads of them in europe and lots of support. germany, belgium or italy might be a good start, thats where most of the ones i see are registered -
Paint compatibility
stitchdup replied to Camaro lover's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
if your on a budget a cheap airbrush, thinners and dollar store nail varnish will save you money on paint. an airbrush might seem expensive but how much is a can of paint? 6 tins of paint can get a starter set with a compressor but i'd look in he $120 rangefor a set that has a tank and pressure gauge. the vast majority of nail varnish is just thick auto acrylic paint anyway. -
i find it easier to pump some onto scraps and then brush it. work fast and fairly wet and do it all at once as it wont touch up nicely. if it goes wrong you need to clean it off before recoating as it will soften the previous layer.

i'd check the ingredients for silicones. When i worked in bodyshops we never used any turtle wax products as they were guarenteed to cause reactions. I'm not saying dont use it, just dot use it near where your building/painting as once its dry the polish dust spreads widely due to the very fine grains. Since you've already polished, a detailer spray might be more effective

1/25 Tucker 48/Torpedo -- "Coming Soon" at SpotModel

manufacturing was much more labour intensive during ww2. during that time it took a factory full of staff to make a toy, now i can set my printer running and carry on with my day. all i have to do is pour some gloop and press a button. also a lot of what was made in ww2 didn't make it to europe so much more was needing made to make up for that and that needs raw materials so toys and civilian (i believe farm tractors and some haulage were exempt from this) tyres are among the first to disappear. all that tin from the toys kept our boys fed in spam and corn beef tins -

i really like how they did the printed parts, the frame around them is such a simple idea but will save a lot of broken parts. plus it looks very professional and just kinda cool. -
i've got the big parts painted but its in the middle of being polished for the third time. in the meantime the weather has improved and its warm enough to print again so i printed some lowrider parts. unfortunately the wheels are too small so i've got a larger set printing now, but some of the other parts will work

its a big country (same sizea s texas) and the stuff they are producing is all exported. the farmers are still planting grains too. as it happens all the peppers and lettuce in my local supermarket is from israel and they're also at war. business carries on if it can as getting foreign money from exports buys more weapons than they would get if the product was sold local. then its not really making money but more moving it around. and local currency is worth less if the countries at war so any way to raise foreign cash helps as its a more stable currency. -
have fat man steering wheels been in any kits? or does any aftermarket suppliers make one? I'm building a bomb style lowrider and i'd like to use one if they're available

Help With 1/5 Scale Model Details
stitchdup replied to James Shiels's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
is there a tabletop gaming club at your school? for games like warhammer or simlar fantasy games that use models? it could be worth asking those guys for a little help. they paint their own models, use a lot of metal tones and being a school theres most likely a club. good luck, your design looks pretty cool -
i haven't heard of it before. i'll have a look and see if i can find it somewhere. just found it on youtube https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=james+may+big+trouble+in+model+britain

use one of the online uk number plate suppliers(the registation plate is often called a number plate on this side of the pond0 and they will generate a pic of how your plate will look. just save the pic and print it on decal or photo paper. this one seems good. https://numberplates4you.com/vintage-number-plates-vintage-registration-plates/
