Doesn't matter. I want it because I had it as a kid. Nostalgia is a dirty mistress. ?

Some crazy bidding on MPC One Arm Bandit!
Can-Con replied to peteski's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not silly at all. Like I keep telling people, would you rather have a 1/2 dozen more common kits you won't get around to and don't have much interest in anyway or spend that money on one kit you really want? I think you made the right decision, Mike. -
Here's another good shot,, Looks like it's kinda crimped a bit around the outside edge of it.
-
No problem John. I figured the mixup was because of both kits being '70 R/Ts. Easy mistake to make. As for the boot,, The real ones are flat, no height to them really. I'd just cut a flat piece of sheet plastic to the right shape and glue it down. Maybe add a bit of detail on the sides where it wraps down a bit between the seat and side panels. I did the same thing with my '74 Caprice convertible when I did it.
-
I'm hoping they'll reissue this one. I don't think it was ever reissued in this form although there were some spinoffs from it in the '70s and '80s.
-
Very cool. ? I'm planning to one day do the same upgrades with an MPC '74 I have.
-
That kit first came out in '80 or '81 as the "Yankee Challenge'" when Lesney [Matchbox] owned AMT. and it was never a diecast, that was the Revell R/T. All the AMT '70 Challengers are the same kit with a separate hardtop piece. Not a bad kit really except for that separate top with the awful side window shape and the totally incorrect shape of the convertible boot. I have a couple and plan to use the chassis and underhood stuff from one to update an MPC '74 annual I have.
-
Jim, That kit is actually a '64 annual hardtop and the roof came that way. If you wanted to do that roof on yours, you could keep the vinyl texture if you like. All you'd really need to do is cut the opening back and add a thin strip to replace the drip rail. Since it's a custom, anything goes, right? ?
-
That kit also has the stock parts so you can build it stock if you want, Jeremy.

Jim, how about just cutting the rear side window openings back so they're similar to the standard roofline? I've always preferred that myself over the "Town Hardtop" roofline.

What did you see on the road today?
Can-Con replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Look a little closer, Steve. There's THREE Skylines in that pic. ? -
How about a '69 Torino fastback [Sportback] roof?
-
Anyway Michael, I do want to apologies for the off topic posts, I really shouldn't have said anything.

OK. This is the part I had a problem with,, " But I don’t see either one of them entering Boyd built cars in shows or getting lucrative colab deals under their own name and doing it only after Boyd’s death. " Foose left Boyds and had a very successful career almost 10 years before Coddington died. You kinda make it sound like Foose worked for him right up until he passed and then picked over his bones to make his name. A knee-jerk reaction on my part maybe, but, hey, maybe I really do know nothing about the subject. ?
-
Ok, I obviously know nothing about it so I'll refrain from commenting on it any more.
-
very impressive replica.

Yea, I'm thinking the only input Boyd had in that car was to come around and holler at the workers to hurry up every couple days. ? Chip designed it, the rest of the workers at the shop built it.

DiOlex resin 77 Caprice four door
Can-Con replied to hedotwo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Revell 91 Caprices and Impala SS kits would be a great option, wish I had thought of that. -

Looks pretty good. The chassis from a JoHan '77-'79 coupe Deville would be correct for this but it would need to be shortened, of course. The Revell Caddy lowrider would also work but probably more work. -
Eleanor Mustang Trans kit
Can-Con replied to Plasticated Guy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I know Rex, I did look at the site. That's why I said in spite of what they said. They must have assumed that just because the Revell/Monogram '65/'66 kits were 1/24, it would be too.
