what is "good design"?
Roadrunner replied to southpier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not knowing the particular design criteria for what any one car are, it's difficult for me to say if the design is solid or not. As to aesthetic appearance, that is of course purely personal. If you think car designs can be poor looking, take a look at the world of architecture, now there's an area of some oftentimes bizarre (from my personal perspective) visual styles. -
I have to try some of that. Lacquer based? I surfed the web a few days ago, looking for lacquer based nail polish, and there are some gorgeous colors available, some of which I have in mind for an upcoming 32 Vicky. Your Willys looks great,... very nice indeed.

I really hope I'm not getting tiring with these "shiny updates", but this is the first car model I've ever clear coated and polished in my life, and I'm just tickled with the results so far. I reworked the trunk area some, as it was sort of hazy, and also the right side of car and upper right fender. Another hour or so of polishing, and I'll be ready for BMF. I think I can say with a fair amount of certainty, that my next paint job will be much better, now that I've learned a few things about this method. -

Thanks very much, Jonathan. I appreciate your looking in. (In retrospect, I wish I had painted the blue a bit better, but I'm not about to strip it now.) -

Well, I still have five weeks, more or less, so I should have ample time, Joe. I threw a ton of car kits together as a kid too, but I've never even come close to having one look as good as this one has the potential to be. You'll be fine, Stray. I only wet sanded through one tiny area, and that's just because I was a bit overzealous to see some results. -
Nice project. I've always liked the earlier Vettes.

Nice looking project you've got here.

Car looks real good. I love that color, (I've always been partial to blue.). I think it'll sparkle like diamonds when you're through.

Thanks very much for all the nice comments and encouragement, fellas. Having not finished a car model in roughly 20 years, I'm feeling a bit pressured by all the great work I see here, and a strong desire to have this car be at least attractive enough not to be an embarrassment. -

I'm having some serious fun here. Wet sanding, followed by the toothpaste, then all three Novus polishes, are really allowing me to "get my shine on". -

Hurray! I found my other two polishes. #2 seems to clench the deal, with #1 just giving some extra gloss, or at least that's the way it appears to me. Far from some of the fabulous paintjobs I’ve seen here, for my very first ever lacquer job, I’m pretty pleased. Still lots of polishing ahead though. -

Thanks, Joe, but after my next attempt (using what I learned on the first two tries), they should look lots better, (I hope). -

Working on some various methods to get the wheels to look good. This is far from perfect, but once refined, it should work out OK I think. -
Acquired this yesterday. Kind of cool, as it provides a fair amount of data regarding (American) cars produced during this time frame.

Agreed. Several very pleasant days of weather, followed by gray, windy, chilly, drizzly gloom. Great weather for doing hobby stuff though.

Nice colors on this, very classy looking. -
And I just know that if I go out and buy more, the lost ones will magically reappear.
-
The stock wheels had been traded for the AM ones from Casey, so I have no idea.

Received these two today, through a trade with a fellow forumite. (Thanks, Vince.) The AMX includes some beautiful wheels that were apparently mastered by Casey.

Interesting. I'm just using a T-shirt that's too huge for me. I was given a dozen or so of them by a friend. -

OK, a little wet sanding, some Crest toothpaste and Novus #3 have yielded some pleasant results. Not perfect by a long shot, but certainly not bad, at least by my standards. After going over with #'s 2 & 1, it should look acceptable. -

I'm working on the older version of the same kit right now. Looks like you're doing a nice job. If you don''t mind my asking, why are most of your photos black and white? -
Not today, but yesterday, I discovered that I've misplaced two of my three Novus plastic polishes. I have no idea where they are at this point, and I have some paint that needs polishing. I'm not a happy pup.

Bummer. I started polishing the paint yesterday, and discovered a bit of a tiny fuzzball smack in the middle of the roof. That, combined with the (temporary, I hope) loss of two of my three Novus polishes, has me a bit frustrated.
