  1. When I opened the kit, it sure brought back memories. I completely forgot about the old flathead small block Chevy!!! I will update this on my build.
  2. Well, I bought this 59 (60...) off ebay at a low price. Built one as a kid and liked the box art and as a kid it came out good from my recollection. Knowing that I was getting an old kit and the simplicity of it was nt a shock, I knew what it was. Also, I am and was pretty sure it is a later release in an older box since it was molded in red, no biggie, it was cheap and complete in the cool box. Well, received it and started on it from the bottom up, then came the issue. I never noticed by the ebay pics that someone cut most of the rockers off. Now what? Easy enough to repair and get looking like the way the kit was because the rockers were squared off and did not roll under like they should. Now this adds to my dilemma, choices being: Replace body and build Repair and build Repair and correct it a bit and build I am sure I can get the plentiful 55 Corvette body and cut the rockers off to make it more correct. They actually roll under as they should.
  3. A little silver added to the body would make it look really sweet and bring it all together. Maybe something like this with Red and Silver?
  4. Cool kit but the engine is more of a Chevy big block, not a 428. Now, swap the intake heads and valve covers and it would look more acceptable as a 428. (FYI) I'll have to watch this one since I have not started mine yet. Build on
  5. I bought a Monogram '58 Thunderbird (Special Interest Series) at the Henry Ford Museum gift shop.
  6. Ford started using that scoop in 1957 on the larger super duty trucks. It was used til at least 1971, maybe later. In the early years it was forward facing.
  7. As an FYI, for a stock Boss 429 the cross over tube for the upper radiator hose would not be there. That was something used on racing engines. See first pic for reference. The AMT instructions are pretty poor in my opinion. They show the distributor where the stock radiator hose connects and the coil where the distributor should be. See pic 2 for a stock locations
  8. I like the kit. Built it as a kid and when it came out with the same box art I built it again. It has its short comings and some fit issues but with patience builds up to a good looking kit
  9. Thread from the dead..... I have the Ranchero and 59 Retractable kits unbuilt. I had the Corvette but it was built badly ans suffered a 4th of July accident. Now I must look up what kits came under the Advent name.
  10. SWEET! And it has a Hemi!
  11. I'd say it came out pretty good!
  12. Finally got my hands on one of these!!!
  13. Thanks.. I was looking at Scenes Unlimited's site and that is where the confusion set in
  14. Good looking rig!
  15. Yes, tough one but yours came out very well. Love the color on it
  16. Recently got into the big trucks and have a dilemma. I have the SD/DD Freightliner and Lowboy trailer. Question is: the tires in my lowboy are the same as my Freightliner. On Bills72sj's build of the same combo he stated the tires on the trailer were from the kit. Are the incorrect tires in my kit? If I was to look for resin/rubber replacements for a more correct tire, what should I look for? I am totally new to the trucks and a little guidance is needed. Thanks Pic is a comparison of my tires on hand. From left to right: Revell W900, Moebius Tire set, Loyboy/Freightliner tire and Lindberg Dodge L-700. All about the same with the Lindberg being slightly shorter than the Moebius and AMT. Revell being the tallest.
  17. Thanks! Interesting that the tires with my current lowboy kit are the same as my truck. Guess I will be searching out some tires.
  18. Those cats!!! My cat likes to take tires from me, so I get it. So there are 2 front dual drive axles... Got it. My build has a stretched frame also, I used the rear frame from the DD and the front frame from the SD which made it much easier for me. Okay, one more question.... what did those smaller wheel and tires come from? My first thought was the Dodge L700, but they are only a little bit shorter. Yours looks more correct IMO. Thanks!
  19. Or the kit shown was not in the package.... The Mustang II comes to mind, the box build is an MPC, but the kit was the AMT.
