I know, but it's still a ridiculously heavy car. The Ford MachE GT is under 5000lb, and the Mach E Premium is only 4800lb. That's 1000lb lighter. The Tesla Model S Plaid is roughly 1000lb lighter, at about 4750lb Heck, my F-150 Lightning is only 800lb heavier. Extra weight makes any vehicle slower, use more fuel/charge, and makes it handle worse. There's no reason why this car should be that heavy. It's a moot point though, as most people looking to buy a Dodge will go for the gas engine.

Well over 100 years old and served in both world wars. And hasn't been scrapped. VERY cool. -

It may not be "perfect" as you said, but I really like the colour you chose. And the darker "chrome" finish you put on the wheels are tires looks really good with the maroon paint. Now I'm thinking about using the maroon with the darker chrome on one of my builds. -
Took the pup to the lake yesterday morning. I'm not sure which she loves more. The playing in the snow, or the laying across the back seat of the truck with the seat heaters on during the drive home. Then took the fam to see Dune Part 2. The theatre has the fancy seats. Basically pods for you and one other person, with extra elbow room, power reclining functions, heating, a little area to hang your coat, a smaller table to put your popcorn and stuff. And you can flip up the center armrest if you wish. Totally worth the extra $2 over the normal seating.

I've said it before, but this thread irks me. The fact that it has twice as many posts and almost twice the views of the "what pleased you today" thread. I guess people find it easier to find things to complain about than to find things to be grateful for..

I'll give you a hint. This very thread is in the trade section.

WHATS GOING ON HERE?
iamsuperdan replied to CaddyDaddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I didn't say there wouldn't be a market. I said it wouldn't be a success. A stripped out basic truck would be such a small percentage of overall sales, it would make no sense to produce or market to the masses. We see it already. Just head down to your local dealership. Not even that, go online to any manufacturer's website. Now do the configurator, and build your basic zipper truck; knowing it will still have AC, bluetooth, power everything, etc. But build it as base as you can. Now use the locate feature and see what dealers have similar trucks in stock. There will be very few out there. Anyone can factory order that basic truck, but very few actually do. You can still buy a Jeep Wrangler with manual trans, no AC, no power features, no hard top. Now find one at a dealer. -
WHATS GOING ON HERE?

$100k pickups are the norm these days. Here at work, even our basic work-spec F150 is over $60k. CDN. Yeah, the rebates and incentives are coming back now, but it's still a lot of money. I miss the days of a cheap and basic truck, but you just know it would never be a success here in NA. Toyota recently showed a truck concept that was a seriously stripped down and basic thing. And they're going to build it. https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2025-toyota-imv-0-pickup-truck-first-drive-review-japan-mobility-show/ Super cheap, Asian markets only. People on news sites were all "bring it to North America!" Well let's see here. To sell that zipper truck here, Toyota would need to engineer it to meet crash, emissions, and safety standards That all costs money, and that's just to make the thing legal. Now to actually sell it to more than the fringe minority of vehicle purchasers, the truck would require: air conditioning bluetooth/Android Auto/Apple Carplay power windows power mirrors power locks touchscreens USB ports steering wheel controls remote starter (in most places) heated seats (in Canada, and many US states) smartphone connectivity apps Oh, and it would need to be built in North America. And there goes your inexpensive truck. Personally, I like my old Chevs. We have a 99 Tahoe LT and a 95 K1500 extended cab in our fleet. The Tahoe is still pretty loaded, but compared to modern trucks, is kind of basic. I really need to focus on getting the K!500 back on the road. -
So from yesterday noon-ish until early this morning, we got about 12 inches of snow. And it was windy, so there are literally 3ft drifts in places. Anyway, because she thinks it's funny, Luna needed to use the bathroom around midnight. We had ZERO snow yesterday morning. You can see the table on our deck just behind her right ear. That's about 7-8 inches of snow on it. Was bare yesterday morning. I ate lunch out there on Satuday and used the table!

They're still out there

It's sad, a couple of those even have the historical plates on them, so obviously someone cared at some point. Let me guess... Not for sale because the owner is going to restore them. -
Electric NASCAR
iamsuperdan replied to CaddyDaddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
. Nissan Leaf - 303 kg (668lb) Mach E battery - 485kg (1070lb) Tesla Model S - 625kg (1377lb) You need an EV truck or SUV to get batteries that "weigh in excess of 1800lb" and that's not what's being discussed here. The tech to go e-racing is very different than the tech in a road going ev. By necessity, an ev racecar will be very different than a road car. Just like how a NASCAR is very different than a road car. And because they don't have to worry about sealed battery packs or waterproofing, then foam extinguishers or chemical extinguishers would work. Maybe if NASCAR had the gonads to drive in the rain like every other race series out there... But I digress. Having said that, Formula E has been around for 10 years and has seen a number of big crashes. Not one fire. In fact, there's only been one fire in Formula E since its inception. Last October, a fire broke out in a garage during pre-season testing. It was in the garage of a battery supplier, that was doing some testing on a charging system. Needless to say, it failed the test. -

What interrupts your build time?
iamsuperdan replied to TopherMcGinnis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What interrupts my build time? Basically everything. I'm the fleet manager for a Ford dealership, so that takes up my days, Monday through Friday. We have a house, so there's always something. Whether mowing the lawn, yard work, shovelling snow, cleaning gutters, fishing ear rings out of sink drains, changing lightbulbs, or ay multitude of tasks required as a homeowner. We have cars. Currently 5 of them, so there's always something. Car wash, gas station, minor repairs, and sometimes fun stuff. We have kids. The boy is old enough that I don't need to worry about him. But of course as a parent, I still do. Daughter is still in high school, dances competitively, takes lessons, and teaches lessons, so that's like 5 days a week, so we're always driving her around. Plus I'm teaching her to drive, so soon she'll be driving herself around. I have a wife, so we need time together as well. We have a big dog that requires exercise. And with the boy in university, his evenings are full of studying and whatnot, and my wife and daughter aren't comfortable handling our dog (she's a strong puller) so I take her out in the evenings and on weekends. And I have other hobbies. I squeeze in bench time wherever I can. -
You couldn't make this stuff up...

Have followed that channel for some time, and it always makes me chuckle. Because I've seen half of this nonsense in person at the dealerships I've worked at. I remember one bozo in particular. I was a working for Porsche and sold a new 911 to a guy. He was a real piece of...work. We knew nothing, he was the expert of all things, and we should be thanking him for allowing us to be in his presence. Tried to go through the delivery process and walk him through the car and it's features. Well of course, he knows it all and why would we even try to explain things that a baby knows? Two days later, the car is towed in, and he's irate. Car won't start, you guys sold me a piece of junk. I'm suing. I'm telling everyone that Porsche is junk. I'm calling the bosses in Germany. I want my trade back. I want a full refund, plus you owe me some compensation for my troubles. Had a look at the car. "So umm...why didn't you put gas in it?" "What?" "You're out of gas. It's empty." "Impossible. The car should have a light or something." "Yeah, here's the fuel gauge and the bright light that comes on when it gets below 1/4 tank. And here's the message in the center of the instrument cluster about low fuel level and remaining range." It was hard not to smile while explaining that he needed to put fuel in the car. And he noticed that too. -

So do them tanks o' fuel. ? -
I don't know about that. I've lost all faith in eBay, and don't use them much any more. Two reasons. First, I sold a slot car to a guy in England. I packaged it up, shipped it out, provided tracking numbers. It showed as delivered. The guy said he never received it. Ebay said I need to refund him. I again showed the tracking number and the confirmation of delivery to the guy's address. Ebay said I need to refund him in full. Second, I purchased a couple of kits. They shipped. Tracking number said they arrived. I never received them. EBay said "too bad, so sad, they show as delivered." Similar cases, and somehow, I'm on the wrong side on the both sides. I used to use eBay at least once a month. Now I've used it maybe once or twice in the past 5 years. Maybe.
