Has anybody heard of?
iamsuperdan replied to MarkJ's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I really like the Santa Cruz. It's the sort of truck most people need. Most people driving trucks don't actually need a half ton or bigger. The Santa Cruz and other similar sized trucks will do most of what the typically truck driver wants: carries a few people, can pick stuff up at Home Depot or the garden center, can take the bottles in for recycling, can carry the bikes or camping gear, maybe tow a small trailer. Yeah, there will be people adamant that they need the bigger trucks, but really...they don't. I know the Maverick very well, and it's a great little truck too. -
I tried the same thing a couple of years ago, with zero success. The arch in the roof was totally different on the two cabs I used, so lining things up was impossible. I've since just 3d printed a crewcab that lines up pretty closely with the dually boxes I have. I think with a little tweaking, I can reprint and get it perfect.

Season 5 of Stranger Things is due out in mid-late 2025. I would guess that Revell will wait to release these kits around the same time. As the hype machine for the new series starts to build, and excitement grows for the final season of the show, I suspect that is when Revell will start to announce and release these ST kits.

Tips for Repairing Broken Windshield Pillar
iamsuperdan replied to In2Carz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Good thing you still have the broken piece. If it was mine, and I wanted to keep it in original condition, I would glue the piece back in place, using the bare minimum of glue. The cracks would always be visible, but most probably wouldn't notice. -
Chevrolet to GMC conversion..
iamsuperdan replied to michaelbaskett's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
No, never got around to doing it. I have the files ready to go, just keep finding other things of interest. I will do so...eventually. -
Looks great! I like your wheel design; using the center caps with Tamiya-style pins. Excellent idea.

Just make this the box art! Although, it's missing both a moose and a Tim Hortons. -

AMT C1500 rcsb
iamsuperdan replied to Dhgfx4's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks great! And I love your real one. I'm actually hunting for one of these for my daughter. But they're all either rusted out junk or they want an arm and a leg. Ugh -
Particularly happy that one of the perks of working at a car dealership is that I get staff labour rates in the shop, and staff pricing on parts. The alternator packed it in on the old Tahoe. As the boy needs it to get back and forth to university, I had to get it in to the shop for a quick fix, instead of waiting until the weekend when I could get around to fixing it. My cost of installing a new and upgraded alternator is less than the retail cost of the factory one before labour. Not bad at all.

True. And they actually address Ray's smoking habit in the new movie!

Totally agree on Charger. Why go with the RT over the SRT or Hellcat versions? As for Bronco, the 4dr is definitely more popular. In fact, here are the stats for 2023 model year. Outer Banks hits that sweet spot between features and pricing. The top 6 selling models are all 4 doors. And 4 door models made up 86.5% of all Bronco sales in 2023. So AMT's decision to do the 2dr first still seems odd to me. I like it, I have a handful in my stash, and I'm sure I'll get a few more. But it still seems odd.

Outer Banks is definitely popular, but it's also the most bland. It would be like releasing the new Charger kit, but as the V6 SXT version. Yeah, it's popular, but it's just so...meh. There are so many possibilities for this Bronco platform that the OB is just a weird choice to me. Ah well, I'm sure it will still sell well.

Goodbye Hot Rod Magazine?
iamsuperdan replied to Rockford's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I still prefer print over digital. 100%. In fact, of the mags I used to subscribe to that went pure digital, I didn't bother renewing any of them. I'll go without instead of using a screen. I have enough screen time at work, I don't need it in my personal time. -
Went and saw Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire last night. Was pretty good. Not as good as the last one (Afterlife) but still a fun watch. Story is a little cliché, so I think it's totally time to hang up the proton packs. The Marvel franchise went the same way. After Endgame, every Marvel movie has been the same thing rehashed: a massive threat is...well...threatening to end life as we know it, cue the heroes to save the day. THe movies are still okay, but just not as interesting now. Same for Ghostbusters. At least with Afterlife, it was an interesting storyline, with the new characters and whatnot. Frozen Empire is good, but just not as interesting. Makes me want to build my Ecto-1 though.

Goodbye Hot Rod Magazine?
iamsuperdan replied to Rockford's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Can't say that I'm surprised. Magazines in general are just disappearing. And for Hot Rod, the generations that are into that kind of car are slowly dying off, so circulation numbers are dropping, which has to be the biggest factor in the downfall. Lower circulation numbers mean fewer eyes on the magazine, which means advertisers will be looking for something else to give them a better bang for their buck. Personally, I only receive two magazines now; Guitar World and Model Cars Magazine. Both seem to be doing just fine.
