  1. Thanks to all of you who replied to this thread. Your input has been invaluable as always! After reading through the comments, looking at reviews online and watching several videos, I went with the Grex Tritium. Should have it by the end of the week.
  2. Possible outcomes of the above post include joy and poverty.
  3. …and here we are, five months later.? My ‘40 Ford is on hold until the new airbrush shows up (Thursday?). So in the meantime I’m doing odds and ends for other kits. I saw a video by Barbados Rex about making heat-stained exhaust pipes, and I wanted to give it a shot on this kit. Here’s how it worked out. He used Mr. Color paints for his video. I had Tamiya on hand and so used it instead. Also, the body is currently getting stripped. When I painted it originally, I really wanted a metallic orange, but hadn’t gotten back into airbrushing yet, so I took what I could get. Now I’m going for the color I really want.
  4. Bugs are not on the menu today.
  5. Movie theaters are getting some of my money today when we go to Beetlejuice.
  6. Thanks buddy! I build very slowly, and frequently will hit a roadblock that will send a kit into a stall. But for whatever reason I seem to have found my muse with this kit, and things are flowing pretty smoothly. Excuse me while I go knock on wood...?
  7. Looks terrific! I really like your color choices here.?
  8. Wheels are tires are done!
  9. Forever is a very long time.
  10. The Grex does look really nice and has excellent reviews. Anybody here have experience with it? Also, the Gaahleri B. Rex swallowtail is interesting. And a lot less money.
  11. Sign, sign, everywhere a sign.
  12. Pretty minor update (it seems like most are doesn’t it?). The kit radiator with 3D printed fan is done. This part came out exactly as I was hoping.
  13. I’m on the market for another airbrush. Looking for a trigger-style this time. Dual action. This new airbrush will primarily be used for painting bodies (I plan to continue using my Badger Patriot 105 for smaller parts and detail work). Any suggestions? My budget is around $150 give or take.
  14. Ok guys, this is my first attempt at flocking. How’d I do? Honest critique and feedback please. I'd like to improve on this. To my eyes it looks a little thin in spots and thick in others.
  15. Her attention might be yours if you give it a shot.?
  16. Thanks Carl! The hood and fenders came out pretty nice, but the body needs a little attention. I’m hoping to have it resprayed before the weekend.
  17. Over the weekend I decided to make my own shifter. Here’s the boot, made from layers of sheet styrene cut with a leather hole punch. Today the body got its first few coats of paint. I had to stop after the third coat because I found a bad spot on the body shell. I’ll let it cure, lightly wet sand, and reshoot it as time allows. I am LOVING this paint.
  18. Shot some chrome paint yesterday through my airbrush.
  19. More isn’t always better.
  20. Lots and lots and lots of today’s cars all look the same.
  21. The hubcaps are chrome at last. I used Gaianotes premium mirror chrome over gloss black. I think I should have stopped after the first coat. They were a bit more reflective than after the second one.
  22. My bottom layer exposure is set to around 18 seconds if memory serves. Also, the edge of the raft is angled allowing a chisel a place to start. It comes off without too much effort. Do you cure the part before or after removing it from supports? I always cure after. It seems to make the job much easier for me. After cleaning the part and supports, I submerge the whole thing in hot tap water (not boiling) for about 30 seconds, then remove supports. Then after the part is dry, it gets cured. Another consideration is the resin you use. Some is more brittle than others. Disclaimer- I’m by no stretch of the imagination an expert. I’ve only been doing this since spring of this year. I’m still learning as I go.
  23. Of that, I’m quite sure.?
  24. Absolutely gorgeous! Are the windows printed or vacuum formed? After seeing your other build, I bought a few of his designs too. Great stuff.?
  25. Trying out a different product for washes today. It’s pretty easy to work with. Oil based if I understand correctly.
