  1. 600 hp vs. 450 for the Beaver and a much higher gross weight in their original configurations. The Norseman is an impressive beast in all of it's fabric covered, oil slobbering glory! Beaver trivia: the odd shape of the cabin doors is to allow a 55 gallon drum to be loaded either standing upright or laid on it's side. Norseman trivia: big band leader Glenn Miller dissapeared in a us military Norseman in WWII The Beaver and Norseman were designed for a single purpose of hauling freight into the bush as economically as possible. Simple and rugged were the top priorities.
  2. It is an amazing aircraft. Hard to believe that it remained the largest aircraft flown until just recently. Although beautiful, I think that thing would have been an operational disaster based on delamination and flamability issues. the big Boeing boats proved very durable. Although there were accidents, they operated continuously throughout the war moving high priority passengers and cargo.
  3. Thanks Snake! They are a quick build as they are simplified to the point that there is no temptation to add a lot of detail. Nice self quarantine projects.
  4. Once again inspired by PatW, some flying boats from the collection: Glencoe Martin M-130 Clipper Airfix Boeing B-314 Clipper 1/48 Glencoe Grumman Duck Minicraft HK-1 "Spruce Goose" Revell "Box Scale" Martin Mariner and Seamaster 1/72 Academy PBY-5A Catalina "Black Cat" Hasegawa 1/72 Shinmeiwa PS-1 Matchbox 1/72 Supermarine Stranraer, How could the same folks that designed the Spitfire ever conceived of this beast?
  5. Inspired by PatW I have pulled some models from the display case to share here: Airfix 1/72 Beaver and Matchbox Norseman DeHavilland family: Beaver, Otter and Twin Otter Cessna 172s: 1/72 and 1/48 Matchbox 1/72 Dornier Do.28 converted to float plane 1/72 Ju-52 Testors 1/48 Ryan STM 1/72 Airfix Supermarine S.6b - ancestor of the Spitfire 1/32 Matchbox Tiger Moth - terrible kit to build!
  6. The air cleaner interference with the hood is the only issue that I recall with the one I built years ago.
  7. They were 1/24 sap kits made by a company in Wisconsin, USA. They are very basic, no windows or interior. They also made a 6 foot wingspan version in foam that was hung in liquour stores. The decals promoted Canadian Club or Canadian Mist whiskey. Shown is the Airfix 1/72 kit (8" wingspan) with a the 1/24th version (24" winspan) with added interior details. Note that the rivets on the 1/72 model are larger Also, the raised ribs on the foreward portion of the Airfix floats should not be there. In reality, this is where the propeller warning stripes on the 1:1 would be located. Hobbycraft also makes a decent 1/48th scale beaver which is a decent build if I recall.
  8. Nice model! BTW: the real car shown is a '71...or at least it has a '71 grill and turn signals.
  9. I like it? Did one with similar attitude in 1/35th scale!
  10. Here is a link to my scratch built 5th wheel race car trailer:Ford Dually with race car trailer
  11. sweet interior!
  12. No problem, use a fresh (sharp) #11 Exacto blade and cut with the tip to allow closely following the inner diameter of the tire bead and these can be removed cleanly. Tedious but do-able! Great way to practice your plastic surgical skills?
  13. Looking Great!!! Glad to see you back on this one!
