  1. for 3d printed parts i place the part on a sponge, then pour a little boiling water directly from the kettle over them. if you only do a little at a time and work slowly it works. if you try and do large areas it tends to not go well and you run the risk of distorting areas you didn't want to. be sure and cool the parts completely before reheating, it seems to work better than only heating and holds the shape better. i tend to have water in the fridge for cooling the parts. it also matters how long ago the part was printed, the more recent the print, the more sucessful you will be. older prints will still reshape, it just means working a bit slower again. you dont want to do too much at one time as thats when cracks appear
  2. homologation rules were interpreted very differently at lancia among others
  3. not just yet, i was away for a car show and delayed waiting for stronger glasses but they're here now.
  4. every band had one of these, it was the reason british bands started using larger drum sets on tour
  5. While at first these 2 dont look too mean, during the 60s thru to the mid 80s if you saw these 2 being driven fast, theres an extremely high probability theres just been a bank robbery and about to be a vehicle fire. So being the gangsters favourites must qualify them as mean faced. only the petrol transit qualifies though, the diesel was a bit of a dog but ford gave them a different front so you didn't steal the wrong van
  6. I asked them for some of their vw rims in modern sizes. they were happy to do them for me and it only took a week longer for them to arrive.
  7. that capri has a cosworth v6 in it with a manual box,
  8. the lagondas travelled up from the mainland, and about a dozen cars came up from orkney. The ferry was full every day from tuesday thru friday but that included ordinary cars and stuff too. maybe up to half were local cars
  9. unfortunatelly war is very profittable, there is always and will always be war because humans cant get along and always find the things that divide them as opposed to things that link them as one race. whether it politics or religion or whatever else there is always division. Once the higher up politicians and world "leaders"(lol) learn how to communicate on an even footing things might change but one side always has to have the upper hand. the division is created as they know theres more of us than them so since they own the media they push the division as that keeps them in power and power is a much more dangerous drug than anything an addict uses
  10. I find more enjoyment from the building than the finished article. Many times I've been pretty far along with something then i competely change direction with it. My terraplane has been a 5 window, then a 3 window , back to a 5 window, then a ute and now its sitting halfway between a 5 window coupe and a ute. Thats just one build, theres loads more but some i have to be in the mood to work on and I'm quite happy to add more wips to the bench. Sometimes i get a bit down about not finishing a build but that just means shake a tamiya box. I am hopeful to get a few finished over the next few months as i am displaying at the vintage show in august and they want a few anniversary cars (cars with anniversaries this year, not special editions) to suit their themes. I'm sure I'll start a few more too in the time frame and i still have to start my cannonball car but at least the kit is close to the bench now and i have the parts looked out ready but i dont think it will be ready enough to display at the show. And i still have to fix all the ones i took last year as every one of them got damaged.
  11. there were a few lagondas at the show today. The owner of the black one lives local to me and when i said i was getting pics for building a model bentley with a similar looking suspension he invited me to visit him after september as he has a bentley blower too and a few other similar cars. He was very keen for me to visit to get more pics of his other cars so I'm looking forward to this visit. If anybody needs any detail shots i can get those at the same time.
  12. I got to sit in the 36 woody today and i was so happy about it i completely forget to get any pics of the interior. Both the woodies are british built so there are a few differences from your ones. The 37 only got registered in 1978 and was previously connected to our current queen through some shooting estate
  13. I'm not going to post all my pics from today as i have over 750 and i concentrated on the fronts today so tomorrow will be the rears. I'm going to post the cars i found most interesting. finding two pre war ford woodies made my day and its the first time i've seen a 37 or 36 for real. I wouldn't want to drive the cadillac rag top, its was clean at first glance but you could see the entire rear end shake when the doors shut and the top removal seemed to just involve a saw and some thin stainless trim without any reinforcing on the sills. I'll be adding all the pics to my flickr albums once i return home and theres lots to see apart from these.
  14. some 2cv based kit cars from todays show in shetland. The red thing has a vauxhall cresta engine and most were 3 wheeled
  15. I thought I'd put the land rovers and range rovers in a seperate thread as many of us have the revell and italeri kits so these may be good reference pics. The forward control was really nicely restored with some mild updates for modern roads and a little more comfort. the slightly odd looking thing is the modern (not land rover) grenadier but to me it looks like someone stuck a g wagen grille on a defender
  16. I've used the collets from a cheap electric nail file. they fit the smaller dremell collets pretty well and for less than 5 bucks you also get a decent sanding drum and 120 of the sandpaper rings for it. The motor part only lasted about 6 months (I used it as my travell dremell on the boat) but the rest is still working in my dremmell and the parkside brand knock offs from lidl which come with loads of tools for notta lotta cash
  17. The car show I'm attending this weekend had a display of locally built boat models. all except the lifeboat were made from wood and most are 1/24. the oil rig supply boats appear to be around 1/35. There were also some wooden models of local buses in around 1/20. I've left out the diecasts but there were almost 1000 dinky diecast and the same in corgi trucks. i believe the buses models are fairly old
  18. superiority often leads to a hard fall
  19. are these his models? they're on display at the clyde riverside and i think some might be also in the edinburgh industrial museum as i believe its part of the same museum. theres also a bus museum near edinburgh that may have some.
  20. todays most interesting car was an old volvo. its not a special edition or anything but it only has 8500 miles on it and a sign telling about the first car to visit a wee hamlet. most of my other pics are derelict sheds
  21. dementia always does this. its sad and awful but the worst part is watching it happen and knowing you can only comfort them. and if things happen such as falls or going for a wander late at night dont beat yourself up over it. its part of the disease and sadly it seems to affect men much worse than women. you have a tough road ahead but there are a few of us on here that you can turn to for advice or just to vent your frustrations at. we've been there and we understand. when the folk I've cared for have passed i didn't feel sadness, just relief it was over but that doesn't mean we dont care, we just saw both sides of the story. one thing i found that helped was going through old photos and items from when they were younger, as dementia seems to trap folk in another time than they are living in. its an awful disease. if you have a sick sense of humour it will help you get through it and its ok to laugh if something dumb happens, and its better for your mental health than crying over it. its not even really anger when they seem annoyed, its frustration at not understanding how time feels like its jumped 40 or 50 years into the future for them. if you need to vent feel free to pmor if you need to vent without cencorship i can give you my email, you wont offend me
  22. i think most will have something but you'll find many more styles in 3d printed rims
  23. tuesday can follow saturday if you spend the weekend drinking
  24. Rather than fill the what did you see thread i'll do this seperate thread. The show is at the weekend but until then there are a few road runs. The jag wagon is the real deal jaguar built and is the only one left. We had to go in groups of 5 cars so as not to block the locals. Tomorrow will have more cars as the ferry is full ti friday. There are a few scenery pics but most include the cars
  25. Today i got to see one of the rarest jaguars in existence. This is a real jaguar built test car and is still owned by jaguar. 2 were made but one was destroyed during testing. There are coachbuilt versions around but this is the real deal, genuine jaguar wagon
