  1. Taking a break from other builds and started messing around with this one. 10 dollar kit from Ollie's. Old MPC 72 GTO..I've heard that nothing fits and ..yep..they are right. Did some research on it. Come to find out it shares like at least 75% of the kit with the mpc 67 gto kit ( recent " weekend warrior" release) Except for the body and interior tub..it's practicaly the same parts trees between the two. Only thing with this particular issue is it does not have all the cool optional parts from earlier issues like the roll bar, blower and headers..not to mention the drag strip " Christmas tree" Dio accessory . Which I wish this had! I'd rather build it as the drag version. But..This kit is stock only pretty much. Only options are vector mags and stripe decals. You can tell how the trees were cut into sections that those options were originally molded but purposely deleted by cutting them out by hand when this reissue was made. Anyway , the chassis used in this is the 67 gto one and it a little long and the wheelbase is definitely off. It doesn't sit well in the interior tub and body and shifts around too much. But it can be fixed with some problem solving skills. Since I build junk parts and gluebombs, it's something I like..keeps my mind sharpened. So I'm gonna show how to build this and fix the fit problems. It's actually easy. Follow along as I turn this into something buildable .
  2. I'm gonna be building one as well. I've got all three of the AMT kits and one of those MRC gas stations , Texaco version, to put it all in. I'll be watching your progress.
  3. I want to convert the revell 69 Nova into a 73 model. Are there any resin bumpers/ grilles to use or even a resin body avaliable ? Or is this a scratch build project? Thanks.
  4. Built this 1/25th scale slot car just to do something different. Another member in my model club builds a bunch of them and races at the track in the local hobby shop. Inspired me to build one. So , knowing absolutely nothing about this stuff..I jumped right in and bought a H&R racing adjustable slot chassis with big n littles silicone tires on slot mag wheels. Dug through my junk bodies and parts box and pieced together a AMT 70 montie carlo. Used the interior from the AMT 70 Chevelle because the tub is shallow and allows the slot chassis to fit better. I kicked it up in the rear for a 70s era feel. The side pipes hide the chassis pretty good.. Used the yenko decals from the revell Camaro and a scratch built cowl hood made by a club member who passed away last year. Added a driver figure from the 75 dodge dart kit. I run this on occasion but not a whole lot. But it was different and fun to build. Even cooler to see it move on the track..
  5. Nice! Banzai!!!!
  6. Doesn't revell own the monogram line? It would appear they obtained permission to copy them in a smaller scale. Or is it even considered a " copy" since these are not in the original 1/16th scale? I wonder if round 2 bought/ obtained the Aurora line designs from the recent revell bankruptcy situation.. Would be interesting to know the story on this one.
  7. Nice..I knew those looked familiar somehow. just scaled down to 1/25..It will only make sense for them to eventually release the building display to put all three kits in.. plan on getting these soon..hopefully they will make new tool expansions to these series of garage diorama kits.
  8. Not sure on color yet. But I did get it primered. Then I took a break to let the primer surfacer dry real good and scratch built a painter figure for my shop crew mainly just for this shot.
  9. Decided to raise the front suspension a little for the desired gasser rake. Drilled holes on the very bottom of the lower A arms and through the bottom of the engine oil pan..I like using the old style metal axels when I can since they give a lot of strength to the wheels. Don't like wheels breaking off..I also added some "spacers" to the wheel backs, cut from a long post wheel back, to bring the wheels out and for added strength. Filled in the unused axel holes in the frame with evergreen rod.
  10. Using the optional Cadillac engine. Stripped the chrome off the optional blower setup and opened up the injector holes since there is no blower hat in this kit. Also found a pair of 49 stock steelie rims for up front to replace the 40 Ford rims I was using in the mock-up.
  11. Note that the optional custom grille cove/ rolled bumper section was already glued into the body. But the uppersection was broke off.. I had a stock hood that leaves the center notch to deal with..after looking at reference pics of the real cars , I noticed guys were removing the center grille bar/ bullet. So I did the same to make things work between the stock and custom parts. The moon tank fits in the middle to complete the look.
  12. Sanded off the black paint and had to rescribe the door lines. Member rodent sent me the red glass and hood scoupe. Thanks! Mocked up the optional roll cage and bucket seats inside.
  13. Since the molded in taillights had been sanded off, I needed something in the back since it looked soo blank..I decided to add in the custom taillight housings from the 50 convertible kit..they are a little too long , so I cut the solid ends off to shorten them down closer to the body. The taillights will be fitted into the now hollowed openings..it was at this point I decided to stay with as many 49/50 kit specific parts as possible. I set the build in my garage Dio for fun showing my mini crew hard at work on it..
  14. Got the nice parts roof fitted and glued back on. Had a stock hood with a hole already rough cut in it. This body already had the rear wheel openings cut out ..Soo made sense to build it as a gasser. Mocked up the basic parts to check the stance .
  15. Haven't posted much here in a while. Figured I share a build currently on my desk. Most , if not all, of my builds are built from gluebombs , parts box and castoff " junk" . This one is no exception..Started out with a collection of various 49 / 50 Ford kit parts in a box just missing a body .Recently found a really rough 49 sedan body shell in a box of freebies at a club meeting. The roof was cut off and had a lot of body detail sanded off..but..I had a 49 roof in my parts along with interior bucket and chassis to get the build going. Since I'm not one to waste parts, I started working on salvaging this " junk". Not shown is the partial hood sides and reversed 57 roof that was glued on this body. Those came off pretty easy.
  16. Really? wow. I looked at a few of the castings a vendor was selling at a show. I was able to back engineer how you made it and made my own from a monogram 57 nomad body. I changed the rear mounted radiator concept in mine and used the cutdown radiator from a old revell beatnik bandit kit.
  17. Wow. Looks just like how I remember them 25 plus years ago. What did you use for reference? Did you work there and build it from memory? Very nice work on historical accuracy. early 90s for sure. somewhere late 92-93 it looks.
  18. Sweet! I built the 57 posted in here. Guy in my model club just built one from the recent new 57 Ford wagon kit.
  19. Thanks! It was a fun build. Built it a few months ago, but one of my favorites.
  20. Sure. I used a 41 plymouth chassis plate. I cut off the front crossmember forward to shorten it down and replaced it with a piece of sprue tubing then built the 37 Ford front axle off of it. Rear end and suspension is from the 32 Ford kit.
  21. Been a while since i posted any builds on here, so I figure I'd post this one I built recently. Based on a real car. Thought it was pretty cool so I had to build it. Although a resin body is available, this is built from a Monogram 57 Nomad instead. I cut the body up and reorganized it into this. Sits on a shortened AMT 41 plymouth frame with rear end suspension assembly from a Revell 32 ford kit and the front suspension from a Monogram 37 ford kit, 36 Ford front seat / roll bar, engine is the 57 kit small block, rest is various parts box stuff.. Enjoy guys.
  22. That is the most detailed Carter AFB Carbuerator I have seen in this scale. What kit is it from?
  23. Just finished up a great trade with Paul Gardner / Gardnerpag44. Thank You!
  24. Excellent work! One of my favorite Chevelle kits. I also convert them from flip nose back to stock. Most of the time I just fill in the hood with flat sheet to make it a Malibu standard hood. looks like you used a Revell 66 wagon for the donor and the Monogram 70 Chevelle for the wheels/ tires. Last one I built, I used the engine bay from a monogram 64 GTO and the front frame/suspension clip from the Lindberg 66 Chevelle to convert the front back to stock.
