  1. I agree with all that's been said above. The only thing I would add is another option for picking out details would be Tamiya panel line accent. Won't really do anything different than the washes mentioned above. Just another possibility. And it's super easy to use. Another possibility might be Mr. Weathering Color. This one I haven't tried yet. But results I've seen on YouTube look promising. I plan to give it a shot very soon.
  2. I’ve been working on this kit for a few months now. It started life as practice for painting. As such, it’s been stripped three times now. I started with Rustolium (shot it too thick and had runs), switched to Dupli Color Perfect Match (first time using it and I got terrible orange peel), stripped and shot it again, only to burn through on the polishing stage. This has become a great tool for learning the trade. Each screw up has been my own fault and I think I’ve learned from my mistakes (boy I hope so…?). Originally I didn’t intend to do a wip on the Camaro, but I started thinking about what a journey it’s been already. Many of you have seen the stages of this in other threads I started. So now it’s time to get a little more serious about this kit and see what happens. Here’s where it stands today. I have a few versions of this kit, but I picked this one up most recently. They sell pretty cheap now and I couldn’t resist. Floor pan, suspension components, and wheels are painted. There is still some detail painting to do, but it’ll wait for now. I did some research, and it seems some of the Camaros had black floor pans and others had red oxide. Depends on where they were built. I’ll probably weather it very lightly, just to bring out some definition. Interior is painted and awaiting details. I actually just shot the engine Chevy engine orange just before I wrote this. It’s still wet here. And finally, the body…. Ah yes. I’ll keep the story short (too late!). I plan to build this as more of a stripped version, sort of basic Camaro. I’ll still be using the same engine, but just to be different from the crowd, this one won’t have stripes, and I’m leaving the rear spoiler off. The kit comes with indents for mounting the spoiler, that are filled here. Also, there is a sink mark on the roof above the dome light. That’s filled here too. Not difficult, but this step has had to be repeated every time I stripped the body and restarted. I think that’s it for now. Love it or hate it, let me know what you think. Thanks for following along!
  3. Great tips guys. I’ll have to give this a shot. Although I think I’ll try the file first. I tend to melt plastic every time I get within ten feet of a model if I’m holding a dremel.?
  4. HL just raised the price of Testors spray paint too. I usually get Extreme Lacquer there for $5.99. Now it's $8.29. I was buying two cans of wet look clear, and one had the old price, but the other can had the new price. I left with one can.
  5. Gorgeous build. Nice job!?
  6. I spent MANY hours with my head stuffed under a dashboard, or climbing into a trunk installing stereos back in the 80’s and 90’s. Love that stuff! Although I was more into Kenwood and Alpine back then. Who remembers Kraco??
  7. Actually, that looks like it would make a perfect jet engine.?
  8. Gorgeous. Really great build quality.
  9. I kinda like this. Funky.
  10. Completely my own fault, but I just dropped a full bottle of Testors liquid cement on the floor at my bench. No one to be mad at but me.?? On the up side, it a cement floor, and no model parts were involved. But I do have to vacate the area for a while. Those fumes are potent!
  11. Picked this up in a Goodwill yesterday. Marshall 4x12 speaker cabinet. Score!! It’s from 1995 and is in excellent condition. Who the heck turns something like this in to Goodwill for absolutely nothing? This is the second speaker cab I’ve scored from two different locations. Crappy picture, I know.
  12. Been pretty busy lately so I’m not getting much bench time. Sundays are pretty much it if I’m lucky enough to get that much. But I wanted to do a quick mock up after paint to make sure I still like the direction this project is going and more importantly make sure I don’t see any major issues before I tackle the bmf on the body. Just ignore the dust!? Gotta say, stripping the blue and going with this green. I’m really glad I did it. The blue is an awesome color, and I plan to use at some point on something else. But I wasn’t feeling it on this particular project after I saw it painted.
  13. You scratch built that? Wow! Looks terrific! How long did it take you?
  14. I think you nailed it with that finish. Terrific weathering!
  15. You definitely overcame the obstacles. This is one gorgeous Camaro build. Great work.?
  16. Hands down worst for me was an ‘89 Ford Escort GT. Ran great as long as the weather was good. Once it got below 10 degrees F, it would buck really hard while driving. Just what you don’t want on icy roads.
  17. Another great build. Excellent work Ray.
  18. That looks terrific. Never seen one of thesebuilt. Very cool!
  19. Do they still make this stuff? I’m thinking Turtle Wax either changed the formula or put it in a different bottle.
  20. Some more GM torch red for my Camero project (after it’s swim in the purple pond is over).
  21. Beautiful build. You have to love that grill!
  22. If you don’t see any paint buildup, I wouldn’t worry about the staining. Sand it smooth and prime it.
