Today is our 50th Anniversary! Hard to believe it's been that long that she has put up with this big kid! LOL
-
Spent over 4 hours on the phone trying to cancel our direct TV and att internet! Kept getting transferred to the retention department and put on hold only to be hung up on! Will try again today! Maybe I can get someone that speaks and understands English this time!

Feels strange sitting here with bare walls where my models once sat on shelves, empty closet and boxes stacked everywhere! Was supposed to move this weekend so we have most of our stuff packed (still packing today) just my wife and myself and she still cant lift anything heavy because of her fecent pacemaker battery replacement and valve replacement. The carpet guys are running behind so the apartment in the 55+ community we are moving to isn't going to be ready until Monday or Tuesday and we have no help available to move until next Saturday! All our boys working or watching their kids while spouses work and the older grandkids are just too plain lazy these days always on the electronics playing games all night and sleeping all day!!! So goes life I guess!LOL

In 1974 bought a 1965 Dodge Polara off the back lot of the Dodge Dealer in Portage Wi. for 150 dollars! Used my Hofner Bass Guitar for collateral until payday for him to hold it! It had a 440 4 barrel with a 4speed and posi rear. The mechanic that put the battery in the day I picked it up said they had pulled the Hemi that it came with and replaced it with the 440 out of a 1970 Challenger which is where they put the Hemi! The original paperwork that they had along with the service records show it was special ordered by the Sauk County Wi. Police Department! Wish I had never traded it off! Was great dusting off Camaros and Mustangs from the stoplight in a granny car!LOL

The ‘other’ mag is stopping publication

I'm sure my youngest sons would have stayed in the hobby (one has come back to it a couple years ago) if they would have been producing kits of the cars they were driving and their friends had! "Ricer" kits as so many call them were few and far between and even just late model cars like many had for their first cars that they would dress up were non existent! Many of the younger builders I know wish someone would put out cars subjects from the era of Johan! -
Quitting the Hobby

In my case I am down sizing because we will probably be moving very soon as our neighborhood has become unsafe. Vandalism, break ins has gone way up and can't sit outside without that skunky smell saturating the area! Had people on the 4th tossing quarter sticks in peoples yards and when they came out to complain they were being beat up by a bunch of punks, even on man's wife who was dragged through her yard by her hair! Will be going top a 55+ housing complex in a small town where my son lives. Still two bedroom but less storage space. At least I can drive a few blocks to his house and use his garage for any paint work. -
Quitting the Hobby

Hope you can find a little peace in the future and something else that will help you deal with this rapidly changing world! I myself am cutting back. Trying to get my son to take most of the car models off my hands save a few that will be replicas of cars I once owned. Going to concentrate on the semi trucks I have and when they are done I will too retire from model building , if I'm still here!LOL Have a 1:1 project tat I'm playing with but not going to go for a complete restoration on her, just something from the 60's to cruise around in occasionally. -
I thought of that but the lip is double thickness and I'm afraid it will flare the well out if I try it. Going to use some small relief cuts and wood block and big hammer. Don't need much bareley touches the side wall on the speed bumps in the street. Also will be replacing rear springs which are very weak and new shocks. If that result isn't satisfactory then I will go to air shocks.

Platelets still going up! 127 from yesterdays blood work!
-
Got my AMT Double Header Kit today that I ordered through Amazon (shipped by Amazon too) and was shocked that all they did was stick labels on the shrink wrap and ship it!!! Box was all beat to h e double hockey sticks but luckily nothing inside was damaged!! Just find it inconceivable that they would do that!!!

First song I remember of his was Uneasy Rider.

The improvements since the valve procedure are stunning! Never realized how poor her coloring had become over time, she actually has ankles now! Haven't seen her legs this small in YEARS! She can actually walk the length of the house without being out of breath! She walked out and back to see our son's garden Saturday and wasn't short of breath! Appears COPD wasn't the main cause of her breathing issues it was her heart! Can't wait to see how things improve after she starts cardiac rehab in a week or so!!!
-
Her platelet number was at 73 which is still quite low but was up from the night before so they released her with blood counts to be done every few days. Friday her count was up to 91 so it seems that she is slowly adjusting to the new valve they implanted. Next blood test is tomorrow.
-
No go again yesterday and looks no joy for today either until they can get her platelets up.
-
About to head north again. Hopefully today will be going home day! Her blood cultures came back negative and he platelets are going up. One more scan of chest and arms to make sure there are no clots and she should be ready to rock!

Wife just came home from the hospital with a new hip
OldTrucker replied to Can-Con's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Just follow the doctors instructions and get good physical therapy and it will amaze her how great she feels and how much more she can do! Have had both of mine done. -
Thanks guys. She spiked a temp (low grade) last night and this morning and her platelet count was down so they kept her another night and are running a blood culture test just to be sure and to get her count back up.. Poor wife has so many scars she looks like a road map.

Hopefully the last and the wife can come home. She went up to Northwestern Hospital Tuesday morning for a pre-op dental exam and clearance and the Cardiac surgeon decided to admit he that day so they could get her INR where they wanted it nd to get excess water weight off before her Tricuspid valve replacement. They used a new procedure for the replacement that was less invasive and worked sort of like when they place a stent. While this procedure has FDA clearance for an aortic valve replacement it has not been cleared for this particular valve yet but under the order signed by President Trump they were able to use it on her because she is such a high risk for conventional heart surgery being this is her fourth one and having COPD. They have done 15 in this country so far and she was the first at Northwestern Hospital. Because she is in a study the cost of the device and surgery and all the tests and appointments are covered. Only cost to our insurance are the two days stay prior and the stay in the step down unit after she was moved from CCU. I cannot remember last when her legs were this skinny! First night they took off over 6 pounds of water weight! Everything seems to be going just great although she had to have a second procedure right after because the replacement valve damaged a pacemeker lead so they had to replace it but the plus she got a new generator a year and a half early as the old one only had about 18 months left on it.
