Thank you guys!!!! Minor change of plans... I think I'm going to take it this route now... Kidding! Masking is done ready for some green paint when I get off work today! I just couldn't resist a photo op, it looks like the pro-touring love child of C3P0 and the first Apple computer... haha...

Thanks guys! Im very happy with it... just need to do the green now without boogering it up. Its actually way easier than that.. i used low tack premask/transfer tape, that kept all the spacing correct...so, i just had to apply the enitre sheet to the side, then peel off the transfer tape, leaving just the vinyl masking.

Thanks guys!! No color sanding yet... This is all nail polish with duplicolor enamel clear... straight from the rattle can. First round of masking done! Going with purple panel paint on a green body... a little deviation from my original plan but, i think it will work out for the best. My plan, which I hope works.... Is to mask off and paint the purple panels first, then im going to apply a vinyl "fingerprint" style mask that i cut out on my vinyl plotter. Once that is done, I will fog the outside edges with Alclad Hot Metal Violet. This creates a pretty cool candy effect on the pearl purple. After that is good and dry, im going to peel all the mask and then re-mask the purple panels so I can paint the green, edge panels with BMF (simulate silver leaf).. This is all a bit tricky due to how transparent these bright colored nail polishes are.. add that to the fact i have never really done multi-tone paint on something this small... got the old brain working overtime. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

Progress!! Finished up a lot of the interior details, and painted the chassis... Tonight I was able to finish up the engine assembly and chrome all the chassis parts and wheels. Hopefully a rolling chassis will be complete soon.

Jericho you can always start a photobucket account and continue to upload your photos there and use the IMG code to link the photos back here. Then you can post unlimited photos. Nice work on KITT! -
Thank you guys for all the kind words! Should be getting back on this project tonight.

3D printing growing as we speak
Impalow replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh i didn't make those... haha.. the guy with 100K+ machine did... I fairly confident the 349.00 machine wont be able to pull off prints of that quality. But i will show examples when i get it, and get it up and running. I'm working on modeling a Chrysler 2.4 Turbo engine that will be will first print... stay tuned.. -
3D printing growing as we speak
Impalow replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welp... I bit the bullet and pulled the trigger on one of these.. https://printm3d.com/ I know the prints probably wont be super spectacular, shape-ways quality, but i have high hopes with the 15micron x-y and the 50micron z resolution. But for 349.00 if it cuts down on scratch building time, it will be worth it. They say 2-3 weeks for delivery.. I will keep you guys posted on how it goes. The good news is I am a 3d designer by trade, so the modeling part should be easy for me. On a 3D printing and modeling note... I recently purchased a set of wheels for my 1/24 scale rock crawler that were 3d printed off of another forum.. The quality was very impressive, and the ribbing basically went away with a coat of primer.. I asked this guy about his printer and it was an over 100k machine, same one shapeways use, however he ran it at max resolution settings, which shapeways will not due to time/profit. Anyway here are the photos. -
Thanks dr. Kerry! Made some solid progress tonight. So I'm pretty happy.. Added piping to the interior, made some floormats, and painted the tub... Then started the assembly. Still a lot of detail work to do.. Pedals, seat belts, door handles, gauges etc.. But you get the idea, looks like the Alien ride at the carnival, and that's what I was going for..

Anyone else having this issue with the icons on the main page? or is it just me?

Thanks guys!! Not much major progress last night... although i did make a harmonic balancer. That the starter and an oil filter adapter and filter are ready for paint. Slap those, stacks and headers on and the engine is done!

Thank you gasser59, I'm a big fan of your work so that means a lot coming from you. Managed to get the intakes installed and plumbed and then did a little wiring, very happy with how this is coming along... You may notice the front left injector supply line was disconnected, I have already remedied that issue.

Impalow replied to Bricksonwheels's topic in Model Cars
absolutely amazing work in a very cool medium!!! -
Thanks for all the compliments guys! After a pretty lengthy break, I have officially started back into this project. Last night I got started on the engine assembly... First by installing the photoetched header flanges to the block. Then assembled some of the shiny bits to the block. And then I scratchbuilt the metering block for the fuel injection, this was probably the most challenging thing I have done since returning to the hobby. A piece of .040 x .060 x .125 with 7 holes drilled into it, and then i decided to add the Photoetched hex fittings and linkage. Very time consuming but very rewarding... Sadly its very hard to photograph... although its not my cleanest work, it looks better in person and I am pretty happy with it... Hopefully i can get the intake installed and plumbed tonight.
