I decided to use Thunderbolt traction bars, but they didn't fit. So I made a similar set.

Since this is not a "gasser" that's all jacked up, the ride height will have to be adjusted. The Comet rear axle and springs had way too much arch, and the axle housing didn't really look like a 9-inch. So, I used the axle and springs from the doner Fairlane kit.

The tiny trans tunnel needed to be opened up to accommodate the C-6 Trans. Another challenge!

The assembled frame.........
-
The rear frame rails were also tubular, and these were molded into the floor plan. So I ground then out and went about making a square tube rear frame to match the rest. I also lengthened the rear floor pan. The rear rails were a bit of a challenge!

Very cool!!! Any chance I can buy a set of those decals? -
Thx Michael! The brief AWB era produced some wild cars.

Well I wish I could take credit for the wheel openings, but this is a resin. This kit donated it's interior, chassis and a few odd n ends. Other than being too short in the front, the Comet chassis fit perfectly. I decided to cobble up a square chassis to replace the incorrect round tube one.

I've pushed everything else aside for my latest obsession, building this unique 1966 Fairlane AWB. It will be loosely based on the rather obscure Prestone Silencer car. A Hilborn injected Cammer will provide the power. An AMT Fairlane GT and a Kings Comet will donate to the cause.

I visited the Simone Museum last summer, saw some serious hardware.

I just scored another Mav, thinking of doing the Ford Drag Team.

Thx! -
I'm shopping for a C-600 to build another Ford Drag Team hauler. The Pepsi truck has the correct wheelbase. Does anyone know if these kits are all the same wheelbase?

fairlane1320 replied to mredjr's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
It's a Crane Cams decal, Les Ritchey had a yellow one on his silver Mustang. I'd be interested in a set of those decals too. Thx Ron -
It's an easy swap, very little mods needed. I wouldn't call that sleeper integral, it's an add-on. http://public.fotki.com/fordflashback/125-ford-drag-team-1/1969-c600-drag-team/
