Better chassis for the bigger Buicks
Can-Con replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As a former 1/1 '69 Riviera owner, I can say the AMT '66 chassis is correct for that swap. For the '65, the back part behind the wheels is different but IIRC, the rest of the chassis is the same. -
Any idea how to "tint" windows
Can-Con replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Exactly right Steve. Your method is almost the same as mine. But I use a custom mix of Tamiya acrylics instead of smoke. Then I clearcoat them and polish them out . Here's a shot of some from the last batch I did last week. These are a bit darker than the ones in the other pic and look about twice as dark as this in person. For some reason it doesn't show up as dark in the pics. -

Take a closer look Harry. I did tint the whole thing in a factory shade too, front and back. -

I'll just keep doing mine as I have for over 25 years now. -
Um, don't know what '69 Novas you've been looking at Richard but all the ones I've seen do indeed have metal inner fenders, not plastic ,,and usually rusty in this part of the world. And a Nova being a unibody car without a frame, they help keep the front fenders, radiator wall, etc in place and lined up properly. The only time you'd see one of these cars without inner fenders is if it's a race car.

SOME NEW GOOCHE DECAL INFO.......
Can-Con replied to AC Norton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I knew his daughter was selling the decals on e-bay last time, I had heard Billy himself had died a few years ago. Kinda figured they were out of business when they disappeared from e-bay several months ago. -
Scalefinishes: Compatiable Clearcoat
Can-Con replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I used Tamiya bottle clear acrylic over the Scale Finishes paint on this car. Turned out great with minimal polishing. -
I've always wanted some of those but never seen any in my area. I'd love to have the whole set, even with the 2-peice tires.

What predictions can we make for new kit releases in 2017?
Can-Con replied to GMP440's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The hot rod parts were put in the '34 3 window coupe. That kit was also only issued once too. -

I'd rather see them do a new body. That way they could correct the tops of the rear fenders at the same time. -
Hey Ken, welcome. What part of BC are you from? I have family on the island and lived there for a while when I was a kid myself. About the truck, Closest you'll be able to find in a regular kit is the '50 AMT makes. Really nice kit. There was someone doing the '54 cab to convert the AMT kit years ago but I don't remember who it was, maybe someone else here could help with that.

Super job Raoul. Looks great. Nice catch on flattening the deck lid area, I think it's the first one of these conversions I've seen that caught that detail.

Humm,, I could see a reissue of the MPC '81 Camaro Z-28 done along the lines of the Trans Am. New decals and tires in a retro box., , Or maybe the Pinto coupe. '77 Matador maybe?? -
Sorry, forgot to mention, I opened the doors. I was the original buyer/builder back in the '80s so I know for sure it's the MPC kit.
-
That's the kit the white painted remains are from. I'm sure now that the unpainted red car is the IMC/Testors car. Thanks.
-
OK, I think I found it ,,IMC/Testors kit.
-
Thanks guys, but it's quite a bit different than the remains of the MPC kit I have. Here's a few quick pics so you can see the differences.
-
Very interesting read. Loads of info , thanks guys. I have one question though, what do I have here? It seems to me I was told years ago but I just can't remember.

I just did some comparisons myself and Raoul and Snake are both right . The new '72 kit body is narrower than the '70 or red '80s '72, but only by about 1 mm across the widest part of the bumper opening. [about 70 1/2 mm compared to about 71 1/2mm for both the red '72 and the '70] The '70 bumper fits its body pretty well, also almost as well on the red '72. The new body is off a bit more but it still looks OK. Unfortunatly, both of my '72 bumpers have already been narrowed and are mounted on sprue , ready for replating so no point in measuring them. But I do believe they were noticeably wider or I wouldn't have bothered cutting them down. BTW, the timeline on these kits is actually a bit strange. The original '72 was modified into a race car in the '70s and back to a street car in the early '80s.[red car] Then it was modified again to the '70. The current '72 actually seems to be a different body. If you compare the red body with the current one you will find a lot of small differences,

I think they have a special on right now with a 6" garlic cheese fingers too !
-
Quite right Snake. Only Buick used those wheels. They do look very much alike though. The difference is the spokes on the Buick wheel are concave while the Magnums are convex.
-
Joe, I'm tell'n ya, the ones we have here are not the same as anywhere else in the world. If you're not from here you just won't get it. Ask any transplanted Maritimer . LOL You'll just have to take my word on this one.
-
Although similar, donairs and gyros are not the same thing. You can get them with Tzatziki sauce but usually with donair sauce which is sweeter and loaded with garlic. Also donairs are made with ground beef, the others are usually lamb.

'65 Chevy Stepside
Can-Con replied to aussie_modler's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I wouldn't worry too much about that seam. Most transmissions have seams in the cases. ,, of corse any pans molded to them should have the seam removed. -
