Do you also have 1:1 project cars?
Can-Con replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Been tinkering with this thing for about 7 years now. The guy I bought it from said it had been sitting for about 15 years. I did run [barely] when I got it but it runs great now. Mostly stock. Replaced 3/4 of the floors, brakes, tires, various engine parts, etc. Have an interior kit, headliner, etc. to go in it eventually. -
I'd strip it and start over since you already have stripped some of it. As for the decals, I've heard some have had luck tapeing yellowed decals in a south facing window and letting sunlight fade the yellow back out, but I have never tried it myself. I'd bet some time under a UV light would do the same thing though.

Sources for clear 1/25 headlight lenses?
Can-Con replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, it takes at least over night and I don't handle them for a couple days myself just to make sure. -

True Bill 5" and 7". , , BUT, you have 1/24 and 1/25 scales not to mention there's a LOT of variation in that "5" and 7"" between kits. I made these by pressing kitchen foil down over a headlight tightly. Usually I use a soft pencil eraser to get the details sharp and then put a couple drops of clear casting resin in them. Just enough to form a convex surface. Just trim and the foil creates the reflector and has the prism detail in it. If you want a clear lens I just use non-stick foil and the resin pops right off. The one in the chrome bezel below was made that way. This pic was taken 7 years ago. I'm still using these and they haven't turned yellow yet. This is what they look like installed. -

Kevin, is there a better place to see what you're offering then the e-bay store? The picking seems pretty thin on there. -
I did this over 15 years ago. Still my best wood grain job. I think I'll repost it in the regular section later on.

Thanks To AMT For The New Technology Old Kits
Can-Con replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I like rebuilders. Some of my best stuff was from a previously built model. -
AMT made annual kits of every year Thunderbird in hardtop and convertible versions for every year from '58 or '59 right up to '71. I have several of them myself. This '61 hardtop is the only " bullitt bird" I have finished so far but I also have '62 and '63s in both hardtop and convertible. Simpler promo based kits but look great when done up.
-
Same basic kit but the top one is stock only and doesn't have the optional parts for the lowered suspension, wheels etc.
-
You mean something like this Paul? There's lots out there.

Atlantis Models has bought another lot of tooling/molds.....

I'd say the Ford body is the Fox Mustang. -
In itself, it's not a bad ides, it's just that us, who build these kits are so cheap. How often have you seen a great new kit come out and 1/2 the posters on here say they'll wait until it goes on sale or they get a 1/2 price coupon because they don't want to pay the asking price? Waiting for the kit to go on sale just tells the company that it wouldn't sell for what they're fairly asking and maybe even that it's a dud.
-
What are the missing parts, Bob? I can't even find an instruction sheet on line for the annual to look at.
-
Because parts packs engines don't sell. Besides, the kits they recently released without engines will be released with engines and other underhood details soon enough. [Nova wagon anyone?] Just wait for one of those. Seems North American car modelers are the only ones that obsess over engines to this degree. 90% of other model kits such as military and aircraft models don't come with engines and the people building those don't seem to be worried about it so much.

Datsun Truck
Can-Con replied to dougwintz's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks good. Just had mine out looking at it a few hours ago. it's about 1/2 done and in about the same color as yours. Looks cool with the Cragars. ? -
I really couldn't care less about the cars, I just find the show too foolish to watch now. That's just my opinion, I know there's lots of people who just love it.
-
Apparently, the car was black in one or two episodes for some reason. I couldn't say myself as I haven't watched it since I was a kid and can't stand it now. But, I'd be suspect of a decal printed on white decal sheet like that being completely opaque. I'd suspect the body color would show through to some extent but would have to actually see it on a car to be sure.
-
Dave, have you test fitted the hood on with the rad and body yet? Mine had about a 1/16 gap when I but them together as instructed. I had to move the rad back to close the gap and clear the headlights and their bar.

Thanks To AMT For The New Technology Old Kits

OK, here's the big question ,,, IF,, just IF, you scan the body of an old JoHan Javelin AMX and ignore the inside of the body, just smooth it over on the inside and create the rest of the kit in cad. ,, IF that JoHan body is as exact as everyone claims it is to the real car, who owns the copyright? JoHan, who doesn't really exist any longer and directly copied the design under license or Chrysler Corp or whoever owns the rights to AMC and the design of the real cars now? -
In all honesty, I think I would have actually preferred the tail lights molded in with the rest of the trim strip. I think I could get the look much easier if they were all one piece and plated instead of clear red. Almost impossible to get the tiny chrome strips to look right on that . But, I think I can at least get them on the correct sides and not upside down. ?
