I finished the engine today, now the rest of the assembly can start.

I haven't tried to upload images since they changed....again, but it looks more confusing than the last time they changed things! And all that flash advertising gives my computer[which is old and sucks!]fits! I'll try it when I have something new to add,if it don't work I'm kicking this thing right off the desk! Windows ME, what garbage!

Let me be the first to say that's beautiful! Done up in a not so common color, very, very clean and a great mix of parts! You did this simple kit justice!
-
I'd say you got the different shades of black just right, this is one beautiful Camaro!
-
Thanks for the comments everyone! Here's where I'm at as of today. I got a little done on the interior, body stripe decals on and windows installed. Thanks for looking!
-
Got the body polished and foiling all done, now I'll start work on the chassis and interior. Thanks for looking!
-
I chose Duplicolor Cardinal Red for the paint, I need to polish after it cures good. Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the interest in this build Rudy. I haven't decided on a color as of yet, I will have to soon though before it gets to cold in the garage to paint! MPC originally kitted the '70 Cyclone, then changed the tool to a nascar. I wish Revell would kit a new one based on their '70 Torino tooling. And yes, these Mercury's are really scarce in the 1:1 world, maybe they didn't sell well back in the day.

Last year, I built 2 Pontiacs and a few Dodges and Chevys. Now it's Ford Motor Company's turn! This Comet was started and painted with Model Master Italian Red lacquer, and for whatever reason it didn't see eye to eye with the Duplicolor primer, made me mad so back in it's box it went. I was going through my stuff the other night trying to decide what to do next, pulled this back out and stripped the paint with 91% isopropyl alcohol. It really cleaned up nice! Now this body has one major flaw, there is supposed to be a smaller crease line continuing from the larger crease on the rear quarter across the door and front fender. How did AMT miss this? It was there on their annuals from 1966 and '67! How am I going to fix this? Here's what I did. I masked the area where it was supposed to be and built it up with primer, smoothed away the rough edges and the primed the body. What a difference this made ! Take a look and see what you think. I'm thinking about using these Torque Thrust wheels, I never really liked a hubcap that looked like a chrome reversed wheel. Thanks for looking!

This is the best looking 1/25 scale Nomad I have ever seen! It looks like a work of art even in an unfinished state! You know when you get this finished, Revell will probably do it in kit form!
-
That tail panel is very tough to BMF! I used a fine black sharpie marker around the tail light on mine. Your build looks very nice!
-
Very nice Merc! Did you clear coat it, or does it dry with that shine?

I'll just wait it out on this one, maybe a stock roofed resin body is in the future, or maybe Revell will come out with a stock roofed rendition years from now. I've got more than enough kits to keep me busy. I may buy this kit after I see a few built up! And yes, I do have the chopped Merc kit in my inventory waiting for it's day in the sun! Maybe it's time to broaden my horizon! -

It looks like this thread turned into a "bash the factory stock builder and what they want" thread! Okay, I get it, were a dying breed and we're not profitable anymore. -
I'll be all over the '61 Ford when it hits the shelves, I'll need a couple of those! I wonder if they still have the tooling for the '61 Ford Sunliner convertible? This was the first glue kit I ever done as a kid back in 1969, I've never seen it since! And that first one is long gone now!
-
Darin, I like where this is going! I'm one who could never have enough tri-fives in my collection! I'd like to also see a new '57 Nomad based on this tooling along with a '57 convertible and a proper '56 Belair hardtop. I remember seeing a magazine a long time ago with the Hollingsworth Nomad featured, as I recall it had the later smooth-top Vette FI plenum, chrome radiator core support, radiator splash pan, and I think [not 100%] that the inner fender wells were chromed as well!

I'm with you Ed! I've been wanting to do a stock '48 coupe forever, the old complicated IMC/Testors kit doesn't cut it for me! I hope they come out with the un-chopped version in the future! -
This is exactly how I prep my parts also. In addition, I have some skewers with alligator clips on the ends of them. Looking forward to your build, keep us posted!

Thanks Tom! I just used some 3M polish followed by some Turtle Wax, nothing to aggressive. Sorry, I've already put the wheels to use, I swapped them with an older build snap '57 that's black, It's going to be disassembled and get the same treatment as this one. Those wheels look great on a black car.
-
Thanks Jason. I swapped the wheels with an older issue that had the wide whitwalls and stock hubcaps.

I've been kind of lazy lately and needed something easy to do and maybe it would get me motivated again! I bought this cheap at Michaels with a 50% off coupon beings they didn't really have anything else I needed on the shelf. It's a very low parts count snap kit, but has one of the best looking bodies and interior out of the bunch, so I thought I'd throw a little foil and paint detail at it. I polished the red plastic body, painted the interior red and paint detailed the one piece molded detail chassis. I added turn signal and gear shift stalks to the column, parts box rear view mirror. Thanks for looking !

I really like this! I build mostly factory stock, But I want to do a junior stock '57 much on the same order as you have done. Very nice work!
-
Very neat and clean! I love this kit, everything goes together with ease, and you don't have to spend days foiling it! Beautiful!
-
It looks like the designers of this one ripped off a little from GM,Ford,Chrysler and Packard!
-
Thanks for the comments guys! The paint was Testors Gloss Bright Red enamel out of the can, a paint I swore I would never use again, but it looks so close to the factory Matador Red from '57. It does have an orange tint to it, kind of a red/orange cross.
