Geez! Another Stocker! 70 Formula Firebird B/SA
Can-Con replied to R. Thorne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I'd usually go that way too, Bill but I don't think the contours at the front of the smaller hood will match up with the contours of the larger nose. That's why I recommended the graft. -
Geez! Another Stocker! 70 Formula Firebird B/SA

I'd suggest getting a message to Southern Motorsports Hobby and asking them if their hood is meant for the 1/24 Monogram kit or the original 1/25 MPC kits. If their hood is the same I'd not bother buying one. I'd just cut the scoop section from the hood you have and graft it into the Monogram kit hood. -
Maybe the parts were used on a different model. I'm 100% confident Andy's correct about the origin of the parts in your pic.

The Big Boys-Large Cars
Can-Con replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I took my license road test in our '74 LeSabre 4 door sedan. My first car I could really call "mine" was my '73 Buick Centurion 2 door. I've also had a '76 Caprice Classic, '75 Pontiac Parisienne, '70 Olds 88 and a few other "large cars" as daily drivers, never had a problem driving them. ,, now keeping gas in them was another matter. To me, Chevelles Malibus, Centurys, Regals, etc, are not "large cars. LOL. Sorry. One thing I find funny though is how a lot of people who think anything bigger then a Camry or Accord is too big but think nothing of plunking themselves down in a modern 4 door pickup without another thought, not caring how big it is. This '68 Electra was bought by my grandfather in about '74 and is still in the family. Big car? ,, "HUGE CAR" !! Guess what?, it's actually 1/2 a foot SHORTER then my bosses '24 F-150 Tremor . -
Ya know, there's a lot to be said for "quality over quantity", Steve. ,, and you got it in spades. Don't know about that magazine caption though, looks like the people responsible for it need to take a page out of your book on accuracy. 😉

I had that kit [still have the remains]. Mine was molded in white, never seen one molded in orange before. 🤔

Get a hold of Keith Marks or Ray's Kits Decals. They both do those 442 decals and both will do custom orders of them in any color you want. Keith's are cheaper but Roy's are more comprehensive.

Nope, not really. I got one of those to build and gift to my uncle who rebuilt his from the frame up. Has since passed from ALS. [very unpleasant all around] It is such a poor representation of the real car that I never did build it.

When the info is correct, which is not always. It's nice to look at all the pretty pictures of the box are but the info isn't always right. I've seen some pretty big mistakes on that site.

For those not familiar, I submit a couple magazine covers the actual car was on to illustrate what a great job Phil did capturing the essence of the car. 👍

Actually for a '68 Impala made from the '67 you'd need a complete new interior too. "a promo style chassis would not work for lowrider builds which would be a natural for this car." ,,, I beg to differ,, These were built on the "promo chassis" they came with. Same chassis was used with minor exhaust changes by MPC for all their Impala and Caprices from '68 to '76. I have the complete run with my '69 and '70 being AMT, the rest are MPC. I did use the AMT '70 chassis under this '69 but I could have used the MPC chassis under it as easily. , , and gratuitous pic of my '68. My was a convertible but had a missing windshield frame so I grafted on the roof from the newer '67 kit. Same chassis with minor exhaust differences as the '76.

Looks fantastic. I do remember the car and think I still have a copy of "hot Rod" in the garage with it on the cover.👍👍👍

Who doesn't love a mock-up? Let's see yours!
Can-Con replied to Belairconvertable's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Oh, yea. I do wish we could post private pickups, vans and suvs in the regular car section though as opposed to "commercial" vehicle section. Won't be nothing "commercial" about this one.😉 -
My builds finished in '24 [OOPS, forgot one, added it]
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in Model Cars
Hey, cool, I had a 1/1 '69 too back in the '80s. Mine was originally that pastel blue with white top but I painted it Mopar Plum Crazy purple with the top in grey. Wish I could have kept that one. [along with the '72 boat tail and '76 Caprice Classic Landau 😥] -
Ya know, Jim, Spotlight Hobbies now offers a plating service. They'll do a 6X8 frame for the same price as a can of Revell chrome. ,,Just say'n. Digg'n that new back bumper BTW.

OK, so I've settled on my next project. It's in Easy Off right now and I'll get seriously into it after the Plymouth wagon is finished. Just hope those fender flares come off the front fenders without too much drama. 🙄 -
A couple shots of the interior before it's closed up,, ,,, and a mockup under the hood,,

I don't know who made them but they sure were popular. Even my father's '67 Meteor Rideau had them.

I was at the local hobby shop one day about 20 years ago and seen a guy buy and open a new, unopened AMT Garlits dragster kit at the counter. Missing all the unplaited trees, which was most of the kit, of course. The plated tree, tires and all the paperwork was in the box.

Revell '65 Chevelle does too and maybe easier to find.

My year in styrene: still having fun at the bench!
Can-Con replied to Claude Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
Beautiful work on all of them, Claude. I don't know how you can be so productive and still do such clean builds. -
Merry Christmas to you too, Ken. Hope you didn't get blasted too bad by today's storm. We just caught the tail here in Fredericton, less then 4 inches on the ground and pretty well done right now just after 3PM. Lovely illustration, looks like it just came off a post card. 👍

"Custom" is ALWAYS an option, just depends on how creative you can get. 😉

Floor's done and flocked. Now I can finish up the interior.
