Post retirement modeling
jeffdeoranut replied to misterNNL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
retirement for me has been strange...in 2014 I suffered a stroke at the age of 52 losing the use of my left hand(of course im lefthanded) and was able to walk short distances with a cane. before this I completed 3-5 models per year-usually a wild custom with lots of detail and scratchbuilding. about 10-15 hrs a week. since then I have built exactly one-not much added detail but did involve converting a vw beetle into a pick up-95 % of the work done with one hand. next, 3 months of therapy-could walk without cane but could barely use my left hand. im a stubborn sob so in spring of 2015 with help from my son and a friend I built a 25 x 25 shop, landscaped the yard, built a deck around a tree in the back, planted trees, extended and graveled driveway, built a 6' x 8' entertainment unit-can hold about 75 builts, bought a 40 chevy truck rat rod to piddle with, bought a welder and forced my lefthand to work and lost the cane. I hike a lot now-love being in the woods and fish a lot but im not building any models. im about 2/3 done with a 6 axle stretched can do wrecker but have not touched it for 2 years. ive acquired several holy grail kits-2 of which are about 1/2 done. I don't know why but im just not motivated to build much which is weird because now I have time. between my lady friend and myself there are 9 grandkids n one otw. my first grandson is 2 months old-im hoping that I live long enough to interest him in models but have began selling some of the stash as no family member builds models. I have many project ideas floating around in my head but am doing nothing-if any of yall have a tip on how I can motivate myself-let me know, please. -

it has been many, many years but iirc I saw the kit at Wal-Mart but my memory isn't reliable so who knows? probably me remembering wrong but what I remember was like kinda the first pic but without the hood and multiple engines. -

Need help narrowing a model
jeffdeoranut replied to TristanCollie's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree with all of the above posts. if I were doing this, first I would google outline drawing of c7 vet and also side and top views if possible of 1 to 1 and model-then play around in a drawing app and something like photoshop. as I don't have photoshop I use office. I might even print out some of the outline drawings and cut them to see some of what has to be done. during the process I would spend significant time just looking at the model body I have and THINKING. good luck and post in progress pics if you tackle it. -
man, I really like this...did you consider dropping her in da weeds? those 59 caddy wheels are a great fit.

aagh, the good ole days. I had a black/gold 83 ta with the crossfire engine, w? suspension pkg, and 6 way adj drivers seat, not fast but the girls liked the sorta "bandit" car then a 86 z-28 with 305 carbed engine-it was a real turd-I removed all the smog BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, put on a holley carb, true duals-no cat-still a turd so in went a 350. in 87 when gm offered 3rd gen Camaros as convertibles I had to have one but couldn't afford it so out came the sawsall and with a junkyard convertible frame made my own. ended up having to sell it to get an engine for wife's car, but then later got a steal of a deal on a black 92 25th anniversary heritage edition z convertible with a 350 tpi-that car RIPPED as many young lads in their mustangs found out. lost the car as part of a messy divorce(wifey's and cars) so fast forward to 2015-finally had the means to go find another 92 like I had-NONE were for sale in us-did find a ta similiarly equipped but it was metallic orange so I passed-still looking for a z...

Recommended Handle for #11 blades
jeffdeoranut replied to Bernard Kron's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
this could go in the tips section but im putting it here...I tape a 2" or so piece of straight sprue to my blade handles to stop rolling. also as ive gotten older and have limited use of left hand I wrap the tape 3 or 4 times creating a bigger/softer gripping area.
