  1. The strips were pinstrips over the wheel openings, around the glass and a couple other areas. The color of the strips would be the same as the lettering but there's only red lettering in the kit so,,,
  2. This is about where I want it. Might bring the back down a touch before everything's set but the box is probably not down as far as it goes yet so it might be about right. Still need to do some tinkering with that box.
  3. My local hobby shop is the Canadian distributor , I'm pretty sure he'll ship it to you. I don't think the prices will be quite as low as on the Scale Finishes website though. There's a link to his shop at the bottom of the Scale Finishes home page.
  4. Looks good Jim. Love the wheels with the colors Not just GTX emblems on the side of the body though, That's the '69 GTX body, it's different in some ways than the '68 like the side marker lights, trunk lid and tailights.
  5. That's not a Pontiac engine,it's a big block Chevy. Looks like an early '70 era AMT or MPC [or parts from both] from a Vette maybe with extra parts from other kits.
  6. The reference page I found says the coupe and sedan had a 111 inch wheelbase and the wagon 114. Could that 1 inch difference be because of axle placement on an A-body frame?
  7. The kit is buildable,, just takes more work than most people are willing to put into it. I also glued the hood on both the ones I started lately. Easier to make it all look good and I don't find the underhood area of those cars all that intresting anyway. Putty and patence. This is the green one I've been working on,, and the same body all painted ,, Here's the finished red one I did the exact same procedure too,, What I did find with this issue that I don't remember happening with older issues of th MPC Firebird kits is I had to do some grinding with the Dremmell on the bottom of the interior bucket in the tranny hump area for the chassis plate to sit properly. I also drilled new holes to lower it some but that's more a personal choice than a necessity.
  8. Love a black 1st Gen Firebird!. Really like that front end treatment too. Looks like the custom front end AMT put on thier "Quarter Masters" custom Firebird that came with a drag boat.
  9. New paint. Needs another coat of clear or two and polished out but I'm happy with it so far.
  10. Hadn't really planned to do this one next but some things just kinda happen. I had started this project almost 7 years ago. Got it as a started kit from a friend. It had some stuff painted like the body parts and interior but never assembled. He had cut the hole in the roof for the aftermarket sunroof that was included in the kit though. So, I filled it . Thought I had done a pretty good job of it , nice and smooth. Mini-tubbed the box so I could get some fat Pegasus Michelin tires under the back. Cut the bed floor out to make way for some nice oak I happened to have and painted it with some House of Color blue I custom mixed. All the body parts, inner fenders, engine, rad wall and firewall all painted and clearcoated. The engine was from a Revell '69 Vette. [can't remember where the tranny's from] Then I dropped the cab and the roof repair cracked all around the filled sunroof opening. So, I stripped it again and repaired the roof ,,, and that's how it's been for over 6 years now. Was gonna start back on my '68 Chevy fleetside yesterday, which was in the same box as the '78. Had them both out on the table ,, The '78 was ready for paint, the '68 not so much ,, so I painted it instead with the last of my HOK Oriental blue candy basecoat. ,, looked so good I cleared it and will be finishing it up next. Pics of the new paint job soon,,,
  11. Just came across this pic while looking for something else.
  12. OK Ron, "stupid question time" ,, why didn't you just graft the Revell underhood area to the JoHan body which is actually a '72 anyway? Just curious why the extra work . Looks good though.
  13. It's a Loreal nail polish I put over a custom mix light yellow acrylic.
  14. Thanks guys. Here's a link to the build album if anyone's interested. http://public.fotki.com/SteveMilberry/projects/66-corvette-cvt/
  15. Here's what I started with,, ,, And here's the finished restoration,,,
  16. That was Ron's project actually. Mine was the convertible. But, I do have a white hardtop too. BTW, did you sell yous recently? I remember seeing one very similar on e-bay a few weeks ago.
  17. Nice save !. Great to see these old kits given the attention they deserve.
  18. That looks great , super save on that one !
  19. Very nice work !
  20. Used most of the engine from the current issue AMT '63 split window coupe but kept the original valve covers. They just looked nicer even with one damaged. Just added plug wires and some lines on the injection unit for interest.
  21. Has anyone tried the tires from the AMT '70 Monte Carlo low rider on those wheels? The low rider tire are more modern radials but they are 13 inch. May fit and look much better than those things.
  22. Na, didn't think to on this one. I stripped it years ago, Closest I have is this pic. You can see it in the bottom box on the bottom left corner in that beautiful Testors bottle green.
  23. Not all of them ,, Hey, I got mine.
