1. Looking great! Is that the recent tool of the AMT kit?
2. Great looking restoration Ron! I love those big GM cars from 1960. That before picture looks like one of those paint jobs I would have been proud of when I was 8 years old!
3. Thanks Bud! The trim issue was one of my gripes with this kit, along with the emblem in the grill bar thats a tad to big. Other than that, this is a well proportion body.
4. I just finished a MPC '67 GTO, It can be made to look presentable, but it will take a lot of work. The holes for the axles both front and back are not positioned at all in the right locations, I filled them and re-drilled in the right location as compared to photos of a 1:1. The engine looks to be under-scale, I just built it out of the box with no other detailing. The door lines need to be scribed deeper as they would probably be lost under a couple coats of paint. The best thing you could do is mock everything up before painting to get it the way you want. At any rate I had a lot of fun restoring this worn out and compromised old tool kit back to it's former glory!
5. Thanks Bill! The great AMT '57 debate lives on! I used to prefer the new tool over old, but now I,m not so sure! There is just something about the old "Trophy kit" that just looks right. One thing I didn't like about the newer tool '57 is the too thick side trim and the elongated shape of the front wheel opening.
6. It's been years since I've built the old tool AMT '57 Chevy, so I thought I would try one now since my skills have improved over the years, This one is painted with Duplicolor silver and polished out. I've ordered a Model Car Garage PE detail kit for it since I don't really like the decal for the quarter panel trim. Interior will be red and black. Thanks for looking, questions and comments welcome!
7. Thanks for starting this tutorial Bill, even a long time modeler can learn a lot here! I'll be watching with great interest when you attack the interior tub, my 48 year old fingers get real clumsy when I try to foil a door panel in a tub! Thanks again for posting your work!

This is just the style of building I love seeing! Carefully and cleanly built with attention to detail. I like your choice of color. Well done!

'64 GTO

Very nice and well detailed build! I have one of the pre-painted GTO's in red that I've yet to build, looks like it goes together real nice! I like the correct wheel covers you've added also!
10. Wow, I build strictly factory stock, now you got me wanting to build a Gasser! That is just gorgeous!
11. I take it these are translated names ?
12. It's a blue metallic paint, I forgot to add that I polished and cleared it.
13. Great looking GTX! Very, very clean and well thought out!
14. It's close to '67 Pontiac Tyrol Blue, might be a shade darker. http://ultimategto.com/1967/67_00266_1.jpg
15. Sorry Lee, I should have told that in the original post. It's Duplicolor Truck, Van and Suv 11oz can T401 Bahama Blue UPC # 26916 90401.
16. Thanks for all the kind words guys! As Harry stated, it's automotive touch-up paint, it is a lacquer and is very easy to use. It's very forgiving and dries quick and polishes up quite nice. I purchased mine at O'Reilly auto parts, I don't know if they are in your area or not.
17. Lee, to do a pinstripe like this I masked it off with some Pactra thin line masking tape, brushed over it with Testors clear lacquer to seal the tape to keep the white paint from bleeding under the masking, the brushed Testors white paint over the mask.
18. Just put the finishing touches on this GTO. Painted with Duplicolor, holes for axles filled and re-drilled to position the wheels in the wheelwells correctly. All panel lines were scribed deeper, added missing lines on the cowl that separate fenders. Added rear view mirror from Monogram '64 GTO. No wiring or any extras under the hood, just built the engine out of the box. Thanks for looking!
19. Well Brian, I guess great minds think alike!
20. Thanks for the positive feedback everyone! Bob, the roof is a separate piece. I had started this kit about 12yrs ago, glued on the roof and tried to blend and didn't like the results so I just shelved it. Was going through some older stuff so I pulled it out and tried again, beings I've learned a lot due to this forum and other sources. Used styrene to fill the gaps, lots of putty and sanding until I got done to the best of my abilities! Used strip styrene to continue the drip moulding around the A-pillars as it was on the 1:1's. It may not win any contests, but I sure had fun with it! I could have ordered a Missing Link body, [ it looks like a very nice body by the way] but I learned a lot more by doing this!
21. I just finished my GTO today. Modifications include scribing in panel lines around the cowl area, adding the missing trunk lock, fixing wheelbase so wheels were in the right place in wheelwells. Painted with Duplicolor, foiled and pinstripe added. I used the Crager S/S wheels from the '65 Chevelle wagon because they are just a natural on a GTO. Take a look and see what you think! Thanks for looking!
22. Here's where I'm at today with this build, body and interior are finished, working on the engine now. Thanks for looking, questions and comments always welcome!
23. I going with a blue interior, painted with same paint as the body. I also painted the molded in details of the simple chassis. I wanted this Goat to have pinstripes, I laid it out with Tamiya thin masking tape and went over it with a Sharpie marker. Next I'll foil and detail the interior. Thanks for looking!
24. Very nice looking truck! My last work truck was an '88! You did a great job saving this one!
25. Thanks for the comment Hans! Started on the interior today. AMT liked to use the same tub back then weather it was a convertible or hardtop. I'm not going to try and correct that though, just want to make it more presentable. There were no door panel lines, so I added some styrene 1/2 round to represent the welting around the door opening. I also added strip styrene for the chrome trim along the top of the door. Thanks for looking!
