These are my favorite trucks. we had a burgundy long box stepside when I was a kid. Thing is, when I was looking at the AMT "72" Jimmy kit I noticed something. The grille didn't look right. So I compared it to the grille from the old '72 stepside kit and it was indeed different. BUT, which one was correct. I had always thought that besides the bright trim around the grille on the later models, they were all the same so I did some research , , NOT. Turns out there are three separate, distinct grilles. The '67 has the GMC lettering stamped on the middle of the cross piece. The '68 to '70 is basically the same grille but with the lettering stamping removed from the grille and replaced with die-cast GMC letters added to the hood. The '71-'72 has a slightly wider vertical section in the center with a slight depression stamped into it which a lot of the time [but not always]is painted black with more black surrounding the grille. '67,,, '68 to '70,,, '68 '70 '71/'72 So, going by the grille, the AMT Jimmy could only be a '70 as it was the only year, the first year, the Jimmy was made that used that grille. But then again, I don't remember AMT actually calling it a '72 anywhere on the kit but every time I see one posted it's called a '72.

It's the same screen I got using my desktop. It's the same screen I got using my big Dell desktop.

IF the kit actually looked like that illustration, I'd build another one. Bad rear 1/4 panels, to shallow grille, dash pad doesn't overhang enough. Bumpers aren't great either compared to JoHan but passable.

Canuck 3-D also has a printed one. -
I just hope Moebius will price them in line with their other comparable kits. The reason I never bought one in the past was Galaxie pricing them at roughly twice the cost of other kits. [if not more] I know they're nice kits but I can't really see paying a premium price for a kit that's no more "premium" them pretty well all Moebius' other car kits.

Michael, just so you know, I was able to post in the thread by doing it as a response to another post like I'm doing here. Might be another clue.

Mr. Hobby Gundam markers are pretty popular.

The bedrooms in my house are both front and rear. Master in front and spare in rear on the right side looking from the street. Bathroom between them and kitchen and living room on the left side. Very common way of building a house in the '70s and '80s around here.

French Canadian Peter, much like how you spelled "Canadian". ๐ But, wow, I just wish you guys would post as many comments on my latest build as you do my spelling and grammar mistakes. ๐ -
Pretty wild there, Steve. I had doubts when you started but you brought it all together in fine form. Pretty cool. ๐

How opaque are the Tamiya pearl lacquers?
Can-Con replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
A grey or black base under pearl yellow will make it look green. Optical illusion. -

How opaque are the Tamiya pearl lacquers?
Can-Con replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'd recommend a light base or at least a similar color base under it. This is their pearl yellow over bare plastic ,, but then again. yellows never cover well. -
Moebius had that sign on their table at a show last year so I'd say they do intend to produce the kit, just a matter of when.

1968 Beaumont conversion kit test build WIP
Can-Con replied to Wylde's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Hey Wilde, ever consider doing some Meteor conversions? Grilles for the '56, '57 and '60 and '61 could be done as wall as the '66. I think the '61 looks particularly cool. -
Ray's Kits Decals - Caution!
Can-Con replied to Joe Lange's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Not my fault, not my problem. If Ray was out of the decals you wanted you have to wait until he has more printed, simple as that. Why not try getting in touch with Ray directly instead of going through a middle-man? Don't bother responding to my message, not my circus, not my monkeys.๐คก๐ -
Been working on the frame mods. I "Z-ed" the back 1/2, removed the spare tire and made a new rear crossmember. First I cut the frame apart on the diagonal, using the crossmembers as reference points to make the cuts the same on both sides. The place where I cut was very thick. Gives me lots of gluing area but the drop would have been more then I wanted so I carefully cut a couple scale inches out of the diagonal so it would give me a more modest drop when glued back together. Then the 2 parts fit snugly back on top of each other and I added a couple small squares of sheet plastic to strengthen the joint. Compared to the old frame in black, you can se this gives me about a 6 scale inch drop and I could easily still use the stock rear axel and springs if I wanted. But I'll be using the C4 Vette rear end from the AMT '34 Ford hotrod under the back of this one. Planned ride height when finished

Sorry I had to post it as a response to your message Brian. At the time I got the "oops, that page can't be found" message every time I tried to post that as a separate comment. It was the only way it would go through. ๐คจ
